Rating: Summary: Quit Bashing Suzanne's Diary For Nicholas Review: Although this book is predictable, it is still a touching love story which is very well-written. This book reduced me to tears and reduced my mother to tears on two occasions. Just because it's predictable doesn't mean it won't suck you in and make you feel the character's emotions. If you like James Patterson, if you like stories about love, or if you just enjoy a good book, I recommend Suzanne's Diary For Nicholas.
Rating: Summary: THIS is a bestselling author?!! Review: I have to admit I haven't read any of James Patterson's other books. (And after this, I don't intend to!) I only read this one because I was desperate for something to read while I waited for my daughter to take her road test, and grabbed it from the bestsellers section at the store. Not only is it simplistic in plot and characterization, it is written in the vernacular of an adolescent girl. I mean, really, do we care that the characters are watching Aly McBeal or that Carly Simon is dining with them at the restaurant on Martha's Vineyard? Or that Katie (our diary reader) is "ravishing" and ever so tall? I am not a romance novel fan, but I would hope that a bestselling author could come up with more sophisticated, meaningful vocabulary, plot development and characterization. Having said all that, I did keep reading, maybe just because I'd bought the silly thing, and without revealing the highly predictable ending, I will say it was far too sad for a sappy little summer read. If you want a great summer read about women's feelings and lives, read the Secret Life of Bees instead!
Rating: Summary: Too predictable Review: I was hoping this would be more of an interesting story, I was quite disappointed to find out that it was a basic and very sad story. It was also quite predictable. I had expected to discover a more complex, and less sad story.
Rating: Summary: character flaws Review: I wanted to like this book. I read it in a day, pushing through chapter after chapter just to see how it would end. But, in the end, I didn't care nearly enough about the characters. I believe it's because of what one reviewer already mentioned - one dimensional, idealistic characters. It was mildly entertaining, but I didn't finish with much to keep me thinking about. I like the concept of the book - diary entries that a character is reading, but I found the characters overaly idealized. I've never read any of Patterson's other novels, but I know this one is unique in its genre. I'm guessing since he's such a successful author, it's also unique in its flat characters.
Rating: Summary: Worth your time... Review: I just finished this book late last night... couldn't put it down. I'll admit, it's a little sappy, but what's so wrong with enjoying reading about true, passionate love? If you can keep in mind that this is a novel, then you will truly enjoy the story - and appreciate the many ways that both Suzanne and Katie are in love. And you just can't go wrong with a James Patterson book - regardless of the story line!
Rating: Summary: Very Good Book!!! Review: James Patterson's SUZANNE'S DIARY FOR NICHOLAS was a great book. The books fools you in many ways to make the ending seem better than ever! I couldn't put this book down! You just want to keep reading on and on in the diary and want to find out what Katie thinks about it all. For about the last 30 or so pages, all I could end up doing was to cry. It's so heartfelt and such a great story about how much a mother could love her child. And...don't begin to think that Matt is some two-timing snake!!! You'll soon find out he isn't!
Rating: Summary: Good grief (no pun intended) this was bad! Review: I received this book from a really good friend of mine. She told me that if I didn't cry I was heartless. Well, guess what? I'm heartless. It turns out that not only did I NOT cry, I had the "tragedy" figured out by the second chapter. As a woman, I am horribly offended that the author thought that this is the kind of rubbish that women want to read. As a reader, I am horribly offended that this book was published. Don't get me wrong, I'm not a pseudo-intellectual who thinks that light works of fiction are worthless and that the only books of value are Moby Dick and War and Peace. I read all genres and I loved the Notebook by Nicholas Sparks, but his was just bad. At first I only had to read a couple of words, phrases, or sentences per page to get the idea. After a while I only read a few words every couple of chapters. The characters were boring and predictable and wanted to make me wretch. I swear to God, if I have to read another story about some ridiculously handsome and handy man on Martha's Vineyard I am going to give up reading all together. And Suzanne.....is this woman just stupid? Remind me to make sure that MY doctor is not risking pregnancy after pregnancy with a heart condition, because if that is the case I definately do not want her giving me medical advice. After the torture of reading this book was over I was surprised at how strongly I felt about it. I have read A LOT of books in my day and of course some were better than others, but this is the first one that I felt compelled to help other people avoid! I have never written a review of a book before. Do yourself a favor! Don't buy or borrow this book. If you want to waste a few hours of your time you can come to my house and clean instead! Scrubbing toilets would be more enjoyable than reading this book!
Rating: Summary: Short and Sweet Review: I really enjoyed this book. I was hooked from the beginning to the end. Very touching. Give it a read!
Rating: Summary: A compelling, emotional roller coaster!! Couldnt put it down Review: This novel plays like a well tuned guitar. I was rivoted to my couch for one day and didnt put it down till it was finished. The diary entrances from a mother to her son is so emotionally compelling and draining. This is not your typical Patterson novel--kudos to him for being able to bring out such strong emotions. This is a must read.
Rating: Summary: Awful Review: This is a very sappy book. The characters are one dimensional and the relationships are completely unbelievable. It is a very easy read but is not worth spending your time and money on.
