Summary: Flat Stanley
Review: I am not a teacher so cannot of course address how well this book can be used in a classroom. But just three days ago I received a wonderfully flat package from my little niece in California (I am in Ohio) which contained a "Flat Erik" (guess they named their own little guys). I am to keep Flat Erik for two weeks and chronicle his activities then return Flat Erik, my journal and pictures to my niece. All returned Flat characters will be displayed in their classroom's open house next month.

I am thrilled to be hanging out with Flat Erik; he has already played in the snow, slept in his own little bed, gone to work and gone shopping. Just today we went to the bookstore (sorry Amazon :) and purchased a copy of Flat Stanley so that I knew what my niece had read. Of course as an adult I found the story less than entertaining but can see the attraction for kids and teachers.

I look forward to the coming two weeks with my Flat Erik.

Summary: Flat Stanley
Review: I didn't like this story because Stanley turned back to normal. I liked Stanley when he was flat because he could do lots of things. He could go under doors . He could fit in envelopes. He could go through grates. I would have liked this book better if he stayed flat.

Summary: I'm Hooked
Review: I had heard of Flat Stlanley before and although I thought the concept was cute I had never used this book in my second grade. At least not until this year. I am using it with one of my flexible reading groups. I'm absolutely hooked and the children are as well. We have posted the pros and cons of being flat and have joined in with the Flat Stanley project. This is providing so many enriching extension activities! We are now "hosting" Flat Stanleys from Ontario, Thailand, and Australia. The learning that is taking place (writing, reading, speaking, creating, geography, world cultures) is astounding. My students are constructing their own Stanleys who will be traveling around the world to be hosted in other states and countries. I will be buying more copies of this book so I can do this with my entire class next year. I purchased Stanley in Space for my reading group to move on to next. I can't believe I was not aware of how wonderful this book could be. I have been able to integrate it throughout my curriculum. HIGHLY recommended!

Summary: Flat Stanley is unforgettable!
Review: I hadn't thought of Flat Stanley in 20 years when someone in my office mentioned it the other day in a group setting when we were discussing favorite childhood books. The response was instantaneous. Images immediately replayed in my mind of Flat Stanley sliding under doors and even mailing himself in an envelope through the mail. My next instinct was to search on Amazon.com to see if Stanely could be found. Here I am a 31 year old woman sleeping easier simply because I know Stanley's still around

Summary: GREAT CHILDHOOD MEMORY!
Review: I have been debating what to get my 5 year old neice for Christmas, when out of the blue I remembered Flat Stanley! It has been about 15 years since I thought about this book. My little brother had checked it out from the library, and it was so funny that we ended up checking the book out over & over again that summer. Now when I think about Stanley's comical, but pratical, solutions to his big problem I still get a good laugh! Flat Stanley is by far the most hilarious book ever. It was such a big part of my family, that whenever any of us did something silly, my mother would quote the police officers (The ones who watched Stanley's mother lower him into the grate for her ring), "Get the hook! There's a looney on the loose! ". I am so excited I remembered this book, and I can't wait to read it again!

Summary: My most memorable childhood book experience!
Review: I loved this book till this day and always will for the creativity that was presented in all its pages. It allowed me to think beyond what the "norm" was at the time. However I remember receiving and reading this book in the spring of 1962 when I was finishing first grade(it was the prize I won for reading the most books in my class)! How did I get a copy so early?

Summary: FLAT STANLEY
Review: I think this is a GOOD book. I think it's a good book because it's such a funny fantasy. I also like the illustrations. I liked when a boy named FLAT Stanley doesn't get a drop of rain on him because he was rolled up like a sleeping bag, and his brother, Arthur, get's soaked! Another good example of this is in a picture, where Flat Stanley pretends to be a kite for his little brother. But will Flat Stanley be flat forever? Find out and read this book.

Summary: Fondly remembered from my childhood, sly clever humor!
Review: I was exposed to this book first by having a section of it in a 5th grade reading book! I didn't know for years that it was out there somewhere as a whole book, and I think finally around high school found it at the library and read the whole thing at last. Just recently I once again remembered it, and got it for my sons! I appreciate it more as an adult---the humor is so dry and the dialogue so deadpan! My favorite scene is that with Stanley's doctor---how he says of it not hurting Stanley to be flat "well, that's mostly how it is with these cases" as if he's seen hundreds of boys flattened by bulletin boards! As a child of course I liked best having Stanley sent by mail to California! I have to admit this book dragged a bit for my sons in reading it to them, but I think perhaps they are really too young for it (at 5 and 2)---but I couldn't wait to read it to them!
