Rating: Summary: Thumbs up! Get lost! Review: This is a pretty cool book, but it's definitely for the more adventurous counter-culture types. If you want a book that tells you all about big museums, fancy hotels, nice restaurants and such, this is not for you. If you're more into the fringe element, Mr. Pauker's packed alot of cool info in this book, and you can't go wrong. I'll definitely take this book along on my next trip to Amsterdam. Joe Pauker's writing is full of slang and obscenities, so if you're an old fogey, or the puritanical sort, you definitely should avoid this book. My only complaint is - the book seems too short and my copy is already falling apart because of the poor binding. Otherwise, it's a great book that I highly recommend.
Rating: Summary: The Real Amstedam Review: Unlike other books that focus on pleasing over the hill tourists, this is a real guide. It tells everything, that the "normal" books dare not cover.
Rating: Summary: worthless drivel Review: WE got this book when planning our trip to amsterdam and if we had listened to half of what the author had to say we probably wouldn't have enjoyed the city as much as we did. he has you believe that you'll be walking through blue haze all the time and wading through condoms. there's a lot more to Amsterdam than the drugs and sex. we trashed our guide because no one we met wanted it....don't waste your money.
Rating: Summary: Great Book, Not for Those Looking for a Typical Travel Guide Review: When I was transferred to Amsterdam for a year I went out and bought several guides to the city. A friend gave me this book as a going away present and told me that it was what I "really needed to get to know Amsterdam". This is not your parent's travel guide (actually...depends on your parents). Get another guide to find the art museums and the five star hotels. This is the guide to find out where everyone is hanging out, buying their drugs and their music. I especially recommend it to find some laid back non-touristy coffee shops and some toursity but fun off beat museums. Only problem is the price, a bit steep for such a short guide, but it is in the end worth the price.

Rating: Summary: Good, but not necessarily worth the price. Review: While I liked the information provided by this book - alternative sites not covered by most travel books, especially focusing on the "coffee shops" of Amsterdam - I didn't find it worth the 14.95 price tag. It's a very thin book, only about 30 pages long, and the fact of the matter is you don't need a guide book for these sites - you'll find them yourself! Still, if you want the information provided and don't mind the price, the book is well-written, informative and the cover's printed on hemp paper.
Rating: Summary: get an opinionated, uncorrupted, funny guide to Amsterdam. Review: With this guide, I found that I was going on recommendations by someone who really knows Amsterdam and that I was going places where no other guide book would send me (I checked). If you're planning a trip to Amsterdam and don't consider yourself an old fogey, you should buy this one first!
