Summary: So, you've talked about her. Now, let her talk for herself.
Review: I'm a "First Lady" book-fan. I absolutely loved Rosayln Carter's "First Lady From Plains". I've read books about Martha Washington, Dolly Madison, Rachel Jackson, Mary Todd Lincoln and Eleanor Roosevelt. So, now I've read a fascinating autobiography by Mrs. Clinton. Everybody has an opinion about Senator Hilary Clinton. Who hasn't talked about her? Admit it! So, now the Senator from New York wants to give us more information, only, from her side of the story. "It must be political", critics say. So what? She tells a terrific story. Most books share pleasant surprises with readers, or should, if they're good reads "Living History" is a surprise by how simply it's written- like, from the point of view of an average person given the same set of circumstances experienced by Mrs. Clinton during her husband's tumultuous but prosperous White House Years. Even more enjoyable are the warm and fuzzy photos of Mrs. Clinton's family, her childhood and beautiful photos of her more loving moments with her husband, President Clinton. She obviously loved her husband; she might still love him. Her story is a quick read, a splendid account of history told with emotion and, sure, it's also a timely publication. If people talked about you or me to the extraordinary and compulsive extent that they appear to dwell on Mrs. Clinton, well, hey! wouldn't we be feeling entitled to our own say, in response? Well, "Living History" tells her side with style. Moreover, Mrs. Clinton lived her history with dignity, grace and, ultimately, became victorious over her political adversaries. But, there's not one hint of smugness in "Living History". It's a book worthy of the extraordinary publicity it's generating. Regardless of how we perceive our former First Lady and Senator from New York, she's entitled to this moment in the literary limelight.

Summary: This book is an instant classic
Review: I would have given this book 6 stars if I could have. This book is so much more than what Bill did with Monica. You get to learn about a women who is motivated throughout her life to be the best she can be in life. I do not understand stand why people(prudes/conservatives) call her manipulating. Isn't what she is doing called ambition? Last time I checked, being ambitious was a virtue every American strives for. Lay off Hillary-she is a wonderful woman who wrote a great book. Hillary in 2008!

Summary: Hillary Lite
Review: All right, let's be honest. Everyone who thought that she was going to confess that she was an axe murderer who enjoyed cross-dressing and drowning newborn kittens please raise your hand. Right, no hands.

Normally, people write autobiographies to tell their version of events, and cast themselves in as positive a light as possible. That is what Hillary Rodham Clinton has done in "Living History." If you are a fan of Senator Clinton's, you will enjoy the book, not least because she offers plausible explanations for some of the less savory accusations that have been hurled against her over the last three decades or so, including Whitewater, the national healthcare debacle and those commodities trades. If you are not a fan, you will not enjoy the book for exactly the same reason ' many of the explanations are plausible. Even less appealing to the Senator's detractors, her prose is very readable (though I do wish she wouldn't use "impact" as a verb), her life has been (and continues to be) interesting and she is more charming in print than she often seems in public appearances.

Granted, some of the prose (particularly in the early years) is self-serving: "The keynote speaker at the League convention was Marian Wright Edelman, whose example helped direct me into my lifelong advocacy for children" sound more than a bit self-serving. In her defense, however, she works through the pre-White House days very quickly, so it all becomes a blur of good deeds as a child and honors as a student, right on through graduate school (student government, political activist, first student commencement speaker at Wellesley, etc.). One wonders if she ever got a B in a class or missed a lecture because she overslept. The only exception is her hair, which she treats as a running joke throughout the book.

The other running theme -- no surprise here -- is her belief in a right-wing conspiracy against the Clintons. Read that either as an accurate statement, as the Senator's paranoia or somewhere between. There is no denying, however, that mentioning the Clinton name in certain conservative circles produces the same effect of throwing an ear of corn into a pen of pigs ' both are devoured in seconds.

Whether Senator Clinton does or does not plan to run for President in 2004, or after, one intention of this book is clearly to give her an opportunity to explain herself, and thus reintroduce herself, to the American voting public. That clearly raises the question: why? Perhaps, like Nancy Reagan, she just wanted to tell it her way, or perhaps she is just planning for all eventualities. In any case, this is an interesting read, if not an overly revealing biography of a very complex and ' like it or not ' influential woman in American politics, not a must read, but certainly on the short list for consideration.

Summary: A worthwhile read..
Review: I bought this book as a present for my dad (for father's day) and was reading through it. I am not a big fan of the Clintons and have been a life long republican. Despite this, I found this book well written and a fascinating inside glimpse of marriage and politics. The book was also nicely illustrated and filled with photos of her from childhood to present.

I expected this book to be very political but Senator Clinton has given readers a look at her background and college years, how she and her husband met in school, her decision to go back to arkansas with him and eventually enter the political arena. Even her detractors have to admit that she is an accomplished well educated person.

Most fascinating are the White House years and all the associated scandals. She writes candidly about her time as First Lady and the various battles she had- with healthcare, with white water, with her marriage and monica lewinsky etc. She came across as very likable and sympathetic ( and this from a die hard republican!)

All in all this book was a worthwhile read- it is giving us a glimpse of the inside workings of washington during turbulent times. Everyone from all political spectrums can appreciate this book .

Summary: The Memorable Clinton Years
Review: This was one of the most thought revoking pieces I have read in recent weeks. Hillary's delightfully warm personality (albeit sometimes a bit quirky) comes sparkling through on each and every page of this fascinating romp through the Clinton Years in the White House. I heartily recommend it - and the cookie recipes in the Afterward are quite tasty, as well.

Summary: I wanted MORE!
Review: I was very interested in reading this book and I couldn't put it down because the more I read, the more I thought she was going to reveal dark secrets - but she didn't. The book is a buildup of nothing and the only thing you learn is that her Husband (Bill Clinton) had an affair which, by the way, I already knew. She does not, however, go into Bill's dark, dark secrets with details such as his rapes, pilfering, dishonesty, and presidential pardons - she was there when Bill did all of this and I wanted her perspective on it but instead she obfuscates all these things behind the ridiculous ramblings found within the book to protect him. But still, at it's heart it provides us with some interesting information about this Former first lady. Like or Hate her, buy this book.

Review: Wow, this book should be sold under the fiction category! Imagine this woman telling us she believed Bill Clinton about the affair. If she were president, would she have believed the USSR about missles? Give me a break!

Summary: Simply fantastic!
Review: This book is a wonderful account of both a unique and incredible human being and a fascinating period in American history. It is very well-written, informative and entertaining.

Hillary explains, with great eloquence, how her childhood and the values she was brought up with influenced her future.
She is able to put her own life into context with what was happening in America and how people and events shaped her and her politics.

I think that her accounts of Whitewater and other scandals were incredibly persuasive. They are an effective answer to the mud-slinging of others who, for personal and political gain, have sought to portray her and her husband as monsters.

Hillary is clearly an intelligent and talented woman, as demonstrated by this book. I have long hoped that she would run for President and, after reading this book, I think it would be an incaluable tragedy for America if she did not achieve this.

Summary: Just plain boring and bad
Review: The book was a bad read, boring, and not very interesting. A waste of my money and the publishers.
