Rating: Summary: One GREAT book! Review: Hay is this one great book or what. Doent even think about that - it IS a GREAT book. But it still aint the whole storey. When you get done here reed "Fast Food Nation" by Eric Schlosser and see the great way that American business is spreading THE American Way all over the world. There aint NOTHING as great as American liberty, a\nd there aint nobody got the right to say different.
Rating: Summary: Inspiring Review: This book reads a lot like Sean Hannity's radio show, so you can almost hear Hannity delivering his messages in his voice. Hannity, like Rush Limbaugh and more recently Ann Coulter, is villified by so-called liberals for his conservative views. As far as the broadcasting and writing approach is concerned, Hannity isn't the entertainer Limbaugh is, nor is he as brusque as Coulter. But he wears his heart on his sleeve as he makes clear his ideals, and he makes his points in an honest, straight-forward way. Sure, he asks tough questions of those he disagrees with. And among his best points are that in this country, we have a right to disagree with each other--something which isn't tolerated at all in other parts of the world. But Hannity is the first to admit when his own party is in the wrong, and he never resorts to the name-calling and demonism which so often bog down political discourse these days. And that's refreshing. The book jacket is cloaked in red, white and blue, and one of Hannity's chief goals for writing the book is to illustrate the sacrifices our military has made for us over the years to keep our country strong and free. He states that it's crucial that our children learn of these sacrifices and of what people like Hannity's own grandfather went through as an Irish Catholic immigrant to reach this country safely and then find success here. Hannity takes strong issue with those who insist on bashing our country's freedoms and trying to quash them. He also cites numerous examples of how symbols like our nation's flag, pledge of allegiance and Declaration of Independence (not to mention our country's history) are being derided, ignored, tarnished and rewritten to suit political agendas and correctness at the expense of the ideals our country was built upon. He makes an awfully strong case for putting aside partisan politics when it comes to issues of national security, since countries hostile toward us are likely to make use of the internal bickering--and already have. There are those who won't read this book because Hannity makes clear his views on the importance of freedom, religion and self-sufficient people in a capitalist society. But to reject this book because of his conservative views is a huge mistake, because it serves as a most instructive reminder about the efforts of previous generations to insure that we have the right to debate and disagree as we do. Highly recommended, especially for those who have a negative view of this country. And recommended as well because of its capacity to teach patriotism--and yes, tolerance--to our young people.
Rating: Summary: Can you count the falacies Review: While reading Hannity's book I came across many falacies. I;m not surprised by them since they would be there if a liberal wrote a book but they should be pointed out. First of all Sean goes off on Clintons cheating without mentioning the number of Republicans that had extramarital affairs. He calls Clinton a scumbag for pergery while he hails Poindexter a hero who also pergered himself before congress. He mentions Linda Cahvez and Pete Wilson and their views on immigration without mentioning their own use of illegal immigrants for work. He says that liberals are wrong to say they're pro-choice, shouldnt conservatives be wrong to say they're pro life when they support the death penalty? Finally he mentions how Fox News is balanced and fair, this is coming from the same station whose reporter (Riveira) lied about his reporting in Afghanistan. It wouold be nice to find a real balanced book and one that is slanted to one political side.
Rating: Summary: taking the book on its own merit Review: I will readily admit that most of these reviews will depend on the reviewer's politics. However, I read this book fully wanting to understand it on its own terms and not let my opinion be effected by any obvious disagreement I might have. With that said, I will extremely agree with fellow reviewers that there is not a single thread in this book that can be considered the basis of a logical argument. As a student persuing a doctorate in philosophy I believe that an argument must prove itself and not simply rely on the beliefs of the target audience. The ideas and arguments here are simply meant for people who already agree with them and need no reason for rational thought. This is a very foolish way to discourse indeed. All it amounts to is rhetoric and propaganda for the right. This is something I simply cannot stand no matter if it is propaganda for the right, left or whatever absurd lables people will make up to make themselves feel superior. It's a given that media celebrities are not the best writers, they just get the largest book deals. In the end this is the same non sense I cannot stand about Rush and fundementalists. They have an ultimate high opinion of themselves and feel no need to prove their arguemnt because everyone should just accept that it is correct. Present a decent right-winged argument without sounding like a lunatic and I'll be happy to review it positively and with an open mind. This certainly doesn't even come close. On a side note-this is where I will consider my own politics-when exactly has this country exemplified these 'values' Mr. Hannity argues for? If being a patriot means not questioning things like this more closely, then the right can keep the title, I'd rather have free thought. There is no point in independance otherwhise. I won't even get into the absurdities of the so called war on terror. Not a single person-certainly not Mr. Hannity-has provided a rational argument for why we should have a war with Iraq. This I say considering there hasn't been any agression launched by them in the region or against us in some time. On the contrary, we feel the need to bomb them at will for whatever pointless reasons we make up. Nor has any proof been offered that they have these weapons that may or may not be somewhat equal to our own. Enough of my soap box, to sum it up, this is one of the worst books I have read in years.
Rating: Summary: Another killed tree for the waste of paper!!!!!! Review: Interesting to see fundamentalists at work! just the same ideology that drives terrorists Sean! There is a huge difference between patriotism and one sided chauvinism. The writer is right about one thing though liberalism is evil. But so is his ethnocentric right winger style of freedom. Thank God I borrowed the book from a library!!!!!!!! My advice, You could do the same
Rating: Summary: A man who speaks for the Average American Citizen Review: What can one say? Sean will be hated by the left and attacked as are so many others who speak the truth of the American social, political, judicial and economic situations America finds itself in due to the influences of those who care little for real Americans and real problems, but a great deal about power, control and oppression. Sean Hannity speaks for the common man and woman, the average American citizen, the silent but suffering true mainstream entity in a world of the rich, famous and the powerful left. All that he says in this book does represents the raging frustrations held inside a great many Americans, well at least three quarters of them. One quarter of the America people is left, one quarter is right, one quarter is too young to vote or care, and the other quarter is too disinterested or disgusted to participate. Screaming about who has the most popular vote is just a bunch of smoke and mirrors, because the above analysis is the truth. That means that nearly 70 million people who could vote do not vote. Certainly enough to be the true deciders of the political agenda in America. Add to them the multiple millions of American Servicemembers deployed around the world who do not get to vote and any percieved popular mandate would seem insignificant by the left. Sean wrote a fine book here, worthy of review by both sides, and it is an interesting, yes compassinate conservative, and slightly abrasive book. But no worse than out there from either side. He simply tries to counter the bias, we the people, see twenty-four seven in the many forms of media, intertainment and news that get sent into our homes every day. "Let Freedom Ring" is a quick and easy read, meaningfull and touching. I applaud Sean for adding this to the list of books on the market to help America find itself. Great Job Sean. I am anxiously awaiting Sean's counterpart Allan's book, which must surely be in the making. I am sure it will be a good read as well.
Rating: Summary: It's fluff Review: Let me start by saying that I am a huge Sean Hannity fan. I grew up listening to his radio show here in NY and was eagerly looking forward to reading this book. Despite my agreement with much of Hannity's philosophy, this book simply doesn't cut it. The writing style is choppy, the citation style is misleading at times, and the book fails to articulate a central theme other than "Liberals are bad, and Bill Clinton is especially bad." The transition from chapter to chapter is at times non-existant. I hope readers don't judge this book (or this review) simply based on whether they agree with the author's political philosophy. Just because someone has the right ideas does not mean they can articulate them effectively in every forum. Recent works by Ann Coulter and Pat Buchanan make similar points but are immensely more entertaining, better written, and more thoroughly cited. Despite the fact that Liberals are a central target of this book, Hannity never effectively defines for the reader what a Liberal is. Compare this to Buchanan who delves deeply into the origins of today's Liberal ideology by introducing the reader to the writings of Marcuse and Gramsci. I suspect this book was more the result of Sean's burgeoning popularity (his radio show is now nationally syndicated) than any innovative thoughts that crossed the author's mind motivating him to write. Hannity knew he had a built-in audience and thus writing even the most intellectually shallow work would generate a huge return. For an adoring listener like myself, this was immensely disappointing.
Rating: Summary: A "Screed Read" Indeed Review: I have read Mr. Hannity's book...and much like it. I recommend his book to the likes of Maxine Waters, Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton. Their arguments are often the exact opposite of Mr. Hannity's but their style of communication, polemical tone and self-righteous air of infallibility are exactly the same. Mr. Hannity reminds me of Democratic talk show regulars like the aforementioned fearsome threesome who think that partisan parody is the same as political commentary. This book, like so much else which passes for political analysis today, is as intellectually informed, honest and unbiased as are "Cross-Fire," Cross Fire's growing number of imitators and political talk shows nationwide. This kind of "in your face genre" has more to do with provoking than informing, with scoring points than with making them. Whether from the right or the left, "gotcha political arguments" are getting increasingly tiresome as they become increasingly prevalent. If you were skimming through and reading only "favorable" five star reviews..."Gotcha."
Rating: Summary: Libertarians beware Review: Sean Hannity's rise to stardom is a complete mystery to me. I wouldn't have thought there would be a market for yet another apologist for the big government 2 party system, yet here we have it again. There is nothing new in this book that you wouldn't find in Ann Coulter's drivel, Rush Limbaugh's two unimportant works, or any other "right wing" popular authors. The difference is that at least Rush sounds somewhat intelligent, Hannity doesn't even make the effort. What disappoints me most as a libertarian is that jokers like Hannity keep saying they love freedom, yet continue to support a party that continuously delivers big government intrusion in our lives. Any thinking person who loves freedom should be able to see through this facade. Debating Liberal vs Conservative, Democrat vs Republican is a distraction from the real war. The war of big government vs limited government. Both main parties heavily benefit from keeping the government at it's huge size. There is no incentive for them to reduce it. Not unless we the people get rid of these folks and install people who will restore true freedom. Please don't waste your money on this book and line the pockets of the big government pimps. Heed the words of Thomas Jefferson "wise and frugal government, which shall restrain men from injuring one another, which SHALL LEAVE THEM OTHERWISE FREE TO REGULATE THEIR OWN PURSUITS OF INDUSTRY AND IMPROVEMENT" (Emphasis mine)
Rating: Summary: I like Sean, hated the book! Review: I read the first 100 pages and the last ten. If this book can be number one on a book list, I am encouraged to write a book, myself. Read the Amazon[.com] excerpt's and save your money, or, just turn on the radio to Hannity's show and you'll get the book. As a fellow New Yorker, I had to give an extra "star."
