Rating: Summary: A very good story. Review: Ocie makes a good story figue. Her fights w/ her step-father show her spirit. I've enjoyed this story many times.
Rating: Summary: A masterpiece! Review: This book is one of the best I have ever read! Rinaldi did an outstanding job. Before I read the book I barely knew anything about the Civil War, and now I have developed an interest in it. I couldn't put it down. Oscie is strong and independent and will come alive in anyone's eyes.
Rating: Summary: Enticing! A riviting story with history well woven in! Review: The characters are increadibly interesting and throughout the book, impossibly, become more intersting. Well known histrical personalities are woven intricately in to create one of the best historical novels I've ever read!
Rating: Summary: Extremely well written! An extraordinary read!! Review: The book followed history extremely accurately and it was very good. The characters were well defined and Oscie Mason was an amazingly lively character. The book was VERY good and it is highly suggested
to anyone who likes historical fiction.

Rating: Summary: Good book Review: When I pickedd up this book I barly knew anything about the Civil War but know I finally understand it. The main charector Oscie is strong, outgoing, and a natural leader
Rating: Summary: one of the best books i've ever read Review: I read this book for pleasure and for 2 days I could not put it down. Ann Rinaldi is one of the best writers of our time. Her characters are superb! I love the strength of Oscie and the wit of Will McLean. This is my favorite of Ann Rinaldi's books. I recomend this book to anyone who loves to read or just has time on their hands. I rate this book on a scale of 1 to 10 a 11! Enjoy
Rating: Summary: I couldn't put it down!!=) Review: This book is one of her best! It's about a strong Southern girl who doesn't like her new stepfather as much as her mother wants her to. There is a lot of conflicts she has when facing the facts that he is here to stay. All of this happens during the Civil War, and the war starts on her front lawn! The main character's sister falls in love and becomes bethrothed to a Yankee soldier. Oscie (the main character) and her family run into many other problems together. Can Oscie and her family make it? Will Oscie ever love her stepfather? Definately pick it up today! It's worth reading over and over!!=
Rating: Summary: The life of Oscie Mason living through the Civil War Review: Oscie Mason is a proud and strong daughter of her father. When he dies she is young but able to recall all of his ways. Oscie's mother, Virginia, marries the merchant Will McLean and Oscie fights for what she loved and still believes in. She suffered through the Civil War which began at her mother's plantation, Yorkshire and ended in the once quiet town of Appomattox. McLean brings what he calls "New South" with him into her life. After the war, no one was the same again. Ann Rinaldi beautifully bound history and her creative ideas to form this story. I strongly recommend it to everyone
