Summary: disturbing
Review: Im not to sure what to think of this one. Some academic folks head to a remote south american jungle to discover the nature of cannabalism. At first, all is well. The natives seem docile enough and perhaps the female leads assumption that cannibalism is dead is accurate. Enter the atrocites. Here, we decend into sterotype heaven. The criminal rednecks, the violences they inflict on the tribe and then the revenge. The academics are caught up in the maelstrom and are dully punished along with the crooks. I'd like to be more specific but that would be ruining the fun. what these natives do to their prisoners is barbaric and gory! You best leave your meals to later when watching this film. So why only three stars? Well, it plods along for the first hour before things come together. Some of us might not make it that far. The acting is hammy and overdone. Some times, this can be part of the fun but here its just annoying. You almost wish the cannibals would hurry up and finish the job to get these paper cut outs out of the picture. The transfer to DVD is nicely done. The picture is clear and the sound is crisp. If you are into watching some good old boys get tortured, hung, hacked and eaten, by all means, buy this film.

Summary: This movie's got "guts"
Review: For the movie itself, I give it 3 stars, but the creative gore scenes bring it up to a 4. I've seen a lot of gory movies, but this surprised me. never have I seen a guy get the top of his head chopped off and the brains eaten out, totally in your face, gore bonanza!!!! Ferox also features one of the most disgusting scenes in movie history, a guy's stomach is ripped open and the cannibals pull out his guts, intestines, internal organs, etc. and devour them, this is hardcore...not for the squemish. It may have been "the most violent movie ever" in 1981, but many movies have since outdone it, like Peter Jackson's "Dead Alive" still, it's worth seeing.

Summary: Attention: Sickos . . .
Review: This movie's for you. A film I definitely wish I could unsee or brainwash out of my mind, but my bloody curiosity got the better of me. The un-real violence and gore are absolutely revolting and if you have even one shred of conscience you'll find the real animal scenes more so--and no, I am not a vegetarian but a meat-eating hunter and kill my food and trophies mercifully and quickly! Instead of killing the animals they shoulda killed the cast and crew instead. Nuff' said!

Summary: banned in 31 countries but y
Review: all right i waited so long to get this movie and when i got it it was sorta a let down.I expected i tto be a lot more gory and be more fast paced. If i didnt wait so long i prolly would have givin it a better grade but since i did i expected more. I would still recommend this film for fans of cannibal movies but i feel that eaten alive aka the emerald jungle would be a better catch. Still ferox has its good points it gives a fare share of violence and gore so if ur willing to pay go out and pick it up.

Summary: How Did SHE Get Into Grad School?
Review: If you've seen the trailer for this movie, then you've seen all of the deaths and gory scenes already, so if that is what you're after, you've already likely got the full 2 minutes on another videotape.

A female grad student takes two friends (one dumb blonde bimbo and one male) into the jungles of South America in an attempt to prove that beliefs about cannibal tribes are a construct of racist explorers. They soon encounter two men, running and out of breath, who tell them a tale about barely escaping with their lives from a village of cannibals. Because one of the men turns out to be a drug dealer from New York, the film occassionally switches to extremely badly acted scenes in NYC showing a couple of dealers searching for him there. These scenes have nothing to do with the rest of the movie and appear to be only added later as filler.

Of course, after hearing the two men's story, the grad student and her friends decide to not only accompany them back to the village for a look-see, but camp out there and harrass the old people and young children the so-called cannibals have left behind since they are out hunting. The drug dealer's story doesn't turn out to be 100% true, but you can pretty much guess what happens to most of the cast when the hunters return the next day.

The special effects range from the very effective to the lousy (e.g. a spear smearing red paint on one victim's chest without appearing to penetrate). There are also a couple of mondo scenes of the sort that you can see on Fear Factor (maggot eating) or any nature program. Plus there is annoying and repetitious music played almost ceaselessly throughout. The ending is nicely ironic, most of the acting is adequate, the dialogue is okay, and some of the jungle footage is well done. An interesting experience to sit through once, but not worth watching again.

Summary: A great cannibal flick!
Review: To say it's not original is very ignorant because its a genre, cannibals are like monsters, you make many different films of them but no one created cannibals now did they? Many cannibal films are set in the jungle because thats where the native tribes are, do you think your gonna see a cannibal stop by Blockbuster in Toronto or something, not bloody likely! This movie does have animal cruelty but so what? Go cry somewhere else, how about rotten.com oh yeah theres nothing bad about rotten eh? This movie has a good soundtrack, it is extremely gory and I don't believe it was banned in that many countries, it's a way to get more people to buy the film . Here are some quick facts about the movie - The grubworms eaten by the native are REAL! The tree John Morghen is tied to is infested by fireants. The cast of the movie told Umberto Lenzi if he kept on killing animals they would quit. When they slice off John Morghens fake head, the natives are actually enjoying banana dipped in some sort of sweet sauce. Well people remember this isn't a place to whine about the movie if you hate it you hate it, but thats only because you are not mature enough to accept a movie like this. Enjoy!

Summary: British Horror fan expected to be shocked(but wasn't much)
Review: I imported this DVD with high expectations as it is banned in UK.The picture quality is not that good but the DVD is very well presented with great menus and a fairly good selection of extras to boot.As for the film itself OK so there are some fairly gross scenes happening such as eye gouging, genital mutalation and of course some cannabalism going on,but the effects are dated now so the shock factor has perhaps faded somewhat now, probably for the best really! However I can see how it will be banned for a long time because of the really horrofic acts of animal cruelty which are obviously not effects as anybody who has got a grip between fantasy and reality can see. What was more of a dissapontment was that the advert for the website claimed that CANNIBAL HOLOCAUST was coming soon, and when I logged on there was no news of this happening at all anywhere. All in all,a niceley presented DVD of a not so shocking now movie that sickos and gorefanatics will love regardless .I also got clobbered with an import charge when it arrived,so I paid about thirty odd english pounds for this DVD it was definetly not worth that.
