Rating: Summary: A mesmerizing read. Review: Why 4 stars instead of 5? The language. Especially the God's name in vain bit. I would love to give this book to my mother and grandmother, big readers, but they wouldn't be able to stomach the language. Notwithstanding the language, it was a great read. I enjoy a protaganist (sp?) that I sincerely DON'T like, but want to read his story anyway. Makes him, and the story, more real. It's an interesting picture of small-town life - the same characters and their ancestors and descendents keep appearing throughout the story. That doesn't happen in the 'burbs. You feel Dominick's frustration at his brother, who, at the time the book begins, is beyond reason. The story was long, but I started on a Friday and finished the next Tuesday.
Rating: Summary: non-stop reading! Review: Completely different from his first novel yet just as phenomenal. So many twists and turns in this story. I didn't want the book to end and when it did, what a shocker!
Rating: Summary: EVEN BETTER THAN "SHE'S COME UNDONE"! Review: Wonderful story. Great character development. I could not put this book down. Read all 800+ pages in two sitting. Please write more, Mr. Lamb! Can't wait to read the next one.
Rating: Summary: A very insightful story of family discovery Review: Although I enjoyed his first novel more than this one I sitll think it was a well written story and the content was very interesting. I found it a little slow going at first but I am sure glad I didn't give up on it. I is a wonderful story of family ties and self discovery. I believe that the history from the gradfathers perspecitve was a necessary and integral part of the book. The similarities in his story to that of his daughters and grandsons are important in Dominicks search of himself. After all history repeats itself. I admired Dominicks vigor in helping his brother although I beleive his reasons were not even clear to himself mainly his need to do good for his dead mother.
Rating: Summary: Excellent! Review: This book is wonderful! It was inspiring, and brought me to tears. A must for any book lover.
Rating: Summary: This time I'VE come undone! Review: This book is not nearly as compelling as his first book, and I'm sorry I read it. It seems Wally Lamb wrote "She's Come Undone" because he had a story to TELL;he wrote his second book because he had a story to SELL. I was disappointed.
Rating: Summary: Most Gratifying Reading Experience Ever! Review: I read the book for a book club with friends, and we all agreed that this was the most amazing book we'd ever read. The characters and plot were incredibly well-developed, the insight and wisdom were invaluable, and everyone loves a happy ending! Even if you don't have time now to read it, this book belongs on your "MUST READ" list!
Rating: Summary: The best book I have ever read. Review: Although the 900 pages was intimidating, I finally finished it and I am glad I did. I have read a lot of books and this is the best one I have ever read. I couldn't put it down. I loved every bit of the story line and I liked the author's style of writing as well. The story line was truly believable. With so many books out there, it is hard to find really good reading material. I would recommend this book to anyone and everyone, especially those who just like reading really good stories. Don't let the length of the book intimidate you. It is worth it. I can't wait to read more of Wally Lamb's material!!!
Rating: Summary: One of my all time favorites Review: This book is one of the best I've ever read. I'm not sure it's better than "She's Come Undone," but it's definitely more daring, ambitious, and without a doubt on par with it. For the reviewers who are dismissing this book for all its "unbelievable" dysfunctionality, there ARE families with dysfunction like this. I don't know any personally, thank God, but look at the ratings Jerry Springer gets. Some people out there must relate! I was most impressed with the sympathy with which Dominick's brother was treated. As a champion of disabled rights, I think this book will shed light on mental illness and the way in which afflicted people are treated. They deserve compassion and respect, not pity and fear, and this book illustrates that.
Rating: Summary: Good Book Review: I admit like most people the sheer size of this book was intimidating. But, once I started reading, it was hard to put down. The characters were interesting, and believable. I felt the pain and shared in the joy of all the characters. I think the brotherly connection was portrayed very well. This book is a must read.
