Rating: Summary: Incredibly Touching! Review: This book is so very touching on so many levels. Getting a glimpse into the love that these two people shared was very special. Hearing in Nancy's own words what it took to stay and grow in love was definitely heartwarming. I thoroughly enjoyed this book.
Rating: Summary: Anything For A Buck! Review: How typical this book is of the Reagans. During their term in the White House the Reagans made no secret of their love of money, and after Reagan's term of office was over he would go anywhere and appear before any group -- regardless of ideology -- so long as the paycheck was big enough. Since that recourse to riches is no longer possible, Mrs. Reagan exploits her ill husband by publishing his personal letters to her over the years. Why? The letters provide no new insight into Reagan's personality. It's been common knowledge for decades that Reagan was emotionally dependent upon Nancy. There's no reason for this book other than to cash in and make a quick buck. How sad.
Rating: Summary: They don't make men like him anymore..... Review: This is not normally a book I would read, but after seeing Mrs. Reagan on Larry King I decided to give it a try. I was not dissapointed. The beauty in which Ronald Reagan wrote to his wife is a lesson for all men. Sometimes the best gifts are those fromthe heart. It was also wonderful to have a background on the emtions and events taking place durnings these letters.I for one thank Mrs. Reagan for sharing such a private side to their marriage it is a lesson for us all.
Rating: Summary: Happy Ever After Review: You're only going to read this book if you have a real affection for Ronnie and Nancy. If you hate 'em, or if love letters make you reach for a stiff drink, don't bother. The remarkably personal letters, written over a 40 year period, help set the historical record straight. Nancy was undoubtedly the secret of Ronnie's success in life and his pillar of strength during his presidency in the 1980s. Sincerity oozes from each and every one of them. Perhaps the most moving section is the narrative of the 1990s and the sensitivity of the Alzheimer's issue. After all, Ronnie is the most famous guy in history to have the degenerative disease. His family's suffering has made us all much more aware of the medical dimension. If you are sentimental, the final two pictures showing Ronnie in 1998 and 2000, will bring a tear to your eye.
Rating: Summary: Enough, Already! Review: I cannot disagree with most of the reviews posted on this site, relative to my first impressions of this book. I think the basic idea of the theme is something that interests us all, regarding our former very public figures. However, the more I read, the more I read the same thing, over, and over, and over. There were inconsistencies in Mrs. Reagan's accountings that were not really important, but I think her editor could have guided her in her construction such that we weren't reading in every other sentence how Ronnie hated being away and how I (Nancy) hated not having him in sight. Other than reading the letters themselves, which were very touching and entertaining with the homespun humor that was so typical of the man, I think we learned all that we were going to learn about this couple in the first ten pages of the book. I have nothing against Mrs. Reagan; she is obviously the devoted and loving spouse that we would all aspire to be, or to have. But this book should have been much less repetitive in its ongoing theme. The sweetness becomes syruppy and then sickly sweet as it is continually poured out by the bucketful.
Rating: Summary: And Juan Peron loved Evita, too... Review: And, like the Peron's the Reagans' rule was a kleptocracy in which the middle class got poorer, the rich got richer, and the poorest of all got crack. This book is kind of like that Yoko Ono album with the picture of John Lennon's glasses on the cover. Don't read this book- go see Evita, and do a mad libs, and you'll get the same feeling as that witch (the one true witch) comes up with here. Just say NO to Nancy Reagan.
Rating: Summary: Oh...what a feeling! Review: I kind of knew the Reagans were in love...however this book truly shows the depth! President Reagan was never afraid of showing his true feelings towards the woman he loves! It is heart-warming, and touching to see how this man cared. Mrs. Reagan, thank you so very much for sharing your letters, notes and cards. They are truly treasures!
Rating: Summary: God Bless the Reagans Review: If you believe in love, believe in this book.
Rating: Summary: Sniff sniff....where's my Ronnie? Review: This book is wonderful! Such a sweet sappy book.....a great bubble bath read! :) I recommend it to anyone....gives you hope that there are true romantics out there like myself. Many of the letters made me reach for my kleenex box!!!
Rating: Summary: LOVE LETTERS STRAIGHT FROM THE HEART Review: The actress and the actor who became President. This is a heart-warming close-up look at this larger than life couple. Nancy and Ron Reagan made the transition from entertainment stars to political stars without losing their love and their connection to humanity. We are allowed to read their "love letters" which are intimate, warm, and engaging. "Without you, there would be no sun, no moon, no stars. With you, they are all out at the same time", Ron write to Nancy. And to the american people, he describes his progressive deteriorating condition resulting from Alzheimer's disease. He writes that he hoped the country would help Nancy "face it with faith and courage". These are love letters straight from the heart spanning 50 years of their life together.
