Rating: Summary: Riches to Rags Review: ...An eye-opener, future- thinking, nothing-is- forever kind of book. Esperanza Rising is a riches to rags novel. Pam Munoz Ryan tells it like it is for all immigrants trying to survive in the United States and adding a little sparkle to it. Esperanza's life was a fairy tale. Living in a gorgeous ranch in Aguascalientes, Mexico. Esperanza lived with her parents and grandmother. But one afternoon everything changes. Her snowball, dream shatters in to a million little pieces when Esperanza and her mother receive a dreadful news that her father has been killed . Now Esperanza's mother is left with a difficult decision to ether remarry her husbands brother or live in the streets homeless. Esperanzas life takes another turn when her mother informs her that they will leave Mexico and start their new lives in the United States. With the help of their life time friends and workers, they flee to the United States to look for work . Now Esperanza must learn how to use her hands to work in the fields to help her mother with all the expenses. Pam Munoz describes detail by detail how Esperanza must learn how to survive in the new country she has just arrived at. Not now how to even give her self a shower , now she must learn to work in the freezing mornings and drastic heat and sand storms that the desert brings in. Esperanza Rising caches your heart and soul just by reading the cover page. Never knowing what may come next , Pam moves your feelings in only a such short story. This book glues the readers hands to it and wont let you put it down until the last word.I personally relate to this story. My mother was an immigrant coming from Mexico , leaving behind her family just to feed her children. My mother is not the first nor the last of the same story that keeps going and repeating every single day. many men and women leave their families and country just to find a better feature for their children and themselves. Some succeed and others don't even make it to see another day .
Rating: Summary: Poetic writing, beautiful story of hope... Review: I am very excited to find the author, Pam Munoz Ryan. Her writing is very poetic, the imagery stunning, the content strong and stirring, and the plot always moving. I love to read stories of hope, courage, faith and family, and this story is one of the finest examples. Every 20 pages or so will leave you in tears, yet the emotional content never turns "sappy", or "fake". Too many stories for youth today seem so overly-realistic, dark, devoid of hope - not so with "Esperanza Rising". It is history, it is reality, and it will light you up inside!
Rating: Summary: Pam Munoz Ryan's best!!!! Review: This book is one of the best I have ever read. It is about a girl-Esperanza (the Spanish word for hope)- who is forced to move off her prosperous ranch to work in the fields. It is an inspirational story about strong girls. After I finished reading it, I just sat there thinking about how hard it must have been for Esperanza-I won't give away any of the plot-to survive. I would recomend this book to anyone 8 and above. I don't want to make it seem as though it is a quick read, or not for any one over 11-I have even told my mom that she has to read it! This is one of the best books I have read!!

Rating: Summary: A new look at an old theme Review: Esperanza Ortega, the main character in Ryan's novel Esperanza Rising, had a luxurious life as a member of the upper class in Mexico, complete with servants and beautiful clothing. After her father's death, she and her mother must leave their ranch and grandmother to work on a large California farm. It is a difficult life for Esperanza, a fourteen year old who has done little hard work during her life and is accustomed to the advantages of wealth. Despite all that she must overcome, Esperanza becomes more compassionate and matures throughout the story, learning to value family and friends, and to never give up hope. Her story is told in flowing, simple language that appeals to children without bieng confusing. Ryan also uses Spanish phrases in the dialogue and narrative to make the situations more realistic. This common theme in children's books is displayed in a new light through Esperanza's experiences in her new country.
Rating: Summary: Mija Esperanza Review: Esperanza Rising is a good book. I almost cried when Abuelita came to California. Miguel has a caring heart for anyone. He knew Esperanza and Mama needed Abuelita. Isabel is a very nice girl. She told Esperanza how to take care of Lupe and Pepe. Marta is not very nice. The way she told Esperanza about the camp and how she called Esperanza 'Cinderella'. I don't like her. Esperanza is wonderful. Even though her father died, she still had a caring heart. I recomend this book to all girls!
Rating: Summary: Esperanza Rising-Review written by:Joanna Sammis Review: I recomend Esperanza Rising to anyone who loves to read about Spanish history, or about the California worker camps. In this book you will desperately fall in love with the charactors; especially Abulita. To make you feel better about possibly buying this book, at my school's book fair there was about 18 of those books, and everyone got sold except for two-which one is mine, and the other is the school's library! You will absolutely have tons of mixed feelings about this book, because the moods change from sad, to happy, to adventurous, to thrilling. I also reconmend if you like this book you will also enjoy some of Pam Munoz Ryan's other books, because they all have to do mostly with teens!

Rating: Summary: Which book? Esperenza Rising? It's ok... Review: Let me start by saying that reading is not my favorite thing to do. I read books maybe one a month. When I chose one, I usually pick one where it sounds interesting. The summary the reviews, and so on are all good. Esperenza had that, but was it a good book? Not really no. It was ok, but Esperenza was nice to begin with! It says a snobby girl turns sweet when her father dies. She didnt change! Nothing happened to her! There was no point. It was all in all a ok book, but I do NOT reccomend it. .
