Summary: The courage to keep going.
Review: This book confirmed something that I've felt all along: Hillary and Bill Clinton are true and tireless public servants. On an instinctual level, I always liked the Clintons despite the fact that media coverage of them seemed to dwell inordinately on false accusations leveled at them. Despite a constant onslaught of attacks from their political opponents during eight very successful years in the White House, the Clintons devoted themselves to doing as much good for as many people possible.

Though there are a few dryer moments where Senator Clinton delves into great detail about her travels as First Lady, Whitewater, or healthcare issues, the overall tone of the book is personal, inviting, and generous. It was as if a friend of mine had grown up to become a First Lady and a Senator and wanted to share the marvel of it without glossing over her personal challenges or darker moments during the journey. The book is filled with events in the lives of a President and First Lady, but despite the power of their positions, I soon felt so connected to the Clintons that I started to think and talk about them as Hillary and Bill. One paragraph about Hillary's response to people asking why she is still married to Bill is poignant, powerful, and unforgettable.

I cannot remember the last time I read anything that made me feel excited about serving one's country in the political realm. I learned that Hillary's competence in the world of law and politics did not spring up overnight, but grew from a long dedication to public service and an unwavering commitment to issues such as healthcare and women's rights. Hilary's insights are often very simple, with a profound universal appeal: "One of the most important lessons I learned during my years as First Lady was how dependent the affairs of state and the policies of nations are on the personal relationships among leaders. Even ideologically opposed countries can reach agreements and forge alliances if their leaders know and trust one another. But this sort of diplomacy requires constant nurturing and informal dialogue among the principals, which is one reason why the President, vice President and I took frequent trips overseas."

As you read this book, you will travel with Hillary through an awe-inspiring story that includes Watergate, marriage, Whitewater, parenting, Africa, the Middle East, Washington DC, and friendships, to name a few. If Hillary's story is one of successes, it is even more a story of courage and persistence through the personal choices she has made. One of the most enduring messages in the book comes from what Hilary tells us Nelson Mandela said to her and her husband: "the greatest glory of living lies not in never falling, but in rising every time you fall."

This is a book about going for excellence in one's life. If you are interested in nurturing excellence in your life as well as in the lives of those around you, I recommend another brilliant book: "WORKING ON YOURSELF DOESN'T WORK," by Ariel and Shya Kane. In a book written simply from the heart, the Kanes make the practice of living a full and rewarding life accessible to everyone.

Summary: Y.A.W.N.
Review: I wanted to like this book. I *really* wanted to. And I tried. I struggled through the first 75 pages, and then even skipped ahead to the Monica stuff (page 439) in a desperate effort to find something readable. Nope.

Okay, this isn't a spy novel or my precious Star Trek, but I expected at least *some* daring writing. Not a word. In fact, the only three bright spots I noticed were: 1) The photos, 2) A few pages describing getting Chelsea to Stanford (pages 419-421), and 3) Five paragraphs on page 438 about the "swimsuit photo." Beyond that, I wouldn't know, because that's about all I read.

The Acknowledgements are 6 pages long, and the Index is 28 pages! I'm not sure what I was expecting from this book, but I'm pretty sure "deadly" wasn't it. Sorry, Hillary.

Summary: This Is Neither Living or History
Review: It is doubtful that Ms. Clinton spent much time putting pen to paper on this work, however she has willing and talented associates who will and who did. The problem with a book ostensibly written by someone as controversial as she is, is that it will beg off anything truly controversial and spend it's time instead in spinning the events of her life as she would like them reported for future campaigns. This book is nothing more than a puff piece of politcal advertising and if you are a Hillary fan, you will probably enjoy it. If not. save your money.

Summary: Don't Expect Any Bombshells
Review: I really don't understand why there are so many complaints about this book. It's about what I expect from a woman in her position. She mentions Vince Foster and Paula Jones frequently and gives her own version of events. At the same time she damns Dick Morris with faint praise.

LIVING HISTORY is thick enough to be considered a legitimate book. It is also padded with numerous photos which will please Hillary's fans. The one thing you won't find is any bombshells.

Summary: I Knew Hillary When We Were Children Together
Review: I cannot begin to express how much The Dipper's heart was warmed as I read through my dear childhood friend Hillary Rodham Clinton's new book entitled "Living History". In fact, it was Hillary who gave me the nickname of "The Dipper". We used to sit out back her family's home when were about twelve and count the stars and talk about making other peoples' lives better through being helpful and kind. I always liked the constellation Ursa Major and Hillary said I always looked like a big, cuddly bear so she named me "The Dipper" with a sweet 'tee-hee'. I was heartened to see that her hard work and cheerful attitude in 7th Grade English class paid off handsomely for her as the quality of the writing in "Living History" is top-notch. It was most enjoyable for me to see how such a sweet girl turned out to be such an upstanding and successful human being and citizen. As I read this book, however, I was saddened to see that our childhood exploits were not included. Of course, the veracity of all the above is questionable just like any of the fiction in this marginal excuse for an autobiography and a life. Buy it if you are rich, profoundly oblivious to reality, and need kindling wood for your expensive fireplace. Oh, by the way, my nickname really is The Dipper.

Summary: Hillary For President
Review: This wonderful book that I could hardly put down only increased my admiration for this unique woman. Despite President Clinton's errors of judgement he was one of the finest presidents this country will ever see and Hillary did more for this country than any first lady I've ever heard of except maybe Eleanor Roosevelt. The Clinton's were one of the hardest working couples you will ever see working in public office and it is truly saddening that this country did not appreciate the good they accomplished. But then most people don't focus on the positive, only on the negative. Anyway I would recommend this book to anyone who is interested in the life of a hard working woman!

Summary: GREAT BOOK, BETTER REVIEWS
Review: As much as I enjoyed reading the book, I was far more amused and entertained by the "reviews" on this site. Many of them read like accounts of fever dreams by the most wacko of the right-wing fringe. If any of these vermin had, have or will ever accomplish as much good in their useless lives as Hillary Clinton does in one day of hers, they might--MIGHT--be entitled to their malevolent opinions. I would suggest taht, for a truly good time, they curl up with Ann Coulter's latest fiction TREASON, and play with themselves.

Summary: What a woman
Review: I've admired Hillary ever since she came into the public eye. After reading this book, I admire her even more. She is a great role model - kind, caring, forgiving, yet tough as nails when needed. She is one of those rare people who actually live their religion instead of talking about it and telling other people how to live their lives. Love the woman, loved the book.

Summary: Hillary Rocks the USA!
Review: Thoughtful, honest, funny at times and very interesting. A good book from a much misunderstood first lady. Read it and form your own opinions instead of letting some talking head think for you.
