Summary: Full of straightforward charm!
Review: This book is full of the straightforward charm for which Ronald Reagan was well known while in the Governor's mansion and the White House. From the sometimes mundane details of a loving couple's life to the touching glimpses of a great man's soul, this compilation of letters gives us a moving look at the man behind the public persona. Unlike the numerous biographies and quasi-biographies that recount Reagan's life and times, this work simply exudes the straightforward, confident and honest values that lay at the heart of the President's life.

Summary: What an amazing tribute.....
Review: Nancy Reagan has created a wonderful, heartfelt tribute to her husband and their love for each other. This book is a poignant tribute to the power of true love. Reagan's words to his wife were moving and touched my heart deeply. In everything that he did, no matter how big or small, he remembered what mattered most, and it is apparent that Nancy was present during every moment of his life. He was not afraid to show his love and devotion for his wife and to me that is yet another remarkable quality from a remarkable man.

Summary: GREAT LOVE STORY
Review: seldom read books written by celebrities as too often they are only self serving pap. HOWEVER, this is one of the greatest love stories of all times. Hard to imagine that a man who led such a busy life would find the time, inclination and energy to put his thoughts in writing. A greater gift I can't imagine. The thoughts that occurred to me were the minor things that made him and Nancy so happy with each other and with themselves. My husband was in the Air Force and was gone a lot and was constantly in touch with me either by phone or letter so I know how much it means to have someone thinking of you even when they are so busy and so far away.Thank you Nancy for sharing these intimate parts of your life with us. You have a wonderful husband and I am so sorry you have lost him. But in his own way somehow I know he is still communicating with you.

Summary: Very sweet book
Review: As a 35 year old professional woman, I find myself more thoughtful of things that have gone out of style - one of them, being handwritten love notes or memos. Email may be nice but somehow I cannot see it having quite the same effect as a personal handwritten note. Ronnie & Nancy are fabulous together and it didn't matter when or how. They always made and found time for each other. Very sweet and romantic book.

Summary: moving book
Review: I loved this book. I couldn't put it down after I started it. It makes you realize how important it is to put your thoughts on paper. My husband and I always wrote to each other the three years we dated, but after that we quit. After 21 years of marriage,I am going to start again.

Summary: Unadulterated Devotion
Review: Were there a man who wrote from the road such letters of lovely adoration, I would be incline to think he should never come home. This book is a delight to anyone with a spirit for romance or a compulsive need to engage words on the page. I've a number of books with letter collections, but none so captures the rich pleasure of simple, unadulterated devotion as does this.

In a short note to Nancy (page 57), Ronnie explains that Feb 14th "is for people of ordinary luck," whereas he happens to have "a Valentine Life." His dexterity in expressing this one theme over the decades is astonishing. In a note apologizing for his mood (page 102), Ronnie says that every time he "sees the evening star ... he thinks the same wish - a prayer really - that so much happiness will go on and somehow be deserved." Near the end of the book (page 188), in the heart of his letter to "My Fellow Americans" announcing his Alzheimer diagnosis, Ronnie says, "I intend to live the remainder of the years [given me] doing the things I have always done. I will continue to share life's journey with my beloved..."

Words expressed with regularity give power to ideas. Given the wealth of letters from Ronnie to Nancy, it is no surprise their commitment never wavered. As a side note I urge you to consider the hard cover: The black and white photo showing Ronnie and Nancy - together, in synchronized step -- seems a perfect reflection of their journey.

Summary: If You Want to Know What Makes a Good Marriage - Read This
Review: I loved this book. There was little commentary by Nancy so you're left to judge him for yourself. The vast majority of the book is composed of the actual letters he wrote to her and what woman wouldn't love to have a husband say these things to her?? I also appreciated that she put in a couple of non-positive occurances and verbiage that things weren't always perfect. The other thing I liked was that she wasn't embarrassed by their pet nick-names they had for each other. I've been married and my late husband and I had silly nick-names for each other. I'd be embarrassed to tell them publically in a book so I admire that she spent about two sentences explaining them and let it go at that. If you want to understand a truly loving relationship (no matter what your politcal views), this is a must read.

Summary: Reading some of the rotten reviews has really
Review: made me mad. But whereas I might get mad or Nancy would be furious, Ronnie would laugh it off as "they're just having a bad day." This was the type of marriage we hope for, dream about, talk about. It is the kind most kids want to see from their parents, the type parents desire for their children, one where they are newlyweds for 50 years. Patti Davis said she knows her father loved his children but when Nancy walked into the room, there was no one else. Just perfect!!

These letters reveal a man helplessly and deeply in love with all his heart. If this is corny or childish, so be it. The world would be a better place if relationships could be this strong. He says it over and over, "You are my life, you saved my soul." The President could wax poetic and plumb the depth of emotions, something few ever manage. The letters were not only loving and tender but also erudite, witty, colorful and quite original. (My favorites are those written in the same room or those in which he refers to himself in the third person.) This is perhaps one of the best personal portraits of an American President that exist.

The letters range over a period of several years and contain some biographical data. Just to set the record straight, the proceeds from this book went to an Alzheimer's fund; the family received not one penny.

Summary: Beautiful Glimpse into the Private Life of Ronald Reagan
Review: What a warm, touching tribute to our late President from his wife! The letters lovingly saved by Nancy Reagan show us a portrait of a genuine, down-to-earth man. I just finished reading this book for the second time, (it's a very quick read), and I was reminded how much I enjoyed the book. Mr. Reagan's integrity, charm, and sense of humor are clearly evident in every letter and "doodle" in the book.

More than half of the letters are from the period before Reagan entered politics. For several years, Reagan was the host of the General Electric Theatre and spent huge amounts of time travelling the country to promote the show. The letters from this period are particularly poignant.

Thank you so much, Nancy Reagan, for sharing your treasures in this lovely book.
