Summary: Remarkable, reminds you that forgiving is not that simple.
Review: Wally Lamb was brilliant; although it was a lengthy book I could not stop reading it. It was a book that emphasized in how important your first years of life shape up the rest of it. I really didn't care much about a lot of the extra people that were mentioned in his granfathers biography, especially the monkey and her witchcraft. In overall I understand that by Dominick reading that biography he learned to find himself. I also wished that the biography wouldn't jump from chapter to chapter. It would make me get into the biography and then it would stop and another chapter would be about what was going on in the present; get used to that and then have to read more about the biography. The near end of the book was so addicting that I kept reading it until I finished it at three thirty in the morning. Great book I highly recommend it!!

Summary: Lamb delivers a life-changing gift to the reader
Review: My wife encouraged me to read this 900-page book with the words: "you will not regret this". She was right. The intensity of emotion with which the book starts is overwhelming from the first page, and it only gets better from then on. On the surface, this is a book about the relationship between two lost souls, the narrator and his schizophrenic twin. The account of the suffering brought onto the family by the mentally ill brother's self-mutilation is not only realistic and compelling, but also surprisingly charged with universal accessibility. At a deeper level, the author courageously explores the challenging psychological nuances of grief and confusion. It is the mark of Lamb's great empathy and spirituality, that we can root for an angry and desperate man who tries to alienate himself from his environment and the reader. The plot weaves in the story of the narrator's Sicilian grandfather with masterful ability. The small "detour" Domenico's story takes us to never feels like an unnecessary trip. Instead it expands the power of the emerging symbols of the novel : monkeys and rabbits. However, the special gift contained in this book is the author's spiritual journey that yields a unique experience to the receptive reader. The toxic nature of anger, the process of change through therapy are two of the many lessons to appreciate here. When I finished the book, I found myself wishing to become "True" man.

Summary: Predictable
Review: Bouncing back and forth from past to present makes for some pretty fast reading. Is this the same book as She's Come Undone, just different characters? Hey, Wally, it would be interesting if you stretched yourself and tried a different approach for your third book. I've found both of Lamb's novels to be highly predictable -- in fact, I was on an island in the South Pacific reading She's Come Undone, and found 3 critical chapters in my book completely blank. Never fear, I made up my own conclusions and never missed a beat. She's Come Undone is way more fun than these two cry-baby's story. Besides, I won't hurt my back picking up She's Come Undone. There should be rules about how long and drawn out a book should be. Was the Editor in the South Pacific without a red marker? Also to the Editor, typos are not acceptable.

Summary: As an avid reader and writer....
Review: I find it utterly refreshing that Wally Lamb had the vision and determination, not to mention the talent, to create such a complex and epically proportioned novel. The naysayers will whine that the book's ending is too pat and that the "history lesson" is gratuitious, but any author that can inspire hundreds of thousands of people to read a novel of such depth and sheer scope deserves positive recognition.

I found the novel to be every bit as riveting and character-driven as "She's Come Undone" and I have recommended both novels to many friends and colleagues, with generally glowing response. Thank you, Mr. Lamb. In an age ruled by the 90-minute entertainment package you've given us something in which to sink our teeth and minds.

Summary: sorry to see the book end, to good, wanted it to cotinue.
Review: Great story line, but like his other novel kind of depressing. The author shares a great lesson that can be used by one and all. Do not let the joy in your life be destroyed by pent up anger.

Summary: One of my favorite books ever!
Review: I loved this book! The characters were so real to me and I really was disappointed when the book was done. It is definitely the best book I've read in a long time...and I've been reading quite alot lately. This is a MUST READ - a book that I will be lending to my friends.

Summary: You call this good?????
Review: This book was very long, and very slow. I am not one to abandon a book, but doing so to this one was very tempting. So much garbage about nothing. I agree with the reader who said BLAH BLAH BLAH. Maybe if it was shorter it may have been a little easier to swallow. The part about Domenico's book I had to skip altogether because it was bogus. I have read many books in my life and this one does not get a rave review from me. Wally Lamb should have stuck to the likes of "She's Come Undone." That was a great book, so good, it took less than 2 days to read. Take my advice, skip this book unless an "Oprah" atmosphere fascinates you.

Summary: I couldn't put it down!
Review: I loved this book! The characters were unique, yet believable. The ending was probably too neat and too perfect, but that was what I wanted--and what, I think, fiction readers and movie-goers alike want:a happy ending. The inclusion of the narrator's grandfather's papers was a double treat--almost a book within a book. His story, told in flashback, was both humorous and sad, victorious and miserable. This book is a must-read.

Summary: Excellent storytelling, compelling from beginning to end !
Review: Wally Lamb is raising the bar of fiction with this literary masterpiece. His characters reach something deep within our souls, unravelling truths that compel us to find our own truths in life. Satisfying from beginning to end. A marvel!

Rating: 3 stars
Summary: Bit long winded & predictable American ending
Review: The book could have been condensed into 500pages. The only reprive in the second half of the book was his grandfathers diary. One felt that the ending was very cliched with the hero getting the girl back.
