Rating: Summary: Absolutely Wonderful!!! Review: This was the first Ann Rinaldi book I had ever read and now I'm hooked. I read it about a year ago and I loved it. I have read all of the currently published books she has written, but this one is still the best. This touching story still captivates me even after many readings.
Rating: Summary: I liked the characters. Review: I personally don't like historical fictions but I had to read either a science or historical fiction for my English book report. I looked at the cover of the book, "In My Father's House" and knew at once that it was a historical fiction. So I checked out that book in the library and read it over the spring break. It wasn't as boring as I thought any historical fiction would be so I finished the book pretty fast. I kinda liked this book because it was realistic and had lots of different characters.

Ocie Mason faces a lot of changes during the war. She gets a new pa. She loses a sister and gains a brother all in the beginning. The war comes to Ocie's house, her fathers house. Rating: Summary: Highly entertaining! Review: This book is perfect is you love history with romance thrown in. It has just the right amount of each. I love the way it follows the Civil War from start to finish. Ann Rinaldi is one of my new favorite authors.
Rating: Summary: interesting if you like reading about the civil war Review: I personally thought this book was a bit confusing. The main character is Oscie and she matures during the war. The main plot is for her step father to safely put her family away from the war. There is a lot of moving about but that adds up to the main plot of the story. Many people show Oscie the way to mature and finally she finds someone who cares for her a lot.
Rating: Summary: I learned so much, and loved the book! Review: Ann Rinaldi is one of my favorite authors. All of her books are very good, and teach the reader about history. This novel was especially historical. In My father's House was about the McLean family who lived in the house at Bull Run, which was the narrator's father's house, and then later moved to a house in Appomattox Court House. Bull Run was the first major battle of the civil war, and General Robert E. Lee's surrender to General Ulysses S. Grant took place in the study of the McLean's house in Appomattox Court House. I was so interested while reading all about the characters lives, and then thrilled at the end to realize that it was all true. I think that one of the best parts about Ann Rinaldi's books is that at the end of them she gives a brief summary of what is true and what is fiction. It was just incredible at how accurate the whole book was to the history, and how interesting the character's lives were throughout the war. I loved the novel In My Father's House!
Rating: Summary: My favorite book, seriously! I LOVED it! Review: This is my absolute favorite book! I love historical fiction (esp.Civil War) and Ann Rinaldi is a wonderful author. The critics are right -- it's a definite five *'s!
Rating: Summary: One of the greatest books I've ever read. Review: This was the first book I ever read by Ann Rinaldi and I have read many of her books since. I first read this book in fourth grade, I'm now in seventh and I still love it. It is a great story with history and romance woven together. I love most of her books because of the great romances they include. This one is no different, it also makes the civil war come alive to the reader. It is an excellent book. For anyone who loves this book already:If you ever visit Washington D.C. you can visit nearby Mannassas and see for yourself the breathtaking view on Henry Hill, the feild where Benjamin Chinn's mules grazed, and Lucinda Dogan's house. At the Mannassas visitors center you can get a map of selfguided walking or driving tours. There is also a museum in Manassas which has information about Mannassas during the Civil War. One disapointing fact though is no one knew the location where the McLeans actually lived but seeing where this book took place is still highly enjoyable.
Rating: Summary: how skillfully Ann Rinaldi weaves history into this novel Review: Ann Rinaldi skillfully weaves history into this novel. I found that I could not put it down. I loved the way she puts dates in this book, it really gives you a sense of when this is taking place. This books was so well discribed that I found that I was Oscie Mason, a feature all good books have. This book tells the story of a young girl whos mother gets remarried to Will McLean. At first she does not except him as one of the family. when you read this book you feel the same anger, sorrow and happiness that she feels.
