Summary: Disappointing
Review: If Wally Lamb had stuck to telling the story of the sibling relationship between Dominick and Thomas, I'm certain the novel would have been much better and a lot shorter. There are entirely too many plot lines within this novel (i.e. Dom's relationship with Dressa, Joy's AIDS dilemma, the crazy Italian grandfather, etc.). Much of the novel could have been condensed with the help of a good editor. The ending was also out of left field. I didn't believe for one minute that Dominick and Thomas were part black, Indian, or whatever. Wally Lamb has about three or four novels going on within "I Know This Much is True." My suggestion is that he tell the Ralph Drinkwater story. This character seemed much more interesting that the Dominick Birdsey's throughout most of the novel.

Summary: terrific. a marvelous read.
Review: the idea of a 900 page novel may be daunting, but this book is well worth the time. "I Know This Much Is True" is a beautifully written epic spanning 3 generations of dysfunctional families, tragedy, mental illness-but with a core of joy and redemption that shines through on nearly every page. I would rank this book up there with "A Prayer For Owen Meany" as a must-read piece of contemporary fiction.

Summary: Time Well Spent
Review: To a sixteen-year-old girl, some parts of this book were unsettling. After finishing the last page, though, I discovered that overall, this is a satisfying book. Whenever I finish a great book I wish that it'd been longer and this novel has that covered. To create such detail and characters must have been some ordeal for Wally Lamb but judging by the finished product, he succeeded in writing something worthwhile.

Summary: Incredible
Review: An amazing story which pulls the reader's emotions in many directions. Just when you think nothing else can happen...it does. A page-turner until the very end. Superbly written.

Summary: He's done it again!
Review: With as many reviews on file as there are on this book I hope prospective readers will take the hint that this is an excellent book. I read SHE'S COME UNDONE because it was recommended by Oprah. I read this one because I will now read anything Wally Lamb writes. (I watched Oprah's show with him . . . what a nice guy!) I was impressed with the author's ability to develop such a great female character in his first book. Now in his second book, he has given us a remarkable male lead character (as well as other wonderful characters). There is a lot of emotion written into these 897 pages, including a lot of pain. I, as the reader, FELT that pain; I went through it all with the characters. I enjoyed the parallels drawn among the three generations; the questions were finally answered and understood at the end. I loved the ending. I like it when things work out. Don't let the length of the book put you off. Remember . . . when you love a book, there are never enough pages to it. THANKS, WALLY LAMB. I WILL READ ANYTHING YOU PUT OUT THERE FOR ME TO READ!

Summary: One of the Best Books I've Read This Year
Review: This book is very entertaining and interesting. I learned a whole new perspective of life that I didn't know existed. It was very well-written and easy to follow. It is the longest book I've ever read, but one of the fastest also, I didn't want to put it down. This book is highly recommended.

Summary: A BIG book, but every page was worth a read!
Review: Having read "She's Come Undone" twice, I was eager to see if Wally Lamb could do it again--create fiction that rings true and teaches us as much about ourselves and our own family as it does about the main character(s). The answer is a resounding YES. Sometimes when a book is this long it's a sign of overkill/poor editing. Not so with "I Know This Much is True". It's worth your time.

Summary: Full bodied - a good read.
Review: Wally's second book, though not as emotionally captivating as "She's Come Undone", was an incredible study of a family. The relationship between the brothers was a very real portrayal. At one time in my life I would have felt that the intertwined relationships were a little too coincidental. However, as I get older, the more coincidences I find in real life, make all those coincidences in books more credible. The story was a little too neatly tied up in the final pages, but I would have felt cheated without it.

Summary: I could not put it down, first page to last.
Review: this book had me in it;s spell from the first page. The story of the Twins, their childhood, and the story of the grandfather were interwove to keep the pages turning. I rate it 5 stars...
