Rating: Summary: Where is the Romance in this Romantic suspense? Review: Not as good as her others. With each book she seems to focus more on her plots. I kept wondering when Ms. Johansen was going to get the romance going & suddenly it was the end of the book.
Rating: Summary: good plot, but irritating! Review: Nice plot twists. But the pacing was soooo sloooow! If she cut 10 percent from the book it would have flowed much better. I was ready to throw the book away because it was so slow with repetitive descriptions of "hurry it up lady" and thoroughly unlikeable characters. If there's no one to root for, what's the point?
Rating: Summary: Far-fetched Review: I was so disappointed in this book. Johansen is a favorite author, but she went off the deep end with this one. The characters were not likeable, the plot was far-fetched, the pacing was slow and overdramatic. In short, a big "thumbs down" on this one. She needs to go back to her roots to discover her writing again. Please, do not make this one into a sequel!!
Rating: Summary: DISAPPOINTING!!! Review: I have been a IJ fan for years and her books have always been keepers. UGLY DUCKLING was good... but since then it has been downhill. I was so angry by the time I finished THE FACE OF DECEPTION! IJ has forgotten the fans who have made her famous. The characters just made me mad-where was the romance? You have to care about what happens to Eve, Logan and Joe and I didn't.
Rating: Summary: A "Wall thumper" Review: I became so irritated, this paperback became a "wall-thumper" as it hit the living room wall. I love some of her books (earlier ones usually) but her more recent suspense books are extremely hit or miss. And this one missed. Not suspenseful. Eve is annoying. Logan is annoying. Joe is annoying. Plot was ridiculous. Almost embarasssed that I actually skimmed through to the unsatisfying ending. Iris--you can do better!
Rating: Summary: Entertaining with many bends Review: Became an Iris Johansen fan first with "And Then You Die", followed up with "Ugly Duckling" and found myself hooked. I agree some of the book left me hanging (why did Joe marry Diane?), but I read for entertainment. Catch my attention? she certainly does and as the plots could seem far-fetched if you really think about them and todays world they really could happen. Hope she will continue this genre of writing for many books to come.
Rating: Summary: Very disappointing Review: I have been a big fan of Iris Johansen's romantic suspense novels ever since I read 'And Then You Die'. I anxiously awaited the release of her newest story and found that I couldn't even finish it. The character Eve was annoying and rude and I found the other characters poorly developed. I recommend to any new readers to her work unhappy with this novel and want more romance and suspense, try some of her earlier novels such as Long After Midnight.
Rating: Summary: WOW!!! Review: This was my first book by Iris Johansen and boy was I impressed. She is and excellent author and really knows how to put things. I finished this book in one night because I couldn't put it down! I'm looking forward to the sequel.
Rating: Summary: Annoying Review: The character of Eve was just annoying, because it was always the same, no developement at all. The story was interesting but the flow of the story was unbelievable.
Rating: Summary: Not a romance or a mystery/thriller Review: Most of the fiction I read is either romance or mystery, but this book was neither. Iris Johannsen is usually known for her romance, or romantic suspense. This certainly didn't qualify. I liked the idea behind the story very much, but never really got involved in the story. I didn't even have a visual in my brain of what the characters looked like. I bought it on my way to the beach for a week, so I was hoping for a bit of romance between Eve and either John Logan or her detective friend whose name escapes me at the moment. You got neither. At the end of the book, she suddenly ends up living on a tropical island with Logan, and you are left going hunh? How did that happen? John Logan's character is poorly written and defined, he gets what he wants with money, period. No mystery or charm to him. The real person I wanted to know and see more of was Joe, Eve's rock. I hope they get together in the next book, due out shortly. I will read the next one, but won't buy it in hardback. This book definitely wasn't a romance, and it wasn't much of a mystery either. You knew the plot and the perpetrators about midway through the book. No suspense there. Basically, with the exception of maybe of Joe, all the characters are blandly written. Eve has a lot of potential, but her crack addicted turned reformed mom turned court reporter seemed contrived. If Eve was the smart one, and was the parent to her mom as a teenager, how come she ended up with a kid at age 16? That angle hopefully will be explored a little bit. Eve seemed so sterile that I didn't see how she could have had a romance at all.
