Rating: Summary: A Hard Lesson Learned in Survival Review: Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry tells the story of one African American family, fighting to stay together in the wake of brutal racist attacks, illness, poverty, and betrayal in the Deep South of the 1930s. Cassie Logan, who is nine, has never had reason to suspect that any white person could or would want to do her or her family harm. That all changes in one traumatic year when her community begins to be attacked by angry night riders who what nothing more that to hurt African Americans because their skin is black. This is a powerful novel that with any hope will instill in its reader the affects of racism and predjudice. It is the winner of the Newbwey Medal for contribution to literature for children, but I feel that this is a novel that people of all ages can learn from.
Rating: Summary: Heres a REALLY good book!!!! Review: Roll Of Thunder Hear My Cry is a book about a girl and her family trying to survive in a cruel world of racism and hate in 1933 Mississippi. The girl Cassie Logan, who narrates the story, is the only daughter of her two siblings. Her mother, Mary Logan, teaches at the local school for Black children. Her father, David Logan, is away working most of the year. Her grandmother, who is David's mother known as "Big Ma", also lives with them and helps with the household and with the land. The Logans' are the only Black family who own their own land in this area of Mississippi. The land had been passed from Big Ma's parents to Big Ma and her husband. Now the land is passed to her remaining sons, David and Hammer Logan. In a way I can relate to the Logan children. I was also teased as a child, though not nearly as severely. The Logans were treated very poorly by almost all of the white people. Cassie wanted revenge on the people who mistreated her family. She was right. Nothing living should ever be treated like her family and many other black families were treated. I would also feel like seeking revenge on the people who hurt me and hurt the people close to me. Out of all the historical books that I have read, I liked this one the most. I really enjoyed reading this book and learning about how it was for Black families in the thirties. My favorite part of the book is the ending because it seemed like I was racing to get to the next page and see what was about to happen. It was almost as if I wasn't reading fast enough for my hands. If I could change a part of the book it would be the part about TJ. I would have had him die from the beating. Not because I didn't like his character, but just to make it a little more emotional. I would definetly recommend this book to others. I think people who enjoy learning and reading about U.S. history will enjoy this book.

My comments about this book is if your kids want to read this book let them. Its the best book for kids.IT tells about how the white people treated the black.
Rating: Summary: Great book for middle-schoolers Review: This is the second time that I have read Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry, and it was even better this time. The characters are likable and the plot is constantly moving. There is good humor mixed with the seriousness of the events to keep reading entertaining. Everyone should read this book by the time he or she is 13.
Rating: Summary: Its ok Review: This book was good, I thought it was a good story and a nice plot. I did't mind reading it and I might read the others. I liked how you could relate to all the characters. I would like to read this book again in the future.
Rating: Summary: This book was beter than the movie. Review: This book is a nice story, not what I would pick off a shelf to read, but it showed what life was like in "the day". The movie, to someone that hasn't read the book, would be extremely confusing. The book was clearly organized better than the movie. This is a book I would recomend to someone who wants to read a book that has a setting when sharecroppers were common. I gave this book four stars.
Rating: Summary: the book is pretty sweet Review: The book Roll of Thunder in my opinion was a very good book. Even though the book was confusing because there was so many characters, I still enjoyed it. I think the book taught me a little more than i knew about how blacks were treated in the 1930's and the segregation that went on. The book was very detailed and written well. I liked the book and the many interesting things that happened. The book was also very suspensful. The only thing i did not like about the book is the way the book ended because it did not say anything about what happened to T.J.
Rating: Summary: The book it a lot better than the movie! Review: In my opinion the book Roll of Thunder Hear my Cry wasn't too bad. It was a lot better than the movie and more detailed. It was a good book for young adults. There were a lot of ups and downs through out the whole book. The only thing I didn't really care for about the book was all the characters. It got really confusing at times, you would have to be serious about the book and not just read here and there, you would have to stay with it. I learned a lot from the book, about the days when the blacks for treated terrible.
Rating: Summary: It's a LOT better than the movie!!! Review: Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry is a good book. I liked reading it, but it had a few slow points. The book had suspense and showed what life was like when blacks were just starting to get the same rights as white people. The book goes in a logical order and it's one you will find hard to put down during parts; during others, you'll find it hard to pick up. It is full of things that make you laugh and believe they are onery kids just like everyone else. They show love and compassion for each other and enjoy each other's company. They get in fights as families do, but in general they get along. The book teaches you many details that you normally wouldn't think of because you aren't completely informed about what used to go on. This includes segregation. In my opinion...read the book!
Rating: Summary: A Book Review by Lee Review: Don't you hate how African Americans were treated after the Civil War. You don't, well the racism will smack you up side the head. No I mean that you will feel the hatred in those white mens eyes. In Roll of Thunder Hear My Cry there is so much racism that you jut want to yell stop, and fix it but you have to realize that this is semireal and it did happen. In the Logans family thier is Mama, Big Mama, Papa, Cassie, Stacy, Litte Man, Christopher-John, and Uncle Hammer. Mama Casies mom is nice and color blind she will let nice white men in but mean ones noway hosay. Big Mama is kind of the same way and so is everybody else but, Uncle Hammer and Cassie they have hot tempers and Cassie has a tricky mind. When Cassie accadently bumded into Lillian Jean she had to call her "Miz." So later on she was all nice then she as showing her something when he got her revenge. The Grangers are a family that had 1000 acers before the war and had to sell the land after it and are trying to take it back. I rate this book 5 out of 5 because it is dscriptive and fun. I like this book and recamend it to you.
