Rating: Summary: Passionate and honest Review: Hillary Clinton is an amazing person. Her memoirs bring together a picture of a strong, independant woman who has forged her way through typically male-dominated professions. She comes across as matter-of-fact and very honest and answers many difficult questions. Her grace in dealing with the many difficult situations she found herself in is inspiring-- she is a wonderful role model!
Rating: Summary: recommended Review: a great and personal revelation from the former first lady. - i highly recommend it.
Rating: Summary: Another great book by this First Lady! History's been made! Review: Hillary Clinton has always been an enigmatic public figure. She was like no other First Lady we knew. She had those who loved her and those who hated her. She discusses btoh her public life and private life from youth to adulthood. This book was very well-written. We can see how her childhood has molded her values today. She discusses his faith and how much it plays a part in her life. Heart wrenching is her remembrance of the sex scandal of which her husband was involved. However, understanding where her heart truly made her humanity more visible to all of us. Her vulnerability showed and we can all feel like she is not larger-than-life as we did before but is just like each and every one of us but with an inner drive that has excelled her in so many of her dreams. This book is a wonderful read. We truly get a different insight on a woman who has been the focus of so much controversy. This time, there's no speculation or hearsay. We hear it straight from her. She tells it straight. This is history in the making. She is living history.
Rating: Summary: Nothing worth reading Review: I just finished the book after spending a good part of my afternoon reading it. I picked it up this morning expecting something phenomenal, with the [amount of money paid] up front, and all the appearances, the interviews, and media hype. My recommendation? Don't even bother. The memoirs are really nothing special and all the juicy parts have already been all over the press. All the rest is just a bland recap of the life of someone who is pretty much uninteresting. Not the worst she could do, but nothing near what should be expected from a popular senator and possible future presidential hopeful.
Rating: Summary: Awesome Book! Review: This book is great! I bought it this morning and I read it all in one sitting. A must READ! Great book.
Rating: Summary: Just Another Chick Walking The Planet Review: It's amazing to me that prior to even reading this book, there are folks out there raising their noses and pooh-poohing the "truth" according to Hillary Clinton. This frank and somewhat painful story about a life still being lived was riveting and I finished it within one afternoon. I must confess, I had never been a Hillary fan over the past years, due to her press. I now admit to being guilty of not paying enough attention. Mea cupla, Senator. I was riveted in her story. As for her claim that she did not realize the truth of her husband's dalliances? Ask any woman who has ever been cheated on how long it took for the obvious to sink in. You'll notice the bulk of Hill's literary detractors seem to be men, looking for any avenue to tear apart this interesting and honest retelling of international events by the only woman who actually had to live through it. Chicks know how it is. You believe because you want to believe, until, as any good screenwriter knows, it becomes impossible to "suspend disbelief" any longer. The early history of the Clinton partnership, their life together coupled with Hillary's rise to political power and personal wholeness is quite worth the cost of the book. "Why did she write it?" someone asked on cable news today. Easy answer. Because we have been feeding off it for the past ten years, I for one am interested in the other side of the Clinton story as opposed to those who just want to continue the bashing. Read it and give yourself a chance to know someone you may have overlooked and may very well grow to admire. She's a mother, a healing wife, and a US Senator, but when it is all said and done...she's just another chick walking the planet and trying to hang on. Brave job, Hillary.
Rating: Summary: A Reality Book Review: Most of us watch "reality shows" these days, then the book is a reality book, except that it is from one of the smartest women in the world, talking about relationship with one of the most visionary men that is still alive in the US. From the financial and emotional struggles that the first-couple had experienced, Clinton is with no doubt the president that is next to an ordinary person! Hard to believe some people think it is the rich, dumb Texas guy, instead.
Rating: Summary: Buy the Harry Potter pre-order instead! Review: Lucky me. I had an appointment with my kooky liberal doc this morning who thought it would be a good idea to replace the old magazines with copies of Mrs. Clinton's book on the first day of its release. So I read it. Save your money, order the new Harry Potter book instead....! If you skip the blatant political promotions for her run for the presidency in 2004 (or 2008). Then it should maybe take you 10 minutes to read the whole thing. The problem, is Mrs. Clinton is just not credible. When it is convenient for them, the Clinton's hide behind a cloak of privacy to avoid embarassing questions. But when she needs sympathy you can't shut her up from talking about their private life. We are supposed to believe that she was the ONLY person in America who DIDN'T believe her husband was fooling around with Monica Lewinsky. This is pure fabrication in order for us to plausibly believe that she could go on the Today show and blame the "vast right wing conspiracy" for her husband's problems. If you love the Clinton's send them campaign money, but don't buy this...
Rating: Summary: Love/Hurt/ Forgiveness Review: It was written by a woman that I could see the other side of, instead of only thinking of her as the former first lady. It lets us see that we are all human, what ever our title might be. Also that we all should learn how to forgive and forget if we truly care about someone, whether it is husband, child or friend. He was wrong for lying to her, but it just shows the love that she has for him.
Rating: Summary: Great job on a difficult subject Review: Wow - amazing! She deals with true soul-baring issues (that we all have a prurient interest in reading) as well as social issues. How amazing that she could be so forthright, even about the most painful subjects. Every single personal comment will be attacked, but she wrote it anyway. Already I heard a talk-show hack decrying her comments on how she found Bill's hands beautiful. She really is intelligent and socially caring (starting at Wellesley College). She is also arrogant or naive (choose the word depending on your party affiliation) - the changes to our health care system reflected both to a startling degree. It certainly doomed her ability to accomplish anything as First Lady and may prove to be a permanent anchor. What a sad state of affairs that we can't accept difference without personal attack. The book deserves 5 stars. What more could she have written? She took on the serious substance while also serving up the personal info that we crave. Kudos, Hillary!
