Summary: The patch solves many problems...
Review: For those of you whining about the bugginess of the game, there is now a patch that solves most of the issues with the game, including slow-downs. If you played Battlefield 1942 and loved it, you'll love this game too just for the fact that the choppers are much more controllable. If you've never played BF1942, this is still a great game to play but I do agree that it is much more of a super-mod than a completely new game. The graphics are extremely CPU intensive too. Nevertheless, I have a lot of fun playing it.

Summary: Pilots win again
Review: OK, so the graphics are better, and some of the maps are cool, but once again we have the fundamental BF failing: Anyone who can fly reasonably well dominates the game. I know, I know "so just learn to fly". Fair point, but if I wanted to play a flight combat simulator, I'd buy one. The game therefore degenerates to hanging about the airfield, fighting team mates to get a chopper, then wasting everything that moves on the ground. Don't bother.

Summary: Outdated graphics and game play
Review: I purchased this game expecting everything that gamer magazines and web sites promised. What I saw on my computer was a game with graphics at least 2 to 3 years behind other games. Sure the maps are large and you can drive vehicles but other games now do a vetter job of this. The landscape is very repetive, the AI is terrible and the interaction with objects and targets is very poor. Try Far Cry, Painkiller, Vietcong or UT 2004.

Summary: Huge Dissapointment
Review: I bought this for $50.00 (when it was just released) and loved how it was team based. It had a lot of potential but so many bugs. Like many others, I eagerly anticipated the patch to fix these bugs. Patch was released and caused even more problems. Now the game crashes constatnly during online gameplay. I use to play this game daily. Now, I haven't touched it for about a month. Bought Farcry instead and play it's great singleplayer mode. I use to have so much loyalty to EA games, they've produced so many great games that I still enjoy (such as the Total War line, Command and Conquer, Madden, NBA Live, etc.) but their support for this game really left me feeling bitter and burned. They treat their customers like (...). Take my advice and do not waste your money on this game. I recommend Farcry (if your system's video card is above average, although I use a Geforce FX 5200, I can play fine in low settings and it still looks great). Hope this helped.

Summary: disappointed
Review: Graphics are awesome but it is very demanding on your CPU. Anything lower then a P4 3.0 and 1gig of memory you find game play very laggy at times.

The weapons models look very realistic. Single player mode is fun but will become boring after a few hours. The AI are lazy and tend to stand around. Planes and choppers are very user friendly. Anyone can fly them.

Online play. If you have young children beware. There are a lot of angry people online who insist on cussing and yelling at other players. The chat can become very nasty at times .
Game play will change online!!

There is a patch out for the game. From what I understand it resolved some issues the game had with a select few video cards. There were also a few gun changes which split the m60/law kit and also reduced the accuracy of the US weapons.

Personally, I would stay away from this game and wait for BF 2.
If you need your BF:V fix and already have bf1942 you can download Eve of destruction. A free mod. The only difference between BF:V and EoV is ground cover. Other then that it's the same game. Same weapons, same maps.

in short.. I give BF:V two thumbs down.

Summary: Pretty good but not great
Review: Okay first lets start with the good:
1. This game gives you a lot more background info than all the other Battlefield games.
2. You get a lot more modern weapons and vehicles. (the helicopters are awsome)
3. When you get in a vehicle you can listen to the radio. This is bascially a lot a 60's music you can choose from, or if you downloaded songs you can listen to those.
4. You can change what you look like.
5. Engineers have a lot of kick ass stuff.
Now the bad:
1. The graphics aren't the best in the world and I have a knew labtop that wold be able to handle them if they were.
2. You have to download a lot of other things to get the game to work correctly
3. Single player SUCKS
4. It's too expensive. This should be an expansion pack to Battlefield 1942 or another patch you could download

Now you heard what I have to say, but it's your decision if you want to buy it or not.

Summary: Just the facts-
Review: Many of the reviews that you will see here are biased due to the fact that their hardware doesn't perform the way they want it to. Furthermore, they will proceed to review a game based on such merits vs the games actual advantages and disadvantages.

I don't like to compare this game to BF1942 because I think there are enough differences to seperate the 2. Naturally people don't want to pay for something if they don't have to .... thus justifying statements like "should have been a $20 mod." I paid $40 and its worth every cent. (and now you can get it from amazon for under $30!) Anyway, I have no alligence to EA but I honestly feel they did a good thing with this one. Heres some pros:

The vehicles are balanced - air / land supremecy is not a factor here with intermediate or better players. I felt as if the land vehicles dominated in 1942, and the air vehicles dominated in Desert Combat. Why that may have been the intent it leaves for very unbalanced battles and personally I enjoy a close fight.

new innovative features - I LOVE the fact that they integrated an old school sound track! I actually had a blast when 2 of my buddies jumped in the huey with me and I turned on the radio to "fortunate son" (everyone can hear it playing) and we ride into battle guns blazing! All vehicles have this ability. You can also use a "tunneling" feature as the VC - and set traps on vehicles. Theres nothing like trapping a tank and watching a bunch of crazies pile in .... believe me they will have a blast! ;) You can a pick vehicles up with helicopters and move them into battle, and in my opinion the air vehicles are easier to manuever than in 1942 .. but not TOO easy such as DC.

Perfoms well (keep in mind this is subjective)- Been on many servers with no major lag problems that I can actually blame on the game / server itself. Game looks good on my TI4600 even at lower performance. I have seen it played on multiple systems of varying hardware with no problems. I have seen forum after forum of people complaining about bugs. The typical cause? The infamous "no-cd" patches. Just buy the damn game ... its worth it.

Disadvantages: The AI in this is pretty good when cranked up but still not great. A bit predictable, but somewhat crafty at times. If you like single player it will probably be fun for a while but multiplayer is much better.

Overall this game is a keeper and goes into my collection. If you buy 5 games in 2004 this definitely ranks as one of them.

Gl and enjoy!

Summary: Great game, but not perfect yet
Review: I do not agree with that, but this is how they get to do to release games: first we have a poor performance version, with some lack of functionality, but three or four months later we get patch 1 and 90% of problems get solved.

There are several problems, some within the Options Menu !! How this could not be tested before releasing ??

But I don't mind, it's a great game and it will get better and better after each new patch.

Summary: It sucks and here is why.
Review: After reading all of the bad reviews about this game, I decided to write my own. After buying this game, I played it only a few minutes and went back to origional 1942. The reason why, it was very laggey on my system. I just thought that I did not have enough horsepower. XP 2800 with 512 meg DDR PCI 3200 and nVidia 5200. this setup should be great if you take a look at the requirements on the box. Got great frame rates in 1942. Sometimes as high as 100 but averaged around 30.

Since most of you are probably not computer programmers, I am going to take a stab at what I believe is causing the lag problem. In a nutshell, contacting the server too much. Based on what I have experienced, I believe that 1942 and Vietnam contact the game server and ask permision for you to do anything. For example, change weapons. You press the "3" key to change to machine gun. that generates a server request, "Can i have a machine gun?" you now wait till the server gets back to you as to whether or not you can have a machine gun. since this happens so quickly and since most of you are not programmers you do not notice it. this asking permission to do anything would not be such a big problem except for that i think the hit points are set up to favor the allies. for example, you and i and in berlin 1942, i have the DP and you the Stug 44. Let's say, it is set up that the DP kills with 2 bullets and the Stug 4. We both start firing at the same time. remember in order to do that, i think we have to get permission to do so. now, factor in both lag and the hit point advantage i have. you died first. the problem is, that most of you i believe blamed your death on lag (I actually do read what everyone is writing in the chat window) even though we both started firing at the same time. so what EA did in vietnam is increase the amount of permissions needed to do anything.

I will now explain how that caused the choppyness of the game as a whole. In evey game code, there is something called the game loop. it goes someting like this: 1)get from the network, 2)move player based on inputs (mouse, keyboard, etc), 3)perform calculations, 4)draw to the screen, 5)send to the network. that is a good approximation of what it takes to draw one frame. now, let's say, when compared to 1942. vietnam asks twice as much permission. this means that the program spends twice as much time in steps 1 and 5. now, the more time you spend in steps 1 and 5 means less time on step 4 on a per second bases! that is why i believe that vietnam is choppy.

my moral: we need to get EA to publish the hit points per weapon and have the program stop asking permission so much. Hey EA, how many bullets from a DP does it take to kill a person? From a STug 44? how many shots to kill T-34/85? a Panzer IV? i think EA favored the allies in that manner.

your homeowork: play berlin and watch everyone. i have noticed it routinely takes 2 germans to take down 1 russian. I won't even go into the tanks. that is obvious.
