Rating: Summary: OK, but not great Review: I thought this book was OK, but I had expected more, since the story started out good. After about 30% of the book it just goes into this 'chase and run' story, where the funny part is that a lot of dialogue is used, and not much descriptive language (where they are and what they do), which is weird for people on the run. I like the way Dean Koontz approaches these situations: you read about more details (where people go, how they find food, where they sleep) since these are details that really make you involved in the situation. In this book, people are on the run for days, and the two (of the) main characters, Eve Duncan and John Logan, somehow must eat, or sleep, our wash themselves, but you don't read about it. Nothing about them being in rumpled clothes, or how they feel physically; their dialogue is quite predictable (she is angry with him and he has feelings for her, yeahyeah, we know it). Also, at the end I expected Eve to find what she was looking for anyway, but to my disappointment this was turned into a cliff hanger, for which I have to buy yet another book. Darn. Turnoff.
Rating: Summary: Convoluted & boring & with an unlikeable main character. Review: I have basically given up on this book. The main character, Eve, is annoying, pompous, sanctimonious and rude. It is absolutely impossible to like her or sympathize with her. I assume the author's intent was to make Eve tough and independent-minded, but it does not work. In fact, none of the characters are very likeable. The text is very heavy-handed and any real suspense is lost. This is not a good book!
Rating: Summary: no words can describe the exitement Review: the excitement was so overwhelming that i can't face the truth that i have finish reading it. no one will ever want to miss the experience of reading it.
Rating: Summary: Captivating!!! Review: This was a great book....couldn't put it down. This was the first Johansen book I've read and I cant wait to read another! This story is anything but predicable!!
Rating: Summary: Intriguing. If you like books you can't put down, read it. Review: This was my first novel by this author, and I was pleasantly pleased. The characters were well defined, no confusion as to who's who. The mystery and intrigue were continuous throughout every page. I would have chosen a different ending for her love scenario, but that's the fantasy in me. I did not find paragraphs or pages of dull, boring descriptions of places or things. They were brief, put purposeful. The story moved surely and swiftly. It was an enjoyable experience. I look forward to more of her work.
Rating: Summary: Couldn't put it down! Review: Wow...after reading the other reviews I'm glad I haven't read any of Ms. Johansen's "romance" novels. Far from slow paced, I thought the plot intricate, exciting and fast paced. Not only could I not put the book down, but when I finished it, I immediately ran out and bought the sequel (also great!). The whole reason I signed on here was to buy both this book and the sequel as birthday presents for my sister-in-law. I know she'll love them.
Rating: Summary: pretty good Review: It seems after reading other reviews that those who are fans of IJ's romance novels hated this book and those who hadn't read her other novels liked it. I'm one of the latter. Frankly, I hate romance novels and the one thing that irritated me the most about this book was the "torn between two" admirers aspect of it. One man who has evidently always loved her breaks up his marriage for her (poor wife - she's the one person I really felt sorry for) and Eve is clueless as to the fact that the new man has fallen in love with her (duh!). That part was pretty stupid. The suspense aspect of the plot was quite enjoyable, though, and the plot clever.
Rating: Summary: A Terrific Read!!!!! :) Review: I loved this book so much that I had to buy the hardcover edition! The charcater of Eve is absolutely wonderful and shattering! The story was fast and suspenseful and the romantic triangle was very gratifying!!!
Rating: Summary: A Wonderful, Wonderful story!!! Review: This is my favorite Iris Johansen storyline so far! I love the pyschological complexity of Eve and was strangely satisfied with the romantic triangle between Eve, Logan, and Joe at the end! By drawing out the resolution of Eve's well being Ms. Johansen has crated a classic character that will last longer than one installment! Great work!
Rating: Summary: Eve Duncan irritated me. Review: This was my first book by Iris Johansen. I enjoyed the book, as I usually do when I choose a book. The plot, with it's many twists, was a little hard to foresee, but I kept in mind that it was "non-fiction." There is no doubt we are clueless as to what really goes on behind the scenes in Washington, and this does offer a new idea, or at least to. I did enjoy the story line. Insofar as the characters go, the thought of Fiske was conceivable, as was Margaret, Sandra, etc... even Logan. My biggest problem was in regards to Eve. The more I read the more I began to doubt her character. She became irritating and unbelievable. For such a strong and educated person, her judgements and reasonings were pathetic and weak. If Ms Johansen issues a sequel. I will not read it nor recommend it. However after reading the other comments, I will purchase another Johansen novel and see......
