Rating: Summary: God bless Hillary Review: This book is a ray of truth amongst the onslaught of lies, hatred and propaganda of the right wing facists who have infested the weak minds of our beloved country. There is a battle going on between good and evil. Thank God there are saints like Hillary who are willing to stand up to the vicious elements who are destroying our country.
Rating: Summary: The lying continues... Review: How ANYONE can read this pile of drivel and keep a straight face is beyond me. Lie, spin, twist and shine seem to be the mode of writing that this GROUP of writers used. I would VERY interested to read the FACTUAL account of what happened during the 8 year embarrassment in the White House. How about the TRUTH behind Vince Foster? White Water? File-gate? Paula Jones? Travelgate? Abuse of the Secret Service agents? Pardon-gate? Seeing the world on MY and my FELLOW TAXPAYERS tab??? Th elist goes on infinitly as does her self serving, whiney, "I am a victim" tome which she shold have called "Lying History." I give it one star because I couldn't get a 0 or a negative one.
Rating: Summary: HILLARY TAKES THE HIGH ROAD Review: After looking forward to, and then reading, "Living History", I found myself in the middle of a puzzling dichotomy. Reading Mrs. Clinton's well-constructed prose was a pleasure; I believe she wrote it herself and she manages to keep you interested in matters you may not have been previously so. But about halfway through, I began to notice a pattern. After each episode meeting a new world leader and his spouse, the same kind of remark would follow concerning the world leader's wife: "an elegant, accomplished woman", or "a gifted, intelligent woman", etc. At first I thought she was just trying to advance the importance of the wives of these powerful men (a worthy cause without doubt), but I found myself wanting her to say something bitchy about someone, anyone. That's when I realized I was beginning to fall into the media trap regarding these types of books: just looking for the "dirt" about famous people. After a spate of embarrassment over this, I was glad that what I liked about Hillary all along proved true in her memoir as well--she takes the moral high road and chooses to find the good in people, even her opponents. Only when they played dirty tricks on her and the President do many negative feelings come out, but these are necessary; God knows they endured enough of it while they were in office. Mrs. Clinton herself admits that she is not an exceptionally "open" person; in her position, who can blame her? But overall I greatly enjoyed her insights about Whitewater, the awkward first days in office, her burgeoning friendship with the legendary Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, and the struggle to balance raising Chelsea in a public forum. It is an elegant, thoughtful book, perhaps lacking a little in verve, but certainly not in intelligence and sincerity. In print, as in office, Hillary Rodham Clinton doesn't disappoint and keeps us looking forward to the next volume as well.
Rating: Summary: An interesting documentation of the Clinton Years Review: While Hillary's sometimes maudlin defense and description of her husband's love can alienate the non-dedicated supporters of the Clintons, she provides an interesting and personal documentation of her years in the White House. She includes quaint details of her staff, world leaders, adjustment to public life, and other details connected to being married to the world's leader.
Rating: Summary: Hillary Gets It Review: And she gets it done. This book is a must-read, for any American interested in why the Conservatives hate this woman with such intensity. If you look at the comments here and in the other reviews of this book; and in the Hannity-O'Reilly-Limbaugh-Boortz-Coulter Matrix of Hate, you have to laugh. They WANT to make fun of it, they LOVE to trash and ridicule it, but they are smart enough to realize this only adds intrigue and interest to the average American, so they're torn. If you want to read why they hate her so, if you want a chance to make up your own mind and see for yourself what all the fuss is about, buy and read this book. You will get a spellbinding story that goes deep into one of the most troubled and troubling times in American History. You will get a story about a real American, a woman bigger than life, the first First Lady in history to become a US Senator, Mother of the Year in Arkansas, and maybe our President in 2008. You owe it to yourself to talk about this book like someone who's read it.
Rating: Summary: LONG WINDED REDUX Review: The best (and worst) thing about this book is its glossy, heavily airbrushed dust jacket. Otherwise, prepare for a rehash of topics which have already been covered ad nauseum by other authors and by Mrs. Clinton herself in past interviews. The usual suspects are here: Whitewater, travelgate, her disastrous health care coup, suspicions of right wing conspiracy, her dastardly spouse's impeachment and of course (yawn) Monica Lewinsky. Hillary also touches on her childhood, college days, and her wonderful life with Bill - a man of great dignity and self control. Intent on showing her light-hearted side, Mrs. Clinton includes wonderful anecdotes about her life in the White House. Heart warming accounts are included of the Clintons' fireside chats with Markey Post and Steven Spielberg and their roasting of marshmallows on the floor of the Lincoln bedroom. All of this is presented in a brief 575 pages, making it second in verbosity only to lackey Blumenthal's 800-page baloneyfest. Since there is nothing new here or interesting, the reading public would have been better served had Mrs. Clinton just hired a good seamstress to line her pockets. All in all, a self serving revisit to the past with predictable results.
Rating: Summary: No dirt Review: This book has substance and talks about policies and issues rather than dishing dirt. I respect Mrs. Clinton for not getting down in the gutter. Her writing is clear and passionate, and her training as a lawyer is evident in the way she is able to organize and present her material. This is an inside view of the historic events during the Clinton presidency.
Rating: Summary: Book of Historical Significants Review: Upon reading this book I must say I enjoyed it. Nothing especially important in the tabloid department but it was a good solid memoir of the most powerful woman in politics and possibly the world. Hillary is more than just a first lady in the corner dusting off the book shelf. She is a force and a dominate, thinking, opinionated woman. Men and "programed" women hate this fact. This book is a must read for women who are not afraid to step from behind their husbands and think and act on their own. Her early childhood and education is interesting in that education was important and she used it to her advantage. Hillary is not afraid, as most women seem to be, of male power circles. I find it amazing to see women attack her personally for no good reason. Women should be proud of what she has accomplished in a male environment whether you agree or disagree with her ideology. I also bet she handled the "cheating husband" situation just like many other women have around the country and gets no credit for that. It is clear that the "rightwing" hate brigade took a toll on our democracy and put our nation at risk in its failed attempt to dislodge an elected president. The same thing is happening in California as the rightwing attempts to dislodge and elected governor and put in a conservative, corporate, unelected wealthy person against the voters of California. Seems a lot like Florida in 2000. Anyway she has an axe to grind and she tells us how she feels in her memoirs. Many will not agree and some will. Hopefully this first lady will set the tone of how women should be in government. Strong, opinionated, determined, educated, and fearless and not just a trophy on a mans arm or just reciting what "he" told you to say. I know I am being hard on women but after reading many of these "reviews" written by people who have not read the book to help Amazon customers, and to see that many doing the none reading were women is shameful and deserve my comments.
Rating: Summary: Hillary's travel log Review: While reading the book I kept telling my husband "I can't belive she was paid eight million for this" Three quarters of the book is about her world travels as first lady most likely ghosted by her aides. If you are really curiuos about the book after all the publicity, borrow the book from the library. It is not worth the money.
Rating: Summary: I really tried to like this book. Review: I was very disappointed in this book. It seemed to be politically motivated and did not address any of the major issues. Hillary seems to scan over the important stuff giving her stand and move on quickly without really answering any questions. If you want this book, I would wait and pick it up used.
