Rating: Summary: Who's Watching? Review: Stephanie Becker is brutally murdered in her kitchen one morning while her husband is on a business trip. John Sandford founds his framework for Eyes of Prey on Stephanie's murder. Prey mainstay, Minneapolis Inspector Lucas Davenport is assigned to investigate the murder. While Stephanie's husband has a solid alibi, Lucas is not convinced he is without a hand in Stephanie's death. This is an exciting story of multiple murders and intricate webs of intrigue. Sandford carefully crafts this story to grab the reader early on and keep them holding on until the end. Well done!
Rating: Summary: Sandford at his best Review: I started at Mind of Prey, read to the end of the series, thenstarted at Rules of Prey. This is #3 in the series, which is best read in sequence (I somewhat regret not starting at Rules of Prey). This a well done work! It really has all the components -- memorable characters, suspense, and, rare for Sandford, even a little dose of mystery. Underlying the whole story is a theme of drug use, which is presented from different perspectives with a refreshingly neutral perspective. I strongly recommend this one, but after you've read the first two. The only reason I don't give it 5 stars is I reserve that rating for truly excellent books... I think this falls just a bit short of that level.
Rating: Summary: Eyes of Prey Review: This is in my opinion the best of the series so far!! Bekker is a perfect villian. He was so perfect that he made into 2 prey novels.
Rating: Summary: Davenport is amazing Review: This is the third Prey series book I'm reading and I believe I have hit the best one. I know I've become addicted to the series. It's hard to got to bed at night and just the book down! The dualism in Bekker and Cruze and their cooperation is a stroke of genius. Just out and out excellent storyline and characterization. The more I read about Davenport, the more I really enjoy reading about his life. I think he's a character who really appeals to men, judging from what I read here. But I as a women I find him a breath of fresh air from all other characters within the genre I've read so far (Scarpetta is too self-absorbed and self-congratulating; Alex Cross is fine, if a warm and fuzzy crime-fighting family man is your thing) But I just get a warm feeling reading about Davenport, his way with women, his dark humour, his style and realism. He's got a take-control, almost macho appeal combined with an intelligence and insight that we all wish we could come across in real life. Must admit I have a crush on him, just dying to read and re-read about his further adventures in the Twin Cities.
Rating: Summary: Excellent Prey Review: This is the first book of the Prey series that I read and was hooked from page one! Davenport is a tought as nails cop that plays no games. I dont' want to say to much, but the bad guy used Davenport in a cleaver way...I highly suggest that you pick this up. It will be hard to put down, it was for me.
Rating: Summary: Creepiest villian since Hannibal Lector! Review: Lucas Davenport,Sandford's unforgettable cop hero (think Dirty Harry with more intelligence) match wits with two psychopaths:one is a disfigured actor and another is handsome but twisted doctor and manipulator who has a obession with all matters of death and murder.Dr. Michael Bekker is one most sinister villians that has ever been created and this novel has nonstop action and chills!
Rating: Summary: The Wonderful Villain Review: I enjoyed Eyes of Prey mainly because of the wonderful villain. Sanford has invented an amazing character in Dr. Bekker. The other characters pale by comparison, and I only wish that the author had delved deeper into Bekker's motivations and background. I also read Silent Prey, in which the story of Bekker is continued; still not enough Bekker! If you are tired of one-dimensional "bad guys," these two books will be a treat.
Rating: Summary: Lucas & the maniacal doctor hit the streets of Minneapolis Review: This is my first Lucas Davenport book and I AM IMPRESSED! I read it in two evenings and am now reading "Silent Prey". I found the book humorous, outrageously violent and sad. Quite an array of emotions when you read Sandford. Huh? I just hope that Lucas finishes the job in "Silent Prey" that he started on Bekker in "Eyes of Prey". Bekker deserved to get the daylights beat out of him and more for what he did. I like the Lucas character despite the fact that he is so burned out and same goes for his pal Del. My only comment about Bekker is wonder what Stephanie ever saw in him. I like my males masculine, not prettier than me. I guess I will have to include Lucas Davenport on my list along with Elvis Cole, Joe Pike, and Harry Bosch.
Rating: Summary: Mixed Review: I have to add a dash of criticism to the rave reviews below. "Eyes of Prey" is the millionth thriller with a thoroughly evil, brilliant, successful serial killer. The book is OK (and the ending has a nice twist), but the genre has been worked to death. Pedestrian is the way I'd describe the novel.
Rating: Summary: Great Book, Great Series, My New Favorite Author!! Review: I love the Prey series. I love Lucas Davenport, Love John Sandford. Get the idea? Get the books but try to get them in order of publication.
