Rating: Summary: Nope--I'm not dead! Review: A friend just called me about the reviews on Amazon.com. I was really surprised to read them--frankly I didn't think anyone had any interest in the Morigu books. Very cool to find out I was wrong.Yes, I am still a writer--though out in Hollywood now. I changed my last name to Leahy (my family's clan name) to honor my grandfather's last request. And, yes, I am that Mark Leahy that wrote for the D&D movie (though the story they used is not mine, I do have co-producer credit). I also wrote an original script called Beowulf. It was completely re-written for the film (starring Christopher Lambert) and doesn't bear any resemblence to what I wrote. I haven't even seen it myself, but I know some people who have and, uh-- let's just say it didn't quite work out... I've sold many more scripts and am working on others right now. But God only knows when one of the films made of my scripts will actually resemble what I wrote. As to the Morigu books--well, what can I tell you? The first one did well, the second not so well, and my editor did not support the novels and things got very strange. It didn't take a genuis to figure out it was pointless to continue with these particular people. So I did what any self-repecting young writer would do--I took off for Europe for a year and half and got into as much trouble as I possible could. Probably wasn't my smartest move. I have not written in prose for along time. But I have to say reading your remarks means a lot to me. Funnily enough I had just started my first novel in years, and was going to look into the possiblity of finishing the Morigu novels (there were to be at least two more). But I have not been in the prose world for a long time, so I have no idea if there are any puplishers interested in the Morigu novels. I will insist on one thing though--if and when I do write the rest of the books--New Covers! C'mon tell me that the cover of Morigu:The Desecration doesn't look like George Hamilton pretending to be Tarzan, while some bizarre guy with a Don King haircut looks on! I heard that at one fantasty convention it was voted the worst cover of the year. And, of course, everywhere I went, bookstores included, people had to point out how bloody awful the cover was. Ah this is long, sorry. I want to thank all of you who took the time to write in a review, expecially since most of you seemed to think I was dead. I'll make a deal with you--keep saying nice things about me, and I'll find a publisher to finish the Morigu novels. After all--I still want to know who wins in the end... P.S. The last prose work I published was in the anthology novel THIEVES' WORLD:AFTERMATH. The story was called CADE and yes, it's kinda brutal, but after all these years I still love it.
Rating: Summary: I'm addicted..... Review: Ever since the first time I read this book I have not been able to stop searching for its sequel. I'm very picky with sci-fi/fantasies...yet I've held onto this since the day I found it (and reread it countless times). I would love to find its sequel and will not stop looking/hoping. I've always enjoyed losing myself into a fantasy world and this was no exception. It's refreshing to find a book where your kept on your toes. Thank you Mark C. Perry for writing it. p.s..Any suggestions on where or how to get the second????
Rating: Summary: Tolkien, Jordan, Donalson and Perry Review: Having been an avid fantasy and sci-fi readers for over thirty years now, I have to say that Mr. Perrys "Morigu" series was fantastic. His sweeping global vison reminds me of Robert Jordan, his struggling hero is reminiscant of Stephen Donldson and his charater development is right out of J.R.R. Tolkien. I first read Morigu the dead so many years ago I can't remember the year, but even then I was saying to myself, "Oh boy her's one of those "unknown jewels", you know the ones you can't put down that no one has heard of? Then after reading The Desecration many years later I was just as suprised that Mr. Perry had kept to the theme of the original novel. To those of you who haven't had a chance to read it yet, if you can get your hands on a copy DO SO! (Read "Morigu The Dead" first though or you may end up a bit confused.) Mr. Perry I hope you do complete the series, and answer the unaswerable question posed by Death, (keeping in mind I read this many years ago), "I'm going to find a way to kill something thats already dead.." Good Luck, and keep writing.
Rating: Summary: Good, but not as good as The Dead Review: I actually read this one second. It is good but it lacks in some areas. Perry's character development is excellent but the story is lacking. Read the two and you will see a huge difference between the two.
Dammuth's final battle is an excellent piece of writing however. The beginning is weak, in my opinion. The battles with the fomarions didnt impress me for some reason. Donal Longsword didnt fit very well either. Good book but not excellent.
Rating: Summary: NOT FOR TOLKIEN GLORY-SEEKERS Review: I came across this book in '87. Have read it "uh" too many times to count. For perhaps the first time, the 'good guys' are losing the battle. The 2nd book 'Morigu: The Dead' came out in '90. The 'good guys' are still gettin their **** kicked. One would think that with the 'Hunter' and the 'God of Death' fighting on the 'good guys' side they would stand a chance. Hah! Queen Arianrood seems to be 3 steps ahead. Its' been seven LONG years M.C.P. Give us a break!
Rating: Summary: I'm in trouble now. I need "The Dead" Review: I didn't plan to expect too much from this "older work" but it's great. And I'm not saying that because the author and I share the same name.
My problem, now, is that I need the next book to continue the story! Anyone out there have "Morigu: The Dead" that I can borrow or buy? I had to search three online book stores before I found a used copy of this one.
Rating: Summary: Unexpectedly wonderful!! Review: I don't even read Sci-fi books, I'm more of the romance, drama, a lot of classics, mostly anything that's about real people. My boyfriend fist got me into Sci-fi with the re-release of starwars in the theater, and then he asked me to read the morigu books (he has both). I reluctantly did so, only for him, and to my surprise I found that I really enjoyed both the Desecration and the Dead, and now Im waiting for a conclusion, the good guys have got to get that girl sometime! Come on MCP, did you die? Because thats the only acceptable excuse, you've got a romance reader hooked, this is the ultimate. END
Rating: Summary: Great Book! Review: I first picked up Morigu the Descrecration when I was 17 years old at an airport in St. Louis on a flight to Germany after completing basic training in 1986. I read through the entire book on the flight and spent the next three years anxiously anticipately the sequel. Unfortunately it was closer to 5 to 6 years before the sequel Morigu: The Dead came out but it was so worth the wait. This book combines the vast fantasy kingdoms and conflicts of Tolkien with the great fantasy characters of R.E. Howard and other greats. I absolutely love this setting and only hope that the final installment will one day be written.
Rating: Summary: the greatest series Review: I first read the Morigu when I picked up a copy of The Dead and The Desecration at a garage sale. Since that time, I have scoured book stores, and the web looking for addtional copies. (Mine have been read to the point of exhaustion.) Thanks to Amazon, I was able to not only pick up a new copy, but find that Mark Perry, (now Mark Leahy) is still alive. I hope that all who have read the books will post comments here so that maybe after years of waiting, we may all have closure.
