Rating: Summary: inspirational Review: I read the book and I enjoyed it. It is a story of her life, with a little background on her family, and how she came to be where she is now. She grew up with a strong christian belief and has worked tirelessly all her life to help people. She worked hard for women and children's rights, health care, better working conditions, and the betternment of our country. Eleanor Roosevelt was one of her role models. She was a true partner in her marriage with Bill and he valued her opinions. She was (according to another book written) valedictorian of the first college she went to, although she just says that she was asked to give the speech at her graduation. She is not a braggart. She admits when she makes mistakes and takes the blame. In the book you learn when she meets Bill and the course of their lives. You learn of the ups and downs in their political battles. She is a very loving and caring mother. You hear about her trips abroad, many with Chelsea, and her fight for women's rights throughout the world. You learn about the Monica Lewinsky matter and how hurt she was when she found out it was true. She made the decision that life was better with Bill than without him, as many women and men have done. They started a conversation thirty years ago and it is still going on, as she said. You learn about her own campaign race for the senate. She is a lady throughout this book. You don't get the gutter tripe that a lot of other opposing books contain, that have been written lately, which, in itself, speaks volumes. I have much admiration for her and much contempt for those who have told the lies about her. The lies have hurt everyone and our country and now we are all paying for them.
Rating: Summary: Intersting Political and Historical Biography Review: Do not read this book unless you're interested in politics, and as the title reveals, history. The book is very interesting in that Clinton has lived through some interesting historical times given the fact that she attended college during the 60s and has traveled the world and met very interesting people in her role as the first lady. Do not read this if you are in to Star or The Enquirer. You aren't going to hear a lot about Monica Lewinsky. Only enough to satisfy reader's desire that it be mentioned. This is a very interesting political and historical novel. Nothing to gossip about.
Rating: Summary: A Viewpoint NOT from the Clinton-haters Review: Ms. Clinton's account is full of insightful and perceptive facts, observations, and analysis. It's interesting to read the story of how two people met, grew together, and became politicians even though they just wanted to work for the american public interest, not just the interests of the elites of the fossil-fuel industry, or those of insurance companies. It's sad the negative reviews of this book still mostly come from Clinton-bashers and haters of this woman who prevailed so much in the Clinton-presidency years that the congress was unable to focus on issues like preventing terrorism and instead focused on undermining the Clinton presidency. I see their are reviews against this book that say it was Hillary who kept America from fighting terrorism, what gives?? President Clinton bombed and missed Osama Bin Laden in 1998. Will these enemies of the public interest prevail and keep this book down as they hope?
Rating: Summary: an autography of great woman Review: Some ... ultra conservatives criticizes this book is intented for her future presidency... well, I think she should come out and she has my vote.. she is excellent woman and excellent first lady. It took courage to stand up to get to her position and surely deserves jealousy from right wing failures.
Rating: Summary: Fresh and exhilarating Review: This book is an extremely enlightening book about America. First, historically. It gives an inside view of nearly twenty years of American history from the point of view of those who want to make the USA more humane, more dynamic and more influential. How can the USA assume their international role ? How can they set an example to the world ? Can the result of the 2000 presidential election be such an example when the candidate who had most votes was defeated, and when the count and recount of ballots was stopped by the Supreme Court thus rejecting into oblivion the votes of a great number of citizens ? Is that democracy ? How can the USA influence the evolution of the world towards more democracy and less war, more human rights and particularly more women's rights and less injustice, more sharing of the results of human work and less selfishness, more environmental protection and respect and less reckless exploitation of human resources and natural riches ? The answer is in one simple idea : It takes a village ... The USA must bring everyone together to fight for progress and development. This is hard and it requires a good knowledge of the world, a good knowledge of the differences between peoples and countries and cultures, a fair and passionate effort to bring together different groups beyond their differences on common objectives : democracy, a sharing vision of market economy, equal rights for everyone in spite of cultural, sexual, religious, philosophical and economic differences. This is hard, this is difficult, this requires a lot of humane compassion and openminded understanding. Second, philosophically. Ms Clinton sets her inspiration in line with the deep humanistic approach of life represented by Emerson, Whitman and many others in America over the last two centuries, but also in line with thinkers from all over the world. She seems yet to have a slight difficulty in grasping the progressive thinking of the European tradition that goes back to the Ancient Greeks like Socrates and Aristotle. She seems to lack some understanding of all the long evolution of Christian thinking in Europe in the Dark Ages, when religious thinking was widely open to human suffering and the human desire to build the New Jerusalem on earth. But she has compassion, she has education, she has the ability to see the perspective of human history even if she is too narrowly closed up in two centuries of American history. Third, culturally. This is probably the best aspect of the book : her understanding that in each country culture is the essential element to define the country's approach to the world, the people's way of thinking and imagining the future. She does not seem, though, to know enough about the cultures of all countries and peoples in the world. It is fine and dandy to say that Nelson Mandela's forgiving policy is admirable. It is a lot more important to see that it is the resurgence of very old African ideas that are able to span history over the five centuries of European colonialization. Nelson Mandela recaptures the old traditional approach to the world that says that African society is entirely open to the outside world, to welcoming and assimilating outsiders and yet fully respect their differences. Nelson Mandela goes back to Bantu or Zulu tradition, the very tradition that made colonialization possible. Something though has changed in the world and Ms Clinton fails to see it : the Christian, western world is no longer dominant, even if they have the economic and military power to impose their views. The Christian western world is today only one section of the world and the other sections have te be taken into account and considered as equal to this very Christian western section. She still has to learn something about the world, even if she is a few light years ahead of the conservative and fundamentalistic approach of the present majority of the Republican Party who have completely forgotten Lincoln and the historical role he played in changing the face of the world. This book is a must on anyone's reading list who wants to understand what is happening in the world, even if the book does not contain all answers. Can any book do ? She represents the future of the USA, at least for the rest of the world. Dr Jacques COULARDEAU, University of Perpignan
Rating: Summary: Stick to the Tabloids! Review: To all you readers who said this book is bland or boring you should stick to the tabloids! Were you looking for a mystery? Or perhaps a romance novel? A book for intelligent people who care about this country - just like Hillary Clinton. She has done more and worked harder for women, children etc. So many people I know sit at their desk all day, then go home and watch Survivor or some such drivel. Meanwhile, even from a young age Hillary was involved in the community and fighting for causes she beleived in. How can so many say this is fiction? There are pictures of her throughout her life working for what she believes in.
Rating: Summary: WHAT A IRONY. Review: WHAT A IRONY. I read with interest Hilary Clinton's LIVING HISTORY. But I read with more interest the comments by the readers. Some wrote comments only to prove they are like ardent disciples. Others have shown bitter faces and I wondered why they did. Finally I have found out the reason. First lady is a post of honor where all the honor comes from the President. The post of the President of USA is the most powerful, important and sacred post in the world. When someone fails to keep the honor of that post, I do not need to say what he deserves. A first lady, when she acts "as president" and talks "like president" in the autobiography-like book, can be honored only if the president for whom she acts can be honored. It needs no telling how the people inside and outside USA hate that man. When the readers go through her book they in fact express their mind for that man. Hillary should have been more intelligent before she decided to write this book. I have seen the Indian readers to be more 'critical'. Being an Indian myself it is not difficult for me to understand the reason. In our country the wife is always held responsible for immoral relation of husband with other women. People think, a husband can never act immorally if the wife performs her duties. Naturally they held Hillary responsible for everything the ex-president did. When they find such a wife to tell such big talks like the president they feel hilarious. If it was a fiction probably no one would comment nothing other than 'good/ monotonous/ interesting' etc. It is an autobiography where a first lady, who so miserably failed in her duty, pretends and talks like the president. Is there any reason why the readers would spare her ? Hilary's book could turn to be a great book in case she would take the responsibility or the blame for not guiding the president in the proper way. Probably there were reasons why she failed. Probably she thought too selfishly, probably she thought of greater interest of the Americans or of the world. Or probably there was absolutely no reason excepting that she did not take the case seriously. Even the last case could have been acceptable to the readers because 'to err is human'. In such case the book could have been a media through which Hilary could get a chance to clear her conscience. But instead she hired a number of journalists who saw everything from the angle of the president of USA and express through the mouth of the first lady. However, big sale does not make a book great, even though meager sale indicates inferiority. What is noteworthy is, in this world many writers have written many worthless books and the readers have commented "Monotonous, non-interesting" etc. The writers have not been "blessed" with personal abuse. As a great exception Hilary has got it. Reason ? If she can realize the reason, that will be reflected in her actions and then, she will have people's appreciation in the coming days. In case she writes any book in future, I shall request her to write by herself and not by hired men. Sremoti Ramayani Debi Narendrapur. Kolkata. have

While screwing a young woman i realized my wife had written a book! now people say that she has commited Wite Collar crime but i do not belive that! maybe thats because i dont know what White Collar Crime is!
Rating: Summary: Excellent Fiction Review: This book belongs in the FICTION section! It is beyond belief that Hillary did not know what was going on LONG before she says she "found out". The book is nothing more than a political tool generated as a stepping stone toward her coveted goal of gaining the Presidency of the United States. God help us all if she attains that goal!
Rating: Summary: The Launch of a Presidential Campaign Review: This book has one purpose: to spin every negative event during her husband's presidency so that when she runs for the Oval Office she can claim that all has been addressed in the book, it is old news, and it is time to move on. It earns both stars for accomplishing this purpose masterfully. The substance of the book is otherwise pure bilge. One would have to believe the earth was flat and the moon was made of cheese to be gullible enough to think (a) this book provides credible insights, and (b) Hillary actually wrote the book.
