Rating: Summary: Great suspense--will keep you up at night until you finish! Review: It kept me on the edge of my seat until the end. (Or should I say the edge of my bed, because it kept me up until 3:00 AM finishing it?!) After I read this one, I bought as many of John Sandford's other books as I could find. Lucas Davenport is an intriguing and complex hero who grabbed my attention from the beginning. Highly recommended!
Rating: Summary: On the edge of your seat SUSPENSE!! Excellent!! Review: A great book, for any thrill seeker! It was wonderful. Sandford kept me holding on until the very shocking end
Rating: Summary: A solid thriller in the series Review: Eyes of Prey is the third in the Lucas Davenport series by John Sandford. In this edition, Lucas is still torn up by the ending of Shadow Prey which featured an attack in his home against himself, his lover and his child. He takes it out on a young thug by beating him senseless. Internal Affairs begins to investigate and Lucas is on a short leash as he begins to investigate the murder of Stephanie Becker.
As it is with many Prey books, we know who the killer is. Except in this case, there are two killers. Two evil men decided to try and idea they gleaned from a movie where they each take turns killing each other's problem person. Carlo Druze kills Becker's wife and Becker kills Druze's boss. There are problems however when their is a witness to Becker's wife's murder, an unknown lover.
Meanwhile, there are more killings. Becker is a pathologist at the university hospital and is constantly living in a drug induced stupor or euphoria. Druze is a scarred, damaged man easily pliable by Becker. The strength in Eyes of Prey lie in the tight police work and the characterization of the bad guys and of Lucas's decent into depression. The ending is also surprising, yet doesn't really give any clues into the forth book in the series (which retains some characters from this book).
As usual in the series, there is a lot of cussing and sleeping around. But Standford has crafted another great thriller that will keep me reading the entire series.
Rating: Summary: good stuff Review: I have read all 13 or 14 (however many there are) books in this series and this still stands as the very best. An amazing read. It is too bad he peaked so early, but the rest are all still good, just not as good as this one. The only detective - mystery books better are the Dan Simmons books about ex-con detective Joe Kurtz. Some are better than others, but they are all good. Highly reccommended.
Rating: Summary: Hold onto your hat Review: I just started the Prey series a couple of weeks ago and I must say these books are great!! Eyes of prey is so creepy. Since reading the book I have become more aware of my surrounding when walking out to the car in the parking lot. Who knows there might be a Carlos Druze out there waiting and watching. It just gives me the creeps. Michael Bekker is just a flat out crazy, drugged up, psycho. The end has a litle twist to it that I like....I kept wondering if we would ever find out who "Loverboy" was and you do....on the last page. This is one of those books that once you start you have to just keep going. It's so hard to put down. If you haven't read any other of the prey series books then start from the beginning and go from there because the books build on each other.
Rating: Summary: Stumbled upon this prey... Review: I read numerous books and, up until now, haven't read any of the prey series. I was suspect at first, since I'm in academics, I thought this series might be poorly written--as are some popular novels that seem to fly off the book shelves. Having been skeptical at first, I was floored by Sandford's writing and ability to place you right beside Lucas Davenport, and watch the fast-paced plot unravel. Lucas is a self-destructive character that seems to come out smelling like a rose by the end of the book. As of now there are 14 Prey novels, and I have purchased all of them--after reading Eyes of Prey, of course. Eyes of Prey is acutally the third book in the series and catches up with Davenport as he is chasing a killer that has a nasty habit of taking the eyes from his victims. The pace of the book is fast, and the plot is peppered with so many twists and turns that you will be unable to stop reading--I read the book in two days. Davenport is the type of character that keeps you wanting more as you finger each page, anticipating the next exciting plot-twist. I would recommend that you pick up all of the prey books, but start at the beginning--I unfortunatley did not. 14 in all and here are the books in order: RULES OF PREY SHADOW PREY EYES OF PREY SILENT PREY WINTER PREY NIGHT PREY MIND PREY SUDDEN PREY SECRET PREY CERTAIN PREY EASY PREY CHOSEN PREY MORTAL PREY NAKED PREY--just released this year!!!
