Rating: Summary: Excellent, Refreshing Review: I enjoyed this book very much. The plot was interesting and refreshing
Rating: Summary: A Great Read Review: I enjoyed this book very much, it kept me entertained through the entire book.
Rating: Summary: Very entertaining - a wonderful book Review: Although I did not particularly care for the personality of the main character (Eve), this book was extremely well written and very entertaining. I enjoy reading books by this author, and though this isn't my favorite, it was still well worth the time.
Rating: Summary: Inspiration Review: This was one of the finest books I've ever read. Not only did it have a strong female lead, but the story was interesting and the plot had basis. It also inspired me to look into forensic sculpting as a career. I have read four of Iris Johansen's books (The Ugly Duckling, Long After Midnight, And Then You Die, and The Face of Deception)and I'm always looking for more because they are the first books I've read where the female isn't a screaming or simpering idiot.
Rating: Summary: Couldn't do anything until the book was read Review: This book was one of her best books. The plot, although somewhat long in developing, involved so many twists and turns that it was impossible to predict where Johansen would stop. That was what made the book so interesting, its unpredictability.
Rating: Summary: Extremely disappointing read Review: Johansen's strength seems to be dialogue, but since this novel lacks descriptive narrative and decent characterization, not even dialogue could save THE FACE OF DECEPTION. Eve Duncan, the forensic sculptor obsessed with bringing "the lost ones" (including her own daughter) home, should have been an enormously sympathetic character. Instead, her prickliness and wariness wore thin in a hurry. I never felt any sort of real connection between Eve and her men, Logan and Joe. I barely felt a connection between Eve and her mother. In short, Johansen couldn't make me care for any of the so-called protagonists. As a result, I won't be reading anymore Eve Duncan novels or anymore Johansen for that matter. If you want to read excellent serializations with strong female protagonists, I recommend J.D. Robb's In Death series, Janet Evanovich's Stephanie Plum series, or Laurell K. Hamilton's Anita Blake series.
Rating: Summary: Could't put the book down Review: This was the first book that I have read by Iris Johansen, and I thought that this book was very exciting. I liked how the author made you think that something was going to happen and the total oppostie happened. The author made this book suspenseful and I thought the total opposite was goign to happen from what really did. I look forward to reading more books by this author and hope that they are just as good as this book was.
Rating: Summary: Exciting, unpredictable, surprising, and keeps you guessing. Review: Having read a few of Ms Johansen's novels I found The Face ofDeception fabulous. Ms. Johansen gives you a nice mix of charactersthat adds a nice flavor to a very suspenseful novel. Our heroine is strong, decisive, and capable you get this message upfront and she won't disappoint you. Loved this page turner and look forward to the sequel, great read.
Rating: Summary: This is the first book I have read by Iris Johansen Review: I thought this book was good but after reading Jeffrey Deavers, its a bit slow with a warm plot, but I still liked it. I ordered "The Killing Game" anyway because its a sequel, and I thought Eve was an interesting character, sort of reminded me of Linda Hamilton in "The Terminator Part II".
Rating: Summary: Merely Average Review: After hearing all the buzz about Iris Johansen I wonder what the fuss is about. None of the characters are particularly compelling. I never felt a real connection between Eve and Logan or Joe. Disappointing. I won't pick up the 2nd installment of the Eve Duncan series.
