Rating: Summary: CORNUCOPIA OF TRIVIA Review: This outpouring from the eight years of The First Lady sounds so typical of the American woman that Hillary might as well be on a US coin or the US flag. For those who expected a kiss and tell all story-How foolish! Does any American woman want to expose her warts and blackheads? The book amply demonstrates her trial by fire and shines with the brilliant metal she is made of. No wonder her enemies are digging out the dirty tricks manual to stop her from becoming the first lady president of this bewildered country.
Rating: Summary: Hillary's Republican Roots Blooms Into A Democratic Flower! Review: Whether you love her or hate her, Hillary Rodham Clinton catches your interests as you read her chronicle. "Living History," and did not disappoint me as a book outlining her beliefs or confessing her tribulations. I read many volumes on the 'Contradicting Clintons' often wondering what is the real truth, and when will we learn the full Shakespearian trappings of control. How will history separate the fairy-tales of the 1990's Camelot creating spin from rumors and causing dangers of sightless ambitions of moral apathy among the citizens? Some critics say she did not write the book, but I see her name on it! Some political analysts claim the manuscript is made of selective memories, if so they are still recollections! And the Right Wing nay Sayers claiming the book will not fly were not exactly correct, because this tome soared on Presidential Seal Wings and no one can refute it! The book was simple to read and your curiosity wants to hear more as she tells her yarn of contrite contradictions. The negations do not stop there but actually twitch with her Father's Republican roots of convincing her to become a "Goldwater Gal," in her teens along with being a straight "A" student. It continues by her choosing a non-politically correct sexual segregated Wellesley College certainly not an all-inclusive institution by any means. Plus revealing a short-lived Love Child lifestyle at Yale whose first legal experience was working on the Watergate Hearings. All the while following her husband's elusive imaginings back to his political spawning and sparring grounds of Arkansas now forgotten in the gleam of New York. As Hillary adapted and reacted taking on career and motherhood in the running and washing of white waters cattle futures grounding her own reputation to be in doubt for relying on her husband's political clout. Yet, she prospers and survives never backing down, remaining steadfastly silent when she could shout, and still remaining a public servant in the face of public inquiry, innuendo and anger plus winning elections in a big way. Moreover, it takes brass to try and change health care in one year. As well as the smarts to admit its breakdown due to your own lack of understanding the process in the first place. Clearly, changing minds with just presidential posturing seldom results in success. She shows in this book she has learned from such failure and will be better prepared next time a challenge like that becomes her undertaking. I challenge anyone to remain unwavering in the public eye and keep his or her heads in the media fish bowl. Concurrently, combining with a dutiful special prosecutor' privacy intrusions engulfing her husband, herself and friends. It is evident; only Hillary kept her head as others all were losing theirs over fallen trousers of trickle down immorality bringing new headlines each day. The only real irregularities I saw in the book were her wonderful memory being challenge and compared to her. "I Do Not Recalls," under oath. But no charges were ever filed in the end and that is all that really matters. Hillary's has become a full-blown mature woman reckoning from First Lady, to senator, and yes, presidential timber to come. It takes fortitude to walk next to a husband ridiculing and violating mutual vows in public, but it takes chutzpah to work through it, stay together, and write about it too. Here is something the books made me think of and for her many critics to ponder. There is no question Hillary Rodham Clinton has made mistakes in life, but who hasn't? There is no question she has not been totally forthright about everything in her life, but who has? Still, there is no question her 8 years as First Lady during times of real power trials, political perils and unpopular actions and civic reactions is great presidential practice that only ex-presidents have come to know. Add 4 or 6 years of senatorial skills and I simply find no man in today's American political arena with such political familiarity except Al Gore and Dan Quayle? Both candidates preferring to give up and drop out whether to stick it out, unlike senator Hillary Rodham Clinton. I came away thinking, there are only three things true about Hillary Rodham Clinton from all I ever read. Condemn her and she grows stronger, underestimate her and it is your mistake, and whether you want to admit it or not she is a strong candidate to become the first woman president of the United States. Sorry all political experts, but Hillary has proven her political mettle to have just as much guts and grits as any man in politics. Those kinds of ordeals whether of her own making or choosing form character in the face of such adversities. And this type determination usually out last all competitors for authority. So I felt the hardback was worth a read no matter what others tried to say. Besides her own buds of Democratic flowers seeded even more Republican roots in the halls of congressional power, so why are all the biased evaluators complaining about or afraid of anyway? President Hillary Rodham Clinton, you betcha, and they should be, because this woman is ready for the Presidency more than any other Democratic candidate today!
Rating: Summary: Interesting at the least. Review: Interesting reading to say the least. Obviously she considered the Presidency a dual position which she graciously shared with her husband. She is obviously very smart and will be the first to tell you so. The book is also interesting as to what has been left out. Although she apparently doesn't consider it so, her term as first lady of Arkansas was a turbulent one, however she skims over that Her disgust with her husband over the Monica incident stems, it seems, not so much over the fact that he had violated his vows to her, but that he had seemingly ruined the partnership they had as co-presidents. No wonder she gulped for air. She also seems to breeze through the Impeachment too quickly. No doubt this is but a forerunner to her announcing her own intention to "continue" her Presidency. I would still vote for her however over what the Republicans have to offer us.
Rating: Summary: I'll vote for her when she runs for President! Review: Hillary Clinton comes across as a thoroughly engaged person, not afraid to be herself, no matter what is thrown in her face. She articulates for all of us what it was like to come of age in the 60's. I loved her overview of the turbulent events that led to her life as a Public Servant. Certainly, she succeeds in combining a serious career with a strong family, something that must thoroughly gall her "family values" detractors. I can only admire her willingness to stay with Bill Clinton, and to stand up for the Constitution. How soon we forget the Republicans with an agenda who were willing to take down the Constitution over a matter that should have stayed between a husband and a wife. Those who doubt the "Right Wing Conspiracy Theory" should read David Brock's BLINDED BY THE RIGHT for an expose of The Arkansas Project. Most of all, Hillary's story was about how one woman picked herself up and kept going, in spite of it all. I say HURRAH for her courage, and I'll vote for her when she runs for President! Reading her book has strengthened my resolve to Stand Up and Speak 0ut. I have signed on for Grass Roots Activism for 2004, to be sure that we preserve and protect the hard-won freedoms of the last three decades. Women's Rights, Children's Rights, Civil Rights, Laborer's Rights, and now Constitutional Rights have never been more threatened. Hillary Clinton addresses these issues with clear insight, as a woman, an astute politician, and as one who truly CARES what happens to America. I highly recommend her book.
Rating: Summary: Living History by Hillary Clinton Review: This work is good reading for students in the later part of high school and the first years of college. The writing style is appropriate in terms of sentence structure, grammar and content. For years to come, historians will study this period of American history. The work is important because it documents Mrs. Clinton's recitation of events for posterity. The pictures of Mrs. Clinton in her youth are memorable. In addition, the presentation of her parents in the photos gives the work added value because it traverses the previous generation. Occasionally, there are important personal recollections and anecdotes. For instance, the author recants an experience in China; wherein, the government did not allow her to present a speech. There is a memorable recitation of the opening of a DC shelter in the mid-1990s. The accompanying anecdotes and pictures add value to the presentation. The work is personable. Mrs. Clinton is perhaps the only first lady with a law degree. For this reason alone, her work distinguishes from others. I believe that the contribution to the health care debate helped to accelerate the alternative medicinal area , as well as the technology transfer from military to the consumer medical technologies and applications. The previous administration had some positive contributions in Europe, the Middle East, Northern Ireland and Africa. I think these areas deserve more attention. The mid-1990s and beyond brought about revolutionary changes in the computer technology. These changes helped to create higher productivity and new job categories. The trend will continue and accelerate. The previous administration will be ranked by historians. That ranking could be anywhere from Above Average or better. The process of an historical ranking will create much discussion, comparison and a final judgment by historians and posterity. That judgment is unknown from today's perspective. Historians will evaluate a number of administrations comparatively . i.e. The Roosevelts,Kennedy, Reagan, Clinton and perhaps the dual Bush Presidencies. President Carter's work in the Middle East may create much discussion for posterity. Then again, the Reagan Presidency will be examined in the period leading up to the conclusion of Cold War hostilities and the collapse of the Berlin Wall. No-one will be able to predict the outcome of these rankings from today's information, knowledge or perspective. Mrs. Clinton's work may help historians to understand the dynamics of the Clinton era because this rendition speaks to the current generation. Future historians may compare the writings of famous first ladies in an effort to arrive at a comprehensive perspective on the presidential families. The Clinton years began with a recovering economy and evolved into a period of sustained growth. Lastly, the work helps to document Presidential experiences after the formal end of the Cold War and the reconstitution of the Soviet empire into its constituent republics. The descriptions of specific personal encounters with the new President Yeltsin add considerable historical interest to the overall presentation.
Rating: Summary: On one topic of her "Living History" Review: The space allocated for review of such a such large book seems inadequate. So I take this opportunity to write on certain issue only. In the "Living History" (LH), by my consideration Clinton Monika Louinsky incident (henceforth mentioned as Clin-Moni incident) is by far the most important issue and I shall review this one only. In the book it seems, at long last Mrs. Hillary has disclosed the fact that we had known long ago. This indicates for one reason or the other she lied earlier. Well, lying for a noble cause may be thousand times better than telling the truth.
Earlier also when she endeavored to present different account of the 'Clin-Moni' incident, any intelligent child could guess the fact. In LH Mrs. Clinton mentioned the Clin-Moni incident as a "challenge". Definitely it was and naturally people are interested to know how she faced it. There should be little doubt that the President of USA is the most important person in this world. Being his wife the first lady, by all means holds tremendous potentiality. Even with all the responsibilities a President needs all that a normal man might need. If Mrs. Hillary could efficiently play her role as wife, the ex-President could not find a scope to entangle with Monika. That was her "number one failure". A 'dear' wife can easily read her husband. Mrs. Hillary could not trace anything till the Clin-Moni incident reached the public. This is her "number two failure". For argument's sake one may say, the ex-President was innocent and Monika allured her. Yes, this was quite possible for a women of Monika's status. But is it natural for a person holding the post of US-President to fall prey to such allurement ? On the other hand, when a man of his status invites a woman like her, can she disagree ? So, Mr. Clinton was responsible for the Clin-Moni incident. And if one wants to accuse a second person she is his wife. Mrs. Hilary says 'Impeachment was not the solution'. I wonder how a lady with that qualification and education can opine like that, when we all know, impeachment was the best solution. When all the powers to directly guide or misguide a vast country like USA and indirectly the entire world are concentrated in the hand of a single person, definitely there is need for measures to keep him in the right track. And the American electorates have intelligently kept that provision in 'impeachment'. There is no 'shame' to use it where applicable. Now, Mrs. Hillary says, it ('Clin-Moni' incident) was a challenge for her and after much thought she decided to uphold him. Let us analyze the affects of her 'great' decision on herself, the US-President, US society and on the world outside USA. The moment Monika disclosed the 'Clin-Moni' incident, the entire world believed her, even though the ex-president disagreed and Mrs. Hillary gave support. This is her "number three failure". The common people of this world have got the intelligence to recognize what is true and what is not. What would happen if Mrs. Hillary spoke the truth at that time ? Mr. Clinton would have been impeached. What would be the affects of such impeachment ? As for Mrs. Hillary, she would lose the privileges of first lady for the remaining tenure of the president. What about Mr. Clinton ? He would realize how a man in that post should behave. What could be the reaction of common US citizens ? They would know, USA does not spare 'lying and immoral acts' of a man even if he is in that position. That would make them feel proud of their great country. What about the future presidents of USA ? They would know how to shape up their lives for achieving that post. What about the world outside USA ? They already felt ashamed to know the activities of a man in the post of US president. If impeached, they would be happy to know about justice in USA. They had to retain great honor for the country. When they saw him to have been treated as 'innocent' mostly due to his wife's testimony, could they retain honor for that country ? One of the greatest problems that USA is facing now originates due to 'one special tendency' of the in the armed forces. Several times the Japanese have shown dissatisfaction over their activities. For the same reason the country cannot take the risk of signing the treaty of the International Court, in spite of ever increasing accusations from other countries. The soldiers cannot be blamed, they have been taught to live like that. Their parents, over-indulged in earning money did not find time to take proper care. Naturally they suffered from guilty-consciousness and probably allowed 'free-mixing' as gratification or bonus. (Knowing fully well that child marriage is harmful for the society, they retained the negative affects of child marriage without marriage. One of the principal reason for which the various countries are skeptical about the culture of USA lies in free-sex). Clinton's impeachment for such an act could act as an expected teaching for the society and could enormous benefit for USA. And in case she could show that courage, probably Mrs. Hillary could have been 'glorified' in the eyes of the world for taking the 'right' step. And by this time her name would have been discussed as President candidate. It is sad that the world was not blessed with the positive aspects. Why ? Because the first-lady placed her personal gains over all others. This is her "final failure" that revealed her nature. Now when she says, 'it was a challenge' and when she feels satisfied 'to have faced it properly' the only thing the common men can do is to laugh and feel pity. I have graded her book it as "five star" only because I want more readers to go through and find out how "efficiently" she could handle crucial issues and incidents during her tenure as first-lady. Rating: Summary: Lessons to be Learned Review: I found "Living History" to be a deeply personal, courageous and inspirational recounting of the Clinton White House years. The most important lesson for us all in American politics and media is that we must focus on issues of importance, nationally and internationally. Hillary demonstrated amazing strength of character to be able to focus on important agenda while enduring the most intense, invasive, scrutiny of her family's most private personal life. I especially appreciated the book's focus on women's issues and insights on women throughout the world and the wives of world leaders.
Rating: Summary: Why not run for President? Review: She is a great lawyer, fine first lady, accomplished senator and why not the next president? Name any other woman that is more qualified. We have a movie star(Reagan), a crook (Nixon) and a playboy (Kennedy)... for President. Hilary is certainly more qualified than all of them. In addition, there was never a woman president in US history. If she can make the positive things out of what she went through in her life, she can definitely handle 1. Israel Palestine conflict, 2. N. Korea, 3. Russia.... Hilary, run for it. You will have my vote. You are 100% better than Joe Lieberman and others....
Rating: Summary: This is a comedy,,,,right???? Review: The book is laughable! Actually fun to read if you like fiction. This is one scary lady. ... Does she really think that we believe what she wrote,,,,if she wrote it at all. Oh Mrs. C,,,,,,you are one scary women. ...
Rating: Summary: Extraordinary History Review: If you are thinking that this book is fully of gory details of Flowers, Jones and Lewinsky you will be disappointed. This "history" of Senator Clinton is inspiring, from her early years growing up, meeting Bill, having Chelsea, being the governors wife and the president's wife and her campaign and win to be NY State Senator. She talks about her family life and her devotion to her daughter and her keeping her out of the public eye. Whether you believe her political life is completely up to the individual but her family life is endearing and honest. She cares about family, children, health care and being I'm a New Yorker, I truly believe she is working to help New Yorkers. Read this book with an open mind. You might get more out of it than what you thought you would.
