Rating: Summary: a reader from Holland Review: I've read this book for school, literature. I really advise other people to read this book too. It is a very clear story about the differences between black and white people. What they say in this book is the truth, and that is not really romantic. I think this book can help people by getting a realistic view on this item because black people are still treated badly! So, it is not just a novel to read, it is a book with a moral and a very good one. I hope you will read it too!
Rating: Summary: WOW! Review: Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry is a Newberry Award Winner. It is classified as a historical fiction book for advanced readers. The book is set in the deep south during the Great Depression. It is the story of the Logan family's struggle to remain independent and strong through this difficult time. Cassie, the narrator, does some growing up through the book, and has to face some harsh realities of life. I think this is a terrific book that makes the life of this family come alive. The story is clearly told, and you find yourself wrapped up in the emotion of the tale. I read and reviewed this book in Dr. Tom Sherman's Children's Literature course at Winona State University.

Rating: Summary: nice Review: I liked this book 'Roll of thunder, Hear my cry'. I liked it, because it gives a clear picture of what it was like for blacks to live in the south of America. I liked the bit where Cassie pretends to be Lillian Jean's friend, because she gets back at Lillian Jean for the time that Lillian Jean's father made her apologise for bumping into Lillian Jean. The book is also about friendship and the difficulties that might give when people can't see each other as people. And about real good friendships like TJ and Stacey and daddy and Mr. Morrison. I think friendship always is an interesting topic, because it has many aspects and in this book you can see quite a few of these aspects in one story.
Rating: Summary: How can anyone give it 1 star? Review: Great book. I loved it. It really moved me. I don't see how anyone can not like it. It is like a peice of artwork in every way. It is very sad but I still lived it.
Rating: Summary: funny Review: When I heard that this book was about friendship, possible and impossible friendships, I thought I did not going to like this book. I considered that literature about friendship is often a thing for girls. But I was wrong. This was a very interesting book about friendship in the Southern States of America. The theme friendship was mixed with exciting stories about the difficult position of the blacks, and about the courage that was needed in those days to do the things you wanted to do. It shows how important a thing ( in this case a piece of land ) can be for someone. The book describes this struggle for self-respect and pride by telling the story of the Logan family. The book is very fascinating. A real must!
Rating: Summary: This story is about a black family living in the racist Sout Review: "Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry" is a vivd story about a family whose warm ties to each other and their land, help them survive in the racist society that they live in. It takes the events of one turbulent year, the year of the terrible, and burnings, the year in which TJ almost got killed, the year that a white girl humiliates Cassie, because she is Black. Cassie learns that having a place of their own is the Logan's family's lifeblood. The land is so important to Cassie's family, because it gives them their courage, and pride, and it is what makes them so different. This story centers on the efforts of the Logan family to hold onto their economic freedom that they have gained since the Civil War. It's told by nine year old Cassie Logan and focuses on her family's conflict in dealing with a white community that does not want to accept African-Americans as equals. It also shows the inner rewards of Black pride, independence, and love. It is very hard to believe that this is a fiction story, because of the autobiographical way Taylor writes it. Taylor writes with a sense of pride and a respect for humanity. "Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry" is truly a work of examplary literature.
Rating: Summary: It's about a family who fights against the force of racism. Review: "Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry", is truly an inspirational story. It's about one black family who struggle against the forces of the racist community they live in, in order to keep their land, their home, and their pride. The author truly brings out the characters in the story. One of the characters in the story, is named Cassie. She has an intriguing personality, as well as a stubborness all her own. He really brought out what life was like in the 1930's. The main character in the story is Cassie. She is struggling with the harsh reality that White people thought they were better than Black people were. This was a dilemma because she was constantly arguing, and getting herself, and her family, into trouble. She was part of an independent black family, who owned their own land and home. This angered the community, so the bank demanded immediate payment of their land. This was when the family fought back with all its might. The Logans never gave up hope, and in the end, it all worked out. It's about the triumph of one family, over the malignant forces of a whole community, in order to keep their land, their home, and their pride. I recommend this book to adults, children, and people of all ages. Once you read it, you'll agree, it's truly an inspirational book.
