Rating: Summary: Young Love Review: Romiette and Julio, a novel relating to the children of todays world. A story filled with violence, danger, but best of all love and a little bit of comedy. Romiette a young black female fell in love with a hispanic brother named Julio, who in return lovd her back. Now a days you would think that it would always be the parents to prevent young love, but now things are changing. A gang that ride by the name of Devildogs refuse to acknoledge the fact that one of their skin tones is dating another. If you've already read the novel Romeo and Juliet I suggest you read the remix: Romiette and Julio. In this book you'll be able to relate so many problems of today with the ones in this one book. This novel has the power to make you laugh, cry, and so angry all at the same time, so my advice to ya'll youngin's jump out this world for a while, and read yourself through another, because there is no other place better to run away to then in a book, exspecially one made just for you...
Rating: Summary: A touching revelation of romance in the face of racism Review: Romiette and Julio, demonstrate courage, if not common sense, in facing their tormentors. Draper portrays both teenagers and the issues of racism and gang violence with sensitivity. Her writing will keep readers on the edge of the seats waiting for the conflict to be resolved.
Rating: Summary: Romiette and Julio Review: Romiette and Julio, written by Sharon M. Draper, is about two high school students, Romiette Cappelle and Julio Montegue, who fall in love. Julio is a sixteen year-old boy who moves to Cinncinati, Ohio to get away from his gang-oriented school back in Corpus Cristi. There he meets an African American young girl, also sixteen, named Romiette. Romiette and Julio meet in an internet chat room at first and instantly connect. Than they find out that they go to school together and are estatic! But this couple's budding romance fuels hatred from a local gang called the Devil Dogs. Because of their different cultural backgrounds, the Devil Dogs threaten then constantly and cause tension between the two families. This book is a great present-day version of the Shakespearean play Romeo and Juliet, with a twist to make the story more appealing to readers today.
Rating: Summary: Middle School Librarian's Impression Review: Suspense, racism, Internet intrigue, and romance; this book has it all! Romiette Cappelle, a black American girl, meets Julio Montague, a Hispanic boy from Texas, in a chat room. When they meet in person in the school cafeteria it is love at first sight. The similarity of their names with Shakespeare's heroes is not coincidence. Romiette and Julio's relationship attracts harassment by the school's Black gang, the Devildogs. They don't like the new Hispanic boy dating a "sister." Things go from bad to worse when the couple and their friends try to expose the gang's illegal activities in order to persuade gang members to leave them alone. The conclusion is far sweeter than Shakespeare's, if not a little predictable. This is a quick, enjoyable novel for today's teens.
Rating: Summary: C'mon already Review: The plot is getting old...and thats not the worst....It was a good idea the author had a good spin on the story but some of the names just ruined if for me....I mean seruiously Rommiette and Julio, its just changing the same endings and Cappelle and Mantague or whatever....and she was Lady Brianna....and Ben was his best friend....also Destiny its just personifing the theme....also the reporter Nannette and the camera man Lawerence.....and the leader of the "Devil Dogs" Terrel--sound like Tybalt at all? The idea was good and most of the story too--but the book was dragged down by the cheesy name choices...All you have to do is read the play and this book once and u'll notice too many similarities--more that I haven't listed--...sorry thats just my take, but overall good solid book
Rating: Summary: Modern day Romeo and Juilet Review: This book is a great book with a lot of feeling put into it. I think the author put alot of thought into it and almost sounded like a teen herself. She seemed very notified of what teenagers do. I loved the romance in her book. Romance is my favorite subject and I'm like a huge romantic so that had to be one of the best parts. She had alot of good suspence in this story as well. I have always been a fan of Shakespeare's "Romeo and Juilet", and even though this isn't quite the same, I love this version as much as the classic. Anyone who likes to read teen romance novels should read this book. It is my favorite and I'm sure it will be one of yours too.
Rating: Summary: WHAT A GREAT BOOK! Review: This book is definatly one of the best books that I have ever read. It has everything I like, love, romance, and so much more.
Rating: Summary: what a great book for teens Review: This book is incredeble! First i thought it was going to be boring, but not at all. I could really relate to this book because im a teen myself. This book is mostley about two intiracial couples fighting for their rights to be 2gether! This book is not only a romance novel, but its about gang related problems and racism. Very similar to romeo and juliette. Very exciting and making you want to read more of it. I recommend this book to anybody who feels interested in this great book! GIVE IT A TRY!
