Rating: Summary: Like finding a friend... Review: I enjoyed this book so much -- it was as if I found a friend in Dominick Birdsey. I felt his pain from a troubled childhood, hated him for his destructive actions and negative attitude, and loved him for his unending affection and sense of responsiblity for his twin brother, Thomas. Lamb has an extabordinary ability to draw his readers into the world of the characters and make the reader care about them. If one does not care about the characters of a novel -- it's not going to work. I felt a deep connection with Dominick; as if we were enduring this struggle together. Birdsey is a modern-day tragic hero: both of them, Dominick and Thomas. I highly reccomend it.
Rating: Summary: Excellent! Review: This book was so good I hated to put it down and I couldn't wait to get back to it. I hated to see the end because I enjoyed it so much. How the lives of twins can be so different!
Rating: Summary: How dysfunctional can a family get? Review: I don't enjoy reading about all the tragedies that can happen to one family! The first 880 pages delineate each one in painful detail. Then all is wrapped up in the last 20 pages and everything works out peach keen for the main character. I wish I would have spent my time reading 2 or 3 good books!
Rating: Summary: A Great Psychological Book Review: I also read Wally Lamb's "She's Come Undone" and while I enjoyed that one better, this novel was still worth reading. Yes, it's a lot to read, but Wally's ability to get inside a person's head so well and so accurately is astonishing. The main character is undeniably real. My only real complaint is that it got a bit too graphic at times and I didn't care for the constant swearing, but it did give it that element of reality. And I suppose the ending was a bit cheesy, but hey, why can't things work out perfect for once? Sometimes we need a happy ending.
Rating: Summary: Excellent! Review: My boss is a memeber of the Oprah book club and lent this to me.This was the first book in the club I had read and it was not at all disappointing.I loved every minute of the book.I found it to be well written and not at all what I expected it to be.Just when I thought that I had things figured out I found myself pleasantly surprised.A must read for anyone who enjoys good writing.
Rating: Summary: Best Book Ever Review: This was by far the best book I have ever read. I was sitting on an airplane that was in the process of being delayed 2 hours. I sat next to my brother, and my father was sitting in the row behind us next to a 10 year old girl. I was reading I Know This Much Is True, by Wally Lamb, and I satrted crying. This was the first, and only, time that i have ever cried from reading a book. I didn't want anyone to see me crying, but i desperately needed a tissue, so i turned around in my seat to ask my dad for a tissue. He asked me why i was crying, and I told him that my book was sad, and both he and my brother laughed at me. I bet the ten year old thought i was a big baby. in any case, the book was worth the emabrrassment...it was THAT good!
Rating: Summary: Superb! Review: This had to be the best book I have read in a long time. It felt like I was part of Dominick's family. Outstanding story. Could not put the book down. A definite must read!
Rating: Summary: 900 plus pages in over 2 days and YES I HAVE A LIFE! Review: Initially this book was suggested by a friend, now retired teacher. I am the Mother of twins, a wife, a small business owner and a published book author myself. I FOUND THE TIME to read it. Initially I was turned off by the amount of pages but once started I could not put it down. An interesting well written, diverse read covering a wide range of personal relationships.
Rating: Summary: I have eyestrain Review: Although it took me two weeks to read the first 300 pages, I have stayed up late four nights in a row to finish reading this engrossing book! For me, the story really took off half way through the book when Dominick started to read his Grandfather's memoirs. It was incredible, the parallels between the generations. I loved the way the stories woave back and forth between the immigrant grandfather and his grandsons. I have just picked up "She's Come Undone", and can't wait to immerse myself in it. Keep on writing Wally - you have a true gift for describing human feelings and emotions.
Rating: Summary: More Wally! Review: I'm not much of a reader but lately I've had some spare time, so, upon hearing of Wally Lamb on the Oprah show, I chose a really long book, I know THis Much is True, but boy, what a fast, long read! Thought it would take time but with a story as mesmerizing and magical as this, I just couldn't put it down! With every sentence you become hooked. The characters you though you would hate, you can't help but love, wonderfully wicked, terriblly thoughtful, it's truly a great read!
