Rating: Summary: You Can't Just Read It Once Review: I have to say, as an avid reader, that out of all the fantasy books I've read, Sabriel is my favorite. The world that Nix has created is truly stunning. The rich detail in the plot makes it so that new things are discovered with every re-reading. (And I've read it enough times to know!) The characters are very well done, with just enough mystery behind them to leave you guessing. Lirael, the next book in the trilogy, is almost as satisfying, but Sabriel is definately the one you need to read to get the best of Garth Nix's skills as a fantasy novelist. An absolute must-read.
Rating: Summary: Sabriel Review: I have read lots of books and science fiction literature is my passion, I think it must be the same for Nix. In this book he shows awesome detail, and takes you on a thrilling and adventurous journy. The main charecters seem so real and their story is one I plan to read again and again. Sabriel is everything a reader schould want and more. A real page turner. I know from expirience, it will really take you.
Rating: Summary: Sabriel & Lirael are the Abhorsens to all books! Review: Sabriel is the best. I loved Harry Potter, the Chrestomanci books, Tamora Pierce's Circle of Magic, the Circle Opens, and the Immortals, The Golden Compass and The Subtle Knife as well as the Animorph books, Broken Sky, and So You Want to Be A Wizard. All of them were beyond excellent, and 'Sabriel' was amazing. From the characters to the history of the world and the structure of magic, this book is as good as it gets. It's an action packed fun read--and it's not overly full with romantic stuff. The book is very balanced, and you'll find yourself wanting to keep reading, even after you finished that book, to the sequel 'Lirael: Daughter of the Clayr' and the upcoming 'Abhorsen' ! A wonderful book!
Rating: Summary: *An Entrancing Fantasy* Review: Sabriel is a great book. I love all the characters, especialy Sabriel. She has so much depth to her, she seems as real as you and me. The plot in this book has so many twists and turns, you will be on your toes the whole time. This is my all-time favorite book. i hope you will love it as much as I do.
Rating: Summary: Great!! Review: Everyone should read this wonderful novel by Garth Nix. Sabriel lives in a world that is so strange, wondrous, and exciting, that sometimes I truly wish I was in her shoes.
Rating: Summary: Yawn - Fantasy Without The Good Parts Review: I read all of the wonderful reviews, and I was absolutely ecstatic to get this book... and then I read it. It has interesting imaginative features, I agree, but whilst the characters were going through all these perils, I didn't give a whit. I didn't care about any of the characters, and I attribute this to lack of character development - Sabriel has no personality, it seems. Sure, she is flawed like the rest of the characters, but she just doesn't have enough emotional depth to be likable. That's where this book has failed, and it bored me absolutely to tears, fantasy lover as I am.
Rating: Summary: A Great Garth Nix Adventure Review: A wonderful story of dark magic, and a beautifully pictured heroine. Sabriel deserves 5 stars plus for it's on you toes adventure and heart stoping romance. This book is one of my faves, and I've read it four times. A story of destiny, adventure, love, and death. In this story you will find out how to kill the all ready dead, and how to bring them back.
Rating: Summary: Powerful!!!!! Review: Sabriel is a touching story about a young woman, tugged into a constant war against Death and the living Dead. A must have this book is Garth Nix's best. Mogget is soooooo cute! A must buy!
Rating: Summary: An Excellent Book. Review: This was my first Garth Nix book and one of my first books that dealt with necromacy. When I first opened the book, the story and the setting swept me away. Every moment I felt like I was Sabriel and doing all the terrifying things that needed to be done. I was scared when she was scared and angry when she angry. Sabriel is a good book and I recommend it to everyone.
Rating: Summary: Perfect example of unique imagination Review: I loved this book. It was pretty strange at first, but everything is explained and you get the hang of "Garth's world". The Old Kingdom (his world) is full of vivid details and imagination. I loved his characters because they developed so well. His characters weren't perfect, they had flaws that they learned from and grew out of. Sabriel didn't always win either. That adds the excitement to the book. Her friend Touchstone grew out of his problem and Mogget, was far from perfect. (Which I applaud because that's what makes a character interesting... I write, so I should know) Mogget was so UNperfect, that he was half evil! Garth Nix deserves a standing ovation for this book! Hip hip huzzah!
