Rating: Summary: interminable Review: To start with the ending: What a fortuitous turn of coincidental fate! Coincidence in real life happens all the time. In fiction it is totally unbelievable. The rest of the book I found to be extremely uneven, repetitious, and sometimes obscured by its own convoluted language. The bouncing from past to present was occasionally confusing, The "Domenico" papers were written very unevenly until I was saying to myself, is this the old man or the grandson talking here? I was not sorry I read the book, but it took me a long time, a chapter a day as it were, and ALWAYS I was wondering... (I am a writer) How did he ever get a publisher to read his original manuscript?
Rating: Summary: wonderful, heartwrenching, provacative couldnt put it down Review: From the start of this book to its heart wrenching, dramatic finish I was mesmerised. The story is about Dominick and his twin Thomas who is schizophrenic and their relationship. It is heartbreaking to see how Dominick relates to his brother to whom he feels completely responsible and his promise to his mother to look after Thomas. Dominick'is always looking for his real father, and looking for his mother¡ love. He finds his grandfather¡ manuscript and from there he starts to find himself also. It is a story of pain and redemption of a human being¡,loneliness and intertwined with an ancient Hindu myth. A powerful story which will leave no reader untouched.I was thoroughly moved.
Rating: Summary: TOO LONG A READ. TOO QUICK AND SIMPLE AN ENDING Review: THIS BOOK WENT ON FOR AGES, IT WAS SO DEPRESSING THAT I KEPT READING IT BECAUSE A "GOOD FRIEND" RECOMMENDED IT. THE ENDING WAS SO DARNED TRITE AND SO SIMPLE AND SO GOODY GOODY THAT I COULDN'T BELIEVE IT WAS A BEST SELLER. HOPE TO NEVER READ ANOTHER NOVEL BY THIS AUTHOR AGAIN!
Rating: Summary: All 900 pages were great Review: I really enjoyed this book. All characters were interesting (even the grandfather as told thru his own story). I will recommend Wally Lamb to everyone!!!!!!
Rating: Summary: Wally Lamb tipifies all that is human and good! Review: I Know This Much is True is an incredible journey towards self proclamation and sanity. Wally Lamb has filled this story with feelings that we have all felt and still feel, in some degree or the other. This story will grab your heart and never let go, long after you have completed this great book. Was a wake-up call to all that should be omnipotent in all of our worlds. Excellent story....I give it many more than 5 stars! Kudos to Wally Lamb!!!! P.S....Wally's book entitled "She's Come Undone" is also another fantastic read.
Rating: Summary: It has a cadence, like a heartbeat. It is truly wonderful. Review: Thank you, Wally Lamb. This book was hard to put down. It is lengthy; but it is a fast read. The characters ring true. The wonders of the story open like a flower -- layer by layer. Recommended!!
Rating: Summary: This is one of the best books I've ever read!! Review: I identified with this book because I have a schizophrenic brother. The book held my interest right from the beginning through the very end. I feel this is a must read!
Rating: Summary: Great read, but ultimately too long. Review: There are hunks and sections in this book that are as great as anything I've ever read and then there are some predictable story outcomes and some ridiculous plot points. All in all I think the book is good and worth the read but it could have used some tighter editing. It's as if you're getting the box set that goes with the book. There seems to be nothing left out. However,as I said I did enjoy it. If you come from a less than perfect family you wont feel alone. If you didn't it'll take you somewhere you never even imagined.
Rating: Summary: Wonderful! Review: I loved this book! The author did a wonderful job of making sure that his readers were feeling the pain and joy of each character. (The only reason I'm giving this book 4 stars, instead of 5 is that I got a little lost on the "monkey" part of the book).
Rating: Summary: A MASTERPIECE!!! Review: After reading Wally Lamb's first book, SHE'S COME UNDONE, I decided to pick this one up. I usually read one BIG book once a year, and it usually takes me up to one month to get through it. What amazes me with this book is that it only took me two weeks to read. I could not put this down AT ALL!!!!!! This was a wonderful, easy read. This is much better than his first book. If you are considering this book, really...PICK IT UP!!! It is worth it!!! You'll love every page, from beginning to end.
