Rating: Summary: Fun to read, even for an adult Review: Don't look here for big huge plots -- this book is a slice-of-life book about daily life in a pioneer family. There's no plot to speak of, so I'm not sure a small child's attention would be captured by this sort of writing. However, for me, an adult who grew up with these books, it's almost like a return to a simpler, easier time, when your worst fear was wolves.I probably plow through the entire series, from "Big Woods" to the "On the Road Home", once a year. As a bonus, I've taken up a number of handcrafts, and the information in "Big Woods", among other books, has helped me enormously in my endeavors to live more simply. I really think all kids should be exposed to this book. The family values in it are commendable, and the writing is easy to understand at a kid level. But be prepared to work with the child on this book.. they're barraged with explosions and shapechanging robots, so they may need a little help to appreciate a calmer, quieter work like this.
Rating: Summary: Lindsay's Review Review: "The Little House in the Big Woods" is an excellent book. I liked the book a lot because the author made me feel like I was part of the story. He gave really good details and didn't make the story too difficult to understand. The story was interesting because I got to learn about how other people live their lives. I really enjoyed reading "The Little House in the Big Woods".
Rating: Summary: Great Book! Review: This book was the best!I'm reading all of all of the Laura Wilder books. It's about the older days of kids' life.I hope that you will buy it! I liked it a lot!:)
Rating: Summary: Interesting plot, boring language Review: The plot of this first book on the series is very interesting and it gives a good picture of what life was in those years for a girl growing up as a pioneer. However Laura Ingalls Wilder's language sounds as it was intended for younger children: lots of repetitions, small kids words... But, maybe, she wanted us to think as she used to think at those times, and she was very small.Anyway, I think that this book should be read by any American and it also should be read by anyone studying AMerican Literature or the Anerican Culture.
Rating: Summary: Little House In The Big Woods Review By Jessica Review: Have you ever wondered what it was like in the old days? Well, here is a book you could read because Mrs. Wilder tells plenty of details. If you want a book that you can't put down for any occasion this is the book you should buy. I think Lura & Mary really set good exampel for little girls. My favorite part was when the Ingalls went to Grandpa's dance and the way she told details about her aunts getting ready for the dance. Like the way she told how they smoothed their hair and parted it. This is one of my favorite books that I've read so far. No matter how old you are you can still read this book for lots of excitement. Right now my class and I are reading this.but we haven't finished it yet but I know lots about it.
Rating: Summary: Frontier Life - Easy Reading Review: This autobiographical account of Laura Ingall was made famous by the TV series "Little House on the Prairie." It is the first in a series of award-winning easy reading books for children that will introduce many facets of frontier life long since extinct. Another story that is very similar is "The Children of Noisy Village," which tells about children growing up in Sweden at about the same time as Ingall's adventures in Wisconson. "Anne of Green Gables" is another one, but for a slightly older audience.
Rating: Summary: Great book Review: This is the first book of the 'Liitle House'series, and tells about the Ingalls family's lives in the Wisconsin woods. The story is told from the point of view of Laura, their second daughter, and reflects her age in the language and stories she tells us - her most memorable Christmas memory is Charlotte, her first 'real' doll. Even though this book might appear childish at first, it tells a lot about people's lives back then, and the sort of day to day house keeping and tasks they had to face. This will definitely appeal to all people who are interesterd in that point of view about history.
Rating: Summary: The amazing review of The Little House in the Big Woods Review: I like this book because it takes you back to the 1800s.It has some funny parts when Ma slaps the bear trying to move it out of the way thinking its the horse.I also thought that when they sloudered the pig and learning how they done things was cool.If you enjoy reading books from the old days then you will enjoy reading this book.
Rating: Summary: I Vote it Number One! Review: In the 1870's there was a little cozy house. In it there lived the Ingalls family including Ma, Pa, Mary, Carrie, and Laura, who is the main character in the story. Even though the house and yard require a lot of work, the family always does something fun that makes the work seem exciting. Their cousins come to spend Christmas with the Ingalls family. They also go to their grandma and grandpas's house for a family dance. In one part of the story, Ma slapped a bear thinking it was a cow! In another part, Pa got a big, thick stick and ran after a bear and started hitting it. A few minutes after, he found out it was a burnt down stump in the shape of a bear. This is a great book, and I think you should read it! I vote it number one!
Rating: Summary: Little House in the Big Woods Review: This has been one of my favorite books since I was a little girl. I've read and i own ALL the Little House books that have come out so far. All the origal books by Laura Ingalls Wilder, the books about Rose, Caroline, Charlotte and Martha. I love those books but the orginal ones by Laura Ingalls Wilder are of course, the best. This book is about five year old Laura Ingalls and her sister's, seven year old Mary, adventures in the Big Woods of Wisconsin. This book is the first Little House book.
