Rating: Summary: Excellent! Review: The story was really serious. Most of the parts were funny, like the part when he had the chicken pox from the pizza he ate! Or the time he was having the fight with Mars Bar. The serious part was when Amanda had the pages torn from her book.
Rating: Summary: I recommend this book Review: I think this book was very interesting, but the reality of his world isn't realistic to me.
Rating: Summary: I LOVE THIS BOOK! Review: I LIKE THIS BOOK BEACUSE IT FEELS SO REAL TO ME LIKE IT CAN BE ANYBODY, THAT BOOK WAS MY LIFE THAT WAS MY FIRST BOOK I EVER LIKED IN MY LIFE YOU SHOULD REALLY READ IT, IT IS EXCELLENT!
Rating: Summary: Maniac Magee is sad and exciting book. Review: Jerry Spinelli is great at explaining the actions of young Jeffrey Magee. Jeffrey's parentsdied when he was just a little kid. He was sent to live with his Aunt and Uncle, who do not have a real loving relationship. So, one day, he runs away. This book tells about his adventures through Two Mills, a prejudiced town. And his adventures with the Beals, McNabs, Grayson, and Pickwells, as he searches for a home.
Rating: Summary: NL-S Review: The book Maniac Mcgee by Jerry Spinelli is a very interesting and great book to read. This book about a young boy named Jeffery, who lost his parents in a railroad accident and was orphaned. He overcame many problems at his uncle and aunts house and finally escaped, and ran back to his hometown where he used to live. This book teaches you to not to judge people based on race, but to try and give them a chance. Jeffery overcomes many racial problems and brings together two very racial minded towns. He has amazing talents such as running, playing baseball, and even being able to untie knots that no one else can untie. I would highly recommend this book to elementary and middle school children because some of the content is a little unbelievable. The child Jeffery is about there age, so they could visualize his actions in there life, which I believe they would enjoy. Older kids in high school would get bored with it because of the the unbelievable stunts he does. My friends that have also read this book believe it to be a very good book for children. The content really caught them and it made them really think. They said it was a book because you could tell what the ending was going to be before it was over. It made them finish the book to be able to get any thing out of it.
Rating: Summary: Maniac Magee review by Sarah Federico Review: Maniac Magee is an excellent book for any young adult to read. It is about a boy named Jeffrey "Maniac" Magee, and his parents died so he was left on his own. He made a friend with a girl named Amanda Beal and stayed with her and her family. It wasn't predictable, so everything was a surprise to me. Because the book is about a boy that's around our age (maybe a little younger), it is easy for any young adult to relate to Maniac's thoughts. This immaginative story that kids can relate to has won the author many well deserved rewards. Maniac Magee is a very immaginative story, that led me to not want to put it down for a second. The detail made ot seem like it could have happened to you or someone close to you, even though some pretty crazy things happened. I beleive the starred booklist would agree with me, it raves "bursts with creativity, enthusiasm, and hope for a future; in short its a celebration of life". By reading this book you will feel like you have known Jeffrey "Maniac" Magee all of your life. If there is one thing about this book it is that it wasn't predictable, it waqs just one surprise after the next. The New York times claims "has the tone of a story that has come down through the years". One reader from Huston Texas responding to a review for Amazon.com rated the book on a sclae from 1-5 stars a 5. The attentive reader replies "fascinating story, beautifully crafted". I am not the only one who thinks this way tons of people have published reiviews regarding good things about it on Amazon.com. This book has also won many awards. One of which was waon back in 1991, it was the newberry Medal, which is a great honor for an author to win. According to Amazon.com the average costomer review was 4 1/2 stars out of a possible five. Many of the reivews on Maniac Magee that was submitted had four and five stars. Thst means that many people thought it was a great book. Despite all of the good reviws and things like that about the book, there are still reasons why you might not think this is a good book to read as a young adult. One of the readers from J.C. New York gave the book only a 3 star reiview. So you can always look at it from their point of view. The New York times says this book is mainly for kids ages 8 - 14, so if you are looking for a book that is at a higher age level you might want to reconsider about which book you read. But I don't think like that because this book was recommended to me last year by a friend who had read it and liked it. There are a lot of race issues in this book, so that might be a little offencive to people, and also it just shows how some people can be just becuase they don't like someone else's skin color. This is an excellent book for young adults to becuase it is immaginative , surprsing, won many awards and is about someone my age. I guarantee that if you read this book that you won't be dissapointed.
Rating: Summary: Very educational and delightful reading Review: I am a grad student and had to read this book for my literary circle group. I was not looking forward to it but once I started reading it, I could not put it down. I found it very educational and would recommend it to teachers for their class to read. I think that racism is something that students have to deal with and this book may help them realize that it should not matter what color a person's skin is.
Rating: Summary: Aloha from Lana'i,HI. Magee spreads aloha to groups. Review: A 1996 Nene Award, chosen by children of Hawaii. Jeffrey Lionel Magee tries to spread ALOHA or listen with your heart to the whites & blacks. Amanda Beale is the sheroe while Magee is the folk tall tale heroe of the kids who run to him to untie knots in their shoelaces, watch him do 45 touchdowns, pitch fast baseballs, sleep with baby buffalo in the zoo, teach old Earl Grayson how to read "Little Engine that COULD", eat butterscotch krimpets, dance Christmas polka, treasured Grayson's old minor-league mitt, longed for a home sweet home. Jerry is married to Eileen Spinelli, writer of "What makes me giggle? A moose with a wiggle" from "The Giggle & Cry Book." As Emily Dickinson writes "There is no frigate like a book to take us lands away..." Aloha pumehana, Luz Ramil, School Librarian, Lanai High & Elem. School
Rating: Summary: I don't recamend this to readers Review: The book Maniac Magee was not a vwey intresting book. I also wouldn't recamend this because the price it outraglessly expensive and I got my copy at a local bookstore for $2.89.
Rating: Summary: Fifth Grade Students Love This Book Review: I teach fifth grade students. Maniac Magee is one of the required reading assignments for my class. The students have a hard time putting it down once they start reading it. This book introduces the students to some very interesting characters. It makes the students appreciate the homes and the friends that they have. All 11 year old children should read this book.
