Summary: "Onions! Hot Sweet Onions!"
Review: I didn't expect such thrilling and fascinationg story from the author whose name had never been heard. Now I know his name, and I made up my mind to read as many his books as possible. His story-telling is hard to resist. It's like "an onion." It has some odor; sweat, dirt, and poverty. It has many layers of lives of characters which still wait for you to read aloud. It has some power or vigor to tell us no coincidence happens in our lives, i.e. no lives has no meaning!

Summary: A Must Read!!!
Review: I didn't think that this book would be that great but once I started reading it, it really captivated me. All the stories that somehow have some connection to the main story line intrigued me. Sachar tells the reader enough to keep them wanting to know the rest of the story all throughout the book.

Summary: Great until the ending.
Review: I don't normally read chidren's books but this came with a very strong recommendation from two of my sisters. It really was very entertaining and inventive until the ridiculous plot twists at the end which did not seem like a satisfying ending. But then I remembered: Oh yeah, it's a kid's book.

Summary: Holes is worthy of your time
Review: I enjoyed Holes for its unpredictable twists and complexities of its plot. Sachar combines the life stories of three generations: grandfather, father and son. What occurs or what is left incomplete in previous generation seems to come alive along with the continuation of the subsequent generation. Here, every action and event has a consequence and Stanley Yelnats gets to enjoy the resolutions of the events that took several generations. He impressively balances and handles the past with the present and includes many thought-provoking symbolisms such as the significance of the holes, the nicknames, the lizards and the desert among many others. I definitely recommend this work by Sachar. My only concern is that for a children's book, it may be slightly difficult for early-teens.
