Rating: Summary: WOW Review: the only down fall to this book is thie size of it. it is a hefty boo
Rating: Summary: Wonderful book! Review: I loved this book! It is incredibly well written and engaging. Full of emotion, I couldn't put it down. I also loved the happy ending. I highly recommend I Know This Much Is True.
Rating: Summary: A very good book Review: This book was amazing. The only downfall is the volume of it. I think most people want to read 300-400 pages of fiction, and this doubles this plus! But a superbly written book and a very sad story (with maybe too clean of an ending). I found it easier to get into She's Come Undone, but I have passed both books on to many friends and will continue to do so. Looking forward to others, Wally, but maybe 700 pages next time!
Rating: Summary: A little derivative? Review: I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book once I got into it, even with the overly-neat ending. However, I was horribly disturbed by the similarity to Pat Conroy's THE PRINCE OF TIDES. Dysfunctional family spawns twins -- one sane, one psychotic. The sane twin goes through psychotherapy in an attempt to "heal" the psychotic one and serve as his/her memory. I think it's a shame that as well written as this book is, Wally Lamb couldn't have come up with a less derivative story line. And it's not like PRINCE OF TIDES is some obscure book that he wouldn't have remembered... so no excuse for subsconsious influence!
Rating: Summary: Happy to finish... Review: I have to admit it was a downright struggle to get through this book strictly for the sheer size of it. The story was captivating, but I was dreading reading 900 pages! 'Round page 450 or so, I couldn't believe I was only 1/2 way through, but I must say it was well, well worth it. This is an excellent, engaging, involving book. It lingered with for weeks after finishing it, much like Angela's Ashes by Frank McCourt. The one thing that was getting on my nerves at times was the grandfather's writings...tedious. Absolutely tedious. I found myself skipping ahead past it, I think he could have trimmed a little of that fat off. I give it four stars and not five because I think he could have slimmed it down a bit and given us a leaner book. I started reading "She's Come Undone" before I started IKTMIT, and I had to put that one down, I couldn't get into it, but once I finished IKTMIT, I gave "She's Come Undone" a second try and I was glad I did that as well. I look forward to Wally Lamb's next effort, but at this rate it'll be like 1500 pages long!
Rating: Summary: excellent Review: This is a book that deals with issues such as borderline child abuse, mental illness, being a sibling, becoming an adult...all in a moving and thouroughly real and believable way. It has been a long time time since I read such a well written book that is also a page turner. It also makes you think about life and about yourself. Couldn't put it down.
Rating: Summary: What a great book! Review: This book took a little time to get into, but well with the time and effort. It truly was a moving story, and I felt a loss of a dear friend when I came to the last page. Great!
Rating: Summary: I am addicted to this novel! Review: After reading Wally Lamb's first novel, She's Come Undone my thoughts were consumed by it. I told everyone I knew to read the book. I was so addicted to it that I would literally walk down the hallways reading it. Well, the addiction has happened again. I started I Know This Much is True, a 900 pg. book on a Tuesday and could not rest until I could finish it. It made me laugh out loud, cry, cheer, thank the Lord for my life, and in the end cry again because I had to say goodbye to the characters that I felt I had such a bond with. This book has truly done something to me and I have taken some of the many life lessons the book has taught me and tried to apply them in my own life. I recommend this to everyone. It is honestly one of the best books I have ever read.
Rating: Summary: How Miserable Can We Be? Review: This novel is a virtual Wal-Mart of the scourges of mankind: abuse, adultery, AIDS, amputation, auto wrecks (those are just the A's). The main character and most around him are in complete misery for all but few pages at the end of this overly-long 900 page book. A quick, contrived happily-ever-after ending for Dominic, but other important characters just end up dead.
Rating: Summary: Keep reading...the best is yet to come! Review: I had a hard time with the beginning of this book, I just couldn't get into it! But, I was promised by a fellow reader to keep reading, it would be worth it and it was! Once Domenic starts reading his Grandfather's history the whole story makes since. I would highly recommend this book to any dedicated reader.
