Rating: Summary: Jamie Ashley River Creative Arts Elementary Review: I read ESPERANZA RISING and loved it! It was sad and happy at the same time. When Esperanza's dad died it was really sad. I thought her mom was going to die. My favorite part was when Abuelita comes. That was really happy. This book proves that even in hard times you can still be happy. In the words of Pam Munoz Ryan, "Be Patient and the fruit will fall in your hand."
Rating: Summary: Stephanie At Ashley River Creative Arts Elm. Review: Esperanza believed she would always live on her ranch in Mexico. She would always have everything she ever wanted. And That her family would always be there. But one day her father is killed by bandits leaving her life as a tradegy that twists her inside out. The will that was left states that Esperanza's uncle gets the ranch. But her mother keeps the house. The uncle asks Esperanza's mother to marry him but she refuses. This answer upsets the uncle leaving him no choice but to burn down the house. Esperanza wakes up and her life is now a living nightmere. While she was thinking nothing else could go wrong the tradgedy causes her mother and her to flee to California. There they work as mexican migrant workers through the great depression. She thinks she is better than everyone else in the camp. But when Mama becomes sick so she must finally cross the river to get to her heart's desire. My favorite part of the book is when Esperanza learns to sweep for the first time. I recommend this book to everyone because it truly is the best book ever. I think Pam Munoz Ryan should write more books about Esperanza. The book was Perfact and very interesting to read.
Rating: Summary: Esperanza Rising Review: Ryan has given us an accurate, engaging page-turner. Readers will enjoy the story while learning about the lives of farm workers. This story is re-told in real life even now in the lives of thousands of farm workers around our nation. While the strike referred to in the book failed, readers can log in United Farm Workers or Cesar Chavez for books about a successful series of farm worker strikes. Gracias, Senora Ryan!
Rating: Summary: Rising in Hope Review: Yes, Esperanza rises, and she takes her readers, young and old, along with her. Unique in its perspective, Esperanza Rising weaves a masterful tale of a girl's paradoxical journey from "riches to rags". Esperanza is a privileged, haughty girl when we first meet her. We cringe at her naive pride when she confidently reminds the housekeeper's son, Miguel, that, "she was the ranch owner's daughter and between them ran a deep river..." that this river, "could never be crossed." But soon Esperanza is buffeting a series of tragic events that push her through loss, deception, danger, and ultimately, poverty. The writing is beautifully simple. Pam Munoz Ryan imbues the ordinary with poignant symbolism. Rose bushes, a crocheted blanket, a porcelain doll, and even the fruits and vegetables that mark the seasons for a field worker, become Esperanza's emotional treasure. The story is so warmly wrapped in these simple symbols, a reader is humbly reminded of the true unshakeable power of life's gifts. Esperanza Rising also offers a unique perspective into the history of Depression-era California. Esperanza lives and works in a farm labor camp for Mexican migrants, but the competition with Japanese and Okie laborers is fierce, not to mention discriminatory. At one point in the story, the Mexican children are excited because at the new Okie camp there is a swimming pool where the Mexicans are allowed to swim every Saturday morning, just before it gets cleaned. In another instance, the Mexican workers are divided amongst themselves as some become activists fighting for better conditions, while others are simply thankful for the day's work. Esperanza is torn as well, as she struggles to understand the delicate balance between survival and dignity. Esperanza Rising is a beautiful and powerful story, a story for all, a story of hope in the face of despair, of growth in the aftermath of loss.
Rating: Summary: Esperanza Risisng Review: Esperanza RisingHave you ever read a book that it made you actually transport into the characters life, that is what will happen to you once you read Esperanza Rising by Pam Munoz Ryan. Some of the things I liked about Esperanza Rising is that it gives so many great details, details about the way they describe how they feel they even describe how the food in their mouth tastes. Personally at first when I began to read the book I thought it was a little boring because there was not that much excitement it was only Esperanza and her father speaking to each other. But then many exciting things started happening well of course I can't tell you anything because you have to read the book. But, trust me you will NOT be disappointed when you begin reading this great book.

Well I have. In Esperanza Rising, Esperanza has two worlds. The first world starts with happiness and it ends in sadness or anger. In her second world it starts with sadness and it ends with happiness or peace. This book explores love, courage, sadness, and friendship. Love, because she has people all around that love her. Courage, because she has courage to keep on moving on, and having hope. Sadness, because there was death. And Friendship, because she found friends who cared. Read this book. Rating: Summary: Esperanza, Up you Go Review: Pam Muniz has become a "3 thumbs up" writer of "the changes in life." She will make you laugh, feel sad, and be impressed about the books. This is the best story ever written. All of you millionaires better be prepared to have a change of a lifetime. One day you could be with all the money, the next day you might be broke. Esperanza had it all when she was small, but when she started to pass through a very hard and rough life. It was like one day she was in heaven and the other day she was in the land of devils with pain, and insults. Prepare to discover Esperanza's easy life in Mexico and hard life in California. Where in Mexico she had everything until a tragedy happens and changes her life forever. Also , get ready to see what happens to Esperanza and her mother in California. Could it be bad or good? The best part to read in this book is, where they talk about their traditions. When they say when they are done and what does it mean to them. If you are some one that love s to read about childhood crushes then the beginning of the story is right for you. (This was also on of my favorite parts, too.) Another book that is similar to this is Out of the Dust. This book is abut during the same time period. I think if you enjoy Esperanza Rising, you will like this book, too. It's about the same but with different characters and problems.
