Summary: Hi...I'd like your vote
Review: This ghost-written book is nothing more than an attempt to humanize the "beloved" Senator in anticipation of her run for the presidency.

The actual book, along with a carefully crafted media-blitz, is designed to generate sympathy and support for a woman - "done wrong" - who is overcoming the odds of the vast right wing conspiracy. It has been written to galvanize her supporters, but most likely will also inspire her detractors.

The writing style is just fine. In form, the book is fine; in substance, there is much to be desired. As revisionist history, it is another noble effort on behalf of the Senator from New York to re-make herself.

Be afraid.....be very afraid. This book is yet another reason why the 22nd amendment should also be extended to spouses.

Summary: Remarkable "Reviews"
Review: This was a pretty interesting read. There weren't any startling revelations, but her take on things was interesting. The most interesting thing, however, are the "reviews" of the book by "customers" of Amazon. It seems A) Obviously, none of these people read the book. B) These people didn't pay attention if they ever attended "English" in college, high school, or, (more likely) grades one through eight. The guy who objected to the book's "grammer" was interesting, as were the other "reviews" (which were obviously knee-jerk right wing galvanic reactions). There is indeed something that deeply bothers these people about the Clintons. But the book is "political" in that it avoids talking about some things, but it's worth reading and better than I thought it would be.

Summary: Women & men should read this book
Review: This intellectual book should be read fully and alertly. I am deeply grateful to Hillary for her years of working all over the world, often in very remote places, to bring to public awareness the evil and inhumane treatment of women and children and for her willingness to continue battling for better lives for all women and children. I disagree that the book appears to be ghost written; the text accurately reflects Hillary's speech patterns, her cadence, her extemporaneous language expressions, her tone and sincerity. In the chapters that deal with Bill's indiscretions, I could feel her acute pain and sadness.

Summary: Pulp history
Review: Objectively speaking on the book, not political ideals, this is disappointing. While the Lewinsky affair is included to sell copies, it tells you nothing new and white washes the details. As for her policy take, it really is vague and goes out of it's way to not make a definite stand on anything.

Summary: Very Interesting
Review: [...] This is an extremely interesting book by an incredibly interesting person. It's a good read if you want to know about what goes on in the inside.

Should she be president? I'm certainly not sure yet, but the concervative [people] writing non-reviews would only want you to hear their side of history. Powell, the liar, in my opinion, who says that letting corporations own all the radio/tv/and newspapers in a market, is changing those rules for the "benefit" of the American people, is like these other people who are sewing up the peoples' voices. Look at the complete [person], in my opinion, Michael Savage, who, again in my constitutionally protected opinion, [...] he wants to shut off the websites of people who have a different take on his views. When it comes to conservatives, their motto isn't "the more the merrier."

Anne [...] Coulter wrote her version, now hear it from the horse's mouth.

[...] Buy this Book!

Summary: A writer, Hillary is not...
Review: I have to start off by saying that Hillary is a great woman, with many strengths and a very strong knowledge of politics. I want to be her when I "grow up". However, I am in the mid 50s page wise in the book and i honestly am sort of turned off by how much political "mumbo jumbo" there is in this book. I wouldn't call it so much a memoir, as it mostly recalls political happenings and Hillary's connection and feelings towards these events. It is far from being personable and that makes me feel sort of disappointed and I fear that I will be saving this book for a later date. It just has not lived up to what I thought it would be and is more of a chore to read. I want to go on the record saying that I hope Hillary does have her day in the White House as president and I want her to know that I will support her all the way. However, if she writes a follow up to this book, I will be more hesitant to run out and buy it.

Summary: Z-z-z-z-z-z-z
Review: I read a lot of political books; but, admit it would probably take a biography of someone who "made" history to interest me (Hillary clearly lacks in that area). I tried to read this book every night for a week....and, just couldn't get through it. I even tried skipping to chapters that I thought might interest me; but, the book is just plain BORING! Sorry, but all I can say is Z-z-z-z-z-z....

Summary: A lot of truth, some fiction, but all in all, a good read.
Review: In reading any autobiography or memoir one has to have some grains of salt handy. It is simple human nature to present one's own life in the best possible light and few such books escape this trap. This is especially true when the book in question is written by someone who is still a public figure, especially if that someone is likely to face the voters in some future contest. I am quite sure that Senator Clinton is as guilty of this as anyone else. I am also sure however that she has not presented us with as big a work of fiction as some reviewers would have us believe.

On the plus side, this book offers the reader a look into at least some of the Clinton's private lives. We get to hear about the paint ball birthday party at Camp David, the First Parents trip to California to help Chelsea move into her new dorm room, and the Socks vs. Buddy saga. We find out that during their birthing class before Chelsea was born someone had told Bill to take a bag of ice to the hospital for Hillary to hold in her mouth. When the mother to be announced it was time, she noticed a state trooper loading a 39-gallon bag of ice in the trunk. Sounds like a lot of first time fathers to me.

On the negative side, one has to wonder about other allegations of Bill's philandering besides the story of Monica Lewinsky. Except for those stories that have been proven to be baseless, none were mentioned. Hillary does admit that she seriously thought about divorce after he admitted the fling with Lewinsky and claims that in the end she decided she still loved him. That might well be true. I can't speak for the Senator, but I must admit that there is a lingering doubt, in my mind at least.

Another problem was the writing style. It was a little like a speech at times and could also be a little preachy. It was good however to hear her thoughts on Kenneth Starr. Obviously she would not speak kindly of him but as a lawyer she was able to point out in clear detail her objections to his tactics. It was also good to find out a little about her friends and family. Her early life in Chicago and her time as a, "Goldwater girl." The change in her attitudes as she grew up is a fascinating journey as is her courtship with Bill Clinton. My wife fell in love with my eyes; Hillary fell in love with Bill's hands. I also found that Hillary and I share the Methodist faith and John Wesley's principles have guided us both in many of our beliefs.

Finally, I personally agree with Hillary Clinton on many issues and that may have tainted my view of this book. However, I also disagree with her on some issues so maybe I can be fairly objective. The best reason to read this book has nothing to do with one's politics. Like her or hate her, Hillary Clinton has been, and is a force in American politics and this book at the very least sheds a little bit of light on where she has been and where she is coming from.

Summary: Finally, politics worth reading about
Review: As the economy rests on shakey ground, as we watch George Bush try to figure out where Saddam put those pesky Weapons of Mass Destruction that we spent billions trying to protect ourselves from, as we continue to hunt for Osama bin Laden, it is refreshing to read the biography of someone who has a political philosophy rather than a right wing agenda.
Senator Clinton charts her moral developement, marks the highpoints on the way to the White House, and then (although no one seems to notice much) explains why Bill Clinton was able to balance the budget, help bring peace to Northern Ireland, keep warlords from taking control of the Balkans, and to build our economy into the envy of the world. All this while the slovenly, carping right-wingers sought to go to any lengths to destroy her husband. She says they 'abused the constitution.' That is putting it mildly.
I only wish there were more. Naturally, the right-wingers are saying the book 'has little that is new.' Of course, some of us like reading about economic growth, low unemployment, and the leaders who helped bring us these benefits. Some of us like understanding what went right and what went wrong in the 1990s. Sadly, when I put the book down, I get to see what is going wrong under the current man in the White House and with the current Democratic leadership in the Congress.
Hillary's book reminds me why I grew up loving politics. A wonderful book for those who want to understand the benefits and pitfalls of a life devoted to public service.
