Rating: Summary: Frindletastic Review: Frindle wasn`t the best book we read, but it wasn`t the worst either. We liked the idea that Nick called a pen a frindle. We think it wasn`t fair that Nick had to stay after school for saying his creative word frindle.Mrs.Granger was Nick worst enemy in the beginning, but things change. We reccomend this book to young inspired readers that like funny books.
Rating: Summary: Next New Word Review: The book "Frindle" is a fairly good book. Nick Allen was a creative boy in fifth grade who invents a new word for pen: frindle. Soon the whole school starts to use the word frindle except for fifth grade language teacher, Mrs.Granger, the meanest, oldest, teacher in the world. I rated this book only four stars because one section was boring, otherwise, it was a good book.

Rating: Summary: Great Book Review: A lot of time we ponder in life over questions. In this book a boy ponders over the question of how different words got named what they are. In Andrew Clemets well written book for young elementary school children he brings to life the story of a boy who starts a trend. Instead of calling a pen a pen he calls it a Frindle. The only problem is that his teacher is against him making up that name.
Rating: Summary: Funny Book Review: Frindle is about a kid who calls pens frindles and gets his friends to do the same. This book is funny and I enjoyed reading it!
Rating: Summary: Great gift for kids 3rd-6th grade Review: This is a great book. Not only is it entertaining and funny and a quick read, but it's one of the favorite books that I give as gifts to kids because it sends such great messages: what you learn in school matters in the "real" world; it encourages creativity and emphasizes the importance and impact one person's idea can have; it portrays a wonderful relationship between teacher and student where they both learn from each other and help each other grow. It also teaches a classroom lesson about how words are formed without making you feel tricked into learning. This is the story of a student, Nick, who decides one day to test if what he learned in school about how words are formed is true. He starts calling a pen a "frindle" and gets other students to do the same. The magnitude of the outcome is far greater than he ever expected. This book isn't just about the frindle story but about how Nick matures through this experience. Again, lots of good lessons as I mentioned above. I'm really careful about the books that I give as gifts to make sure that there are no ideas that parents would be uncomfortable with. This is 100% entertaining reading and good lessons that don't feel forced. Make sure you don't skip the chapter titles in Clements' books either-- they're pretty clever and add to the fun. (Especially in Landry News and School Story)
Rating: Summary: I'm not writing this review with my frindle Review: This is a wildly creative kids book. I have read many of Andrew Clements books and this is one of my favorites. In the book we meet, Nicholas a strongly independent 5th grader who decides to push the limits of the English language. He single handedly changes the name of a common everyday object, a ballpoint pen, to "Frindle". In turn everyone around him begins to call it that... the word takes on a life of it's own and really catches on. The action of the story comes from the conflict between Nicholas and his English teacher, Mrs. Granger. It is a battle over the sanctity of words and reality. This book is as I said, Wildly Creative! Andrew Clements seems to know kids like no other children's author. He especially knows quirky kids. This book is a fun, quick read and will have you laughing right along with Nicholas.
Rating: Summary: Not just for kids Review: First of all, this is a great book for kids. It tells an engaging story about a child who takes on the grown-ups and wins--and what child won't enjoy that sort of a story? There's more to it than just that, though. For example, I use this book as a supplemental text when I teach college courses on the history of the English language--it's useful for sparking discussions of why language changes and the attitudes people have toward language change. The ending also brings up a really important issue for studies of language change: At what point can we say that a change really has taken place? Does the change have to make it into dictionaries and grammar books, or does it happen earlier? Of course, unless you're taking one of my courses, don't spend so much time worrying about these sorts of questions--just buy this book, spend an enjoyable evening reading it, and enjoy a well-written story.
Rating: Summary: Frindle Review: This is a great realistic fiction and that teaches a life lesson for those kids who are too smart for their own good. The book is funny and entertaining for all ages. My second and third grader students in the bookclub at school really loved it. They wanted to read it over and over again.
Rating: Summary: A Different Name for Pen? Review: Do you like realistic fiction? Would you like to know about a boy who made money by making up a new word? If you do the title of this fantastic book is Frindle by Andrew Clement. The character is Nicholas Allen (Nick). He is a boy in 5th grade. The interesting thing about Nick is that he is very creative. He has freckles and red hair. This story takes place nowadays at Lincoln Elementary School. When Nick was in 3rd grade, he made his classroom into a tropical island with construction paper, but Nick had a very strict teacher in 5th grade who loved dictionary. One day, Nick invented the word frindle, which means pen. In less than a month, everyone started to use the word frindle. Nick's fifth grader teacher Ms. Granger was very upset and made every kid stay in after school.... I recommend this book because it's about a creative boy who made so much money with just 1 word! I think after you finished reading you will never forget it!
