Rating: Summary: Good history of the Clinton White House Review: I enjoyed reading this book and found some of Hillary's early history interesting. I would recommend this to any person who is really interested in history.
Rating: Summary: In Your Face Freepers! Review: Although I am not a big fan of Hillary, I still enjoyed the book. I see there are many Republicans, who have never read the book, flooding this site with bad reviews. Therefore, I chose to give the book five stars rather than the four stars I was intending to give it to make up for the one star "fake" reviews many fascist conservatives are giving Hillary's book. You see if Jesus came back as a Democrat, Republicans would find a way to bash him too. A NOTE TO ALL: Freerepublic.com is a HATE site where conservatives come to discuss political issues and many of them have come to this site to give Hillary's book some bad reviews. Of course many of them don't read much. They rather just listen to Rush Limbaugh and watch FOX News where the news is always unfair and unbalanced, and decided with a conservative slant. Visit BUZZFLASH.COM for articles and editorials that don't always make it to the mainstream media. Adios!
Rating: Summary: Who is this woman's editor? Review: The book starts out with the run of the mill "I'm a hardy American" line that any person of national repute puts in their memoir. But after that it goes downhill. It is so rough and jumbled. It took me 10 minutes to get through the first 8 pages. Mrs. Clinton jumps back and forth between her life and the life of her parents, providing for confusion. I have read TRUMAN, JOHN ADAMS, Ambrose's biography of Eisenhower, and this book pales in comparison. Maybe it gets better as it goes along, but I know that it will be sitting on my shelf until I get through Charlie Wilson's War and a couple others.Simon & Schuster needs to take a serious look at Mrs. Clinton's editor and fire him/her.
Rating: Summary: Ignore the Conservatives Review: Just ignore the low ratings from the conservatives. They're bitter over the fact that Hillary has in fact written a great book (the conservatives are reviewing this book without reading it). I'm an independent, and I loved this book. Great stuff. I could care less about her or Bill, but it's obvious why Bill was re-elected (and why he would trounce Bush if allowed to ever run again), and a big part of that is Hillary by his side. Good job, Hillary.
Rating: Summary: It's selling, it's selling, and paleocons can't handle it! Review: Hillary speaks truth here, just as she has always done. And her book is flying out of the stores. The best thing about this book is that it has flushed the obsessive Clinton-haters out of the woods and exposed them for the petty little Nazis that they truly are.
Rating: Summary: The truth at last Review: Hillary wants us to believe her! Ok I will. But what is it I am believing? The year prior to Bill's mid night revelation about Monica there was the public admission that he had spent years lying about Jennifer and other women! Not a word form her on any of these. Not a word about the years spent trying to discredit these women by him, her and their staffs. When exactly did you find out about them Hillary and how did you react? We know that you broke down into a tearful rant because you had been betrayed (yet again) and that you stayed with him because you "love" him. Did you stay with him in the face of the other admissions because you love him? Did you go on national TV and inform the country that there was a Vast Right Wing Conspiracy at work because you loved him? Did you organize one of the best run media campaigns to defend him, although he proved to have been lying, because you loved him? How many times has did he violate your trust of him? Tell us again how much you love him, we never heard that before. What do we call it when a spouse 1) denies that their spouse has been lying and cheating on them 2) defends that person even after its revealed beyond doubt that they are cheating on them 3) then continues to publically blame others 4) while saying that they love them and thats why they are staying? A person who does this once we sometimes call foolish, a person who does this as many times as Hillary has obviously done we call co dependant. There are various degrees of co dependancy and to one degree or another most people suffer form it at one time or another. It is clear that Hillary is suffering from a very severe case of it and has been for decades now. Perhaps it stems from the way she was raised to the shock of the big bad world. I dont know and I dont care. What I do care about are the results of such a depedancy and how it affects the person or people that desire to run my country. Severe co dependancy leads to a break down in ones ability to make judgement calls and decissions and is demonstrated by the person doing many of the things Hillary has done over the years, from her involvement in Whitewater, futures investiments, the travel Office, FBI files, Health Care Czarina, taking credit for what Schumer accomplished after 911 to this book. These and the countless unnamed issues she has been involved with have been aimed at protecting the Clinton name and advancing herself to be able to run for president in 2008. A careful reading of Living History is in order, not for what it says but for what it does not say. For what it fails to address, for the way it paints Hillary as victim! A victim of her own making.
Rating: Summary: Lying History Review: This book, besides being a boring regurgitation of mundane and already disclosed events and facts, has some significant problems reconciling the known and published dates and times of those events... Po Hillary and her ghost writers can't get around the simple fact that she is either colossally stupid, naive, and foolish (to have been so completely blindsided by Bill, known serial philanderer and liar) or she is simply lying to cover up the fact that she went along with his indiscretions as a necessary evil because she wanted to stay in a position of power.. hell, it made her 1st lady of Arkansas and America, and got her a Senate seat.. so it's a winning strategy so far. Bottom line is this is just more illustration of the purely opportunistic Clinton family and the games they are willing to play with the American people in order to get into and stay in, POWER, the end all be all for them. Bill would even like to run for president again. ... Don't buy the book, get it at the library and read it, see for yourself.
Rating: Summary: Judge not lest ye be judged Review: I read the book and I thought that it was a good read. I have been reading other peoples remarks on this book and I have one thing to ask.....How would you know what goes on behind closed doors??? Unless your name is Bill, Hillary or Chelsea you wouldn't. It is not for me, you or anyone else to judge this man or his family for what happened behind closed doors. NEWS FLASH people....Bill Clinton is not the only president to have an extra marital affair. Yes, he lied. BUT given the situation I would put money on the fact that ANY of you would too. Not one of us is any better than the other. Appreciate the fact that this man was the best president that this country has had since JFK. If you want to judge Bill Clinton then judge him for the job that he did as president NOT for what he did in the bedroom.
Rating: Summary: Hillary Gets it Right Review: In one of the most compelling, thought-provoking books that I've read this spring, Senator Clinton tells the story of her life, from her perspective--touching upon motherhood, the eight years of the Clinton Presidency, and her decision to enter the limelight as a candidate for the United States Senate. Senator Clinton does not mince words; she describes the difficult periods in her life, accepts personal failure on her part, where such responsibility is due, and makes it a point to focus on the people that truly helped her along the way. Although this book is not meant as a memoir of her Senate career (in its infant stages) it is an account of how one young woman, compelled to make a difference, grew up to live out her dreams. It is an inspiring tale of self-discipline, and an elaborate, impassioned plea for the importance of public life. For anyone wishing to get into the mind of a fascinating woman, I would recommend Senator Clinton's book.
Rating: Summary: Ignore the Hate; History will vindicate Hillary Review: For anyone with an open mind and an interest in the Clinton presidency, I suggest this book. Despite what the spin-machine will tell you, Hillary is open and honest in this autobiography (and unlike many of the reviewers here, I've actually read it). Many believe that this book is nothing but lies, but thoughtful readers of the history of these times must eventually acknowledge that there isn't a shred of evidence which support these wild claims. Certainly, Hillary is a divisive person -- mainly based on her unfair portrail in mainstream and right-wing media. "Living History" doesn't aim to convince the reader to accept the author's idology. Rather, it simply lays out the facts of Clinton's background and her experiences as First Lady. "The politics of personal destruction" reached its peak during Hillary's stay in the White House, and her perspective into how the right-wing media and scandal-creating machines operates is valuable not just as a recent history lesson that most of us missed, but also serves as a warning for the future of politics in America. If you're interested in a historical account of many of the events covered in "Living History" from a another perspective, I recommend "The Clinton Wars" by Sidney Blumenthal. (And despite an unfounded growing tide of opinion to the contrary, both of these works jive together perfectly with facts and evidence.)
