Review: I enjoyed this book, and found the characters and plot strong. The pacing towards the end was a little funny, and the story, while never particularly believeable, definitely stretches even its own reality towards the end. But a good book and a worthwhile read.

Review: I enjoyed this book. It's about an innocent boy who getsaccused of stealing a famous baseball player's shoes. His punishmentis to get sent to a camp where they dig holes out in the sun. Whatthey (campers)don't know is that the camp director is making them dig for a long, lost treasure. The ending I will leave to you to find out. I enjoyed reading it, so I hope you will read it too.

Review: I feel the book Holes was an awesome book. I liked this book because it could have been something that happened in real life or fiction. At the end of each chapter it left you wondering so you would keep reading to find out what happened next. At the end of the book it left with a lot of questions to answer for yourself. I wish Louis Sachar would right a sequel.

Review: I fell in love with Louis Sachar when I read his Wayside trilogy. When I learned that he had a new, more serious book out, I was quite curious and purchased it immediately. Not only was I captivated by his brilliant storytelling, but I was fascinated by the way it all fit together so perfectly. This book is definately worthy of its Newberry Award, and I highly encourage you to add it to your library.

Review: I felt Holes was a great book with many exciting twists and turns. A new adventure lies around every curve. The story is exciting and with some funny parts. It lives up to all the awards. Holes is a book well worth reading. The book is about a boy named Stanley who is sent to a juvinile center in the middle of the desert for a crime he did not commit. He was accused of stealing a famous baseball players shoes. At the camp he meets other boys and soon discovers he has to dig a hole a day that is five feet deep and five feet wide. The warden at the camp is looking looking for something beneath the sand. What is it, and what will Stanley discover during his days at Camp Green Lake?

Summary: A book that reminds you why you fell in love with books...
Review: I finished this book in a day. Not just because the writing is easy to read, but because every time I put it down, I found myself picking it up again. The story weaves together the stories of several characters from different times and circumstances. You sense how one person may be influenced by many others (even those he has never met), and in turn how he may impact them. Holes is about character and friendship and failing and trying again. It is a lively myth full of feeling and symbolism. But it is never heavy or didactic. It is the kind of book you anticipate reading again before you have even finished it the first time. It is one of those stories you want to share with your children (even if you don't yet have children). Stanley is remarkable because he is not so very different from any of us - and that makes the best kind of protagonist.

Summary: a 'holey' enjoyable book
Review: I first came across Sachar's work at University and have loved it ever since. Holes is truly an amazingly well written story which touches on acceptability, non-conformity, friendship, buried treasure, crime and lots of onions! The book is amazingly funny and bittersweet, sometimes both at once. Although the narrative of Stanley's experience at camp and his family history may seem unconnected, they are combined in a narrative technique which is nothing short of genius! The novel sees Stanley escape his family destiny, discover who he truly is and find friendship and courage for the first time. This is a truly satisfying and beautiful read for anyone who has ever gotten into trouble, felt marginalised or had a life full of bad luck. Read it - and you will never look at holes the same again!!

Summary: It was the most amazing book I've ever read.
Review: I first got this after reading an excerpt from the book. It took me one day to finish the book because I couldn't put it down. Even though it is for younger people, i reccomend it to everyone. It made me cry and laugh. I was surprised when the guy who sits in front of me in my math class had already read "Holes!"
