Rating: Summary: Hillarious, witty and insightful Review: I LOVED this book as I do all Nick Hornby's books. The man knows how to paint a picture with his words...not only do you see inside the tainted heart of the main character but you also get to see why and how he became the man he is in the book. You begin to feel for the character and with every turn of the page get more involved in his thoughts, feelings and actions (or lack of). Nick Hornby writes as if you have known the character for years and are just starting to read his thoughts and feelings. A must read for anyone who considers themselves a music/movie "snob"..the movie was great but the book by far outdoes itself!
Rating: Summary: one of my new favorites Review: i saw the movie of this last year and liked it a lot. so a couple of weeks ago I thought I'd read the book. so I did and I was not disappointed. It had more than the movie did maybe it didnt have as much more as I thought it did because I haven't seen the movie in a long time. my only complaint reaaly is in the book Dick's girlfriend is just some girl he met who doesn't know much about music and in the movie. they meet in the store discussing the clash's influence on green day. but I still loved this book. Nick Hornby is a great author.
Rating: Summary: Review - High Fidelity Review: The novel High Fidelity by NIck Hornby is about the protagonist Rob Fleming, a strange man, who tries to figure out why he was left by all of his girlfriends and why esspecially Laura, his last girlfriend, dumped him. Rob also tries to come together with Laura again. One gets an insight into his everyday life for example about his record - shop or very often also about his weird thoughts. Rob Fleming has a really strange character: He is immature although he is already 35 years old and through the whole book one cannot see any maturation. That is why he still behaves like a child. He is not able to understand his girlfriends at all and one could say that he is a macho. But I think he fits into the content of the novel, because all the characters in this book are somehow strange and have their special problems. All in all I have to say that I do not really like the novel High Fidelity, because I just cannot figure out the main plot. There are a lot of weird thoughts described which Rob has and some passages are funny, but there is not any action at all. The book is just boring. I do not want to say that everybody has to find it boring, but people who like to read books with a lot of content and action will probably not like High Fidelity.
Rating: Summary: High Fidelity Review: "High Fidelity"is a novel written by Nick Hornby. The protagonist is Rob Fleming, he is left by his girlfriend Laura and because of that he thinks about his other relationships that ended, too. He starts to meet his ex-girlfriends only to understand why they have left him. The novel has got a first person narrator to show the reader Rob's feelings, his behaviour and his way of life. In my opinion "High Fidelity" is an interesting novel. It's written in a colloquial way and the stereotypes of men are shown and confirmed.
Rating: Summary: best book i ever read at school... Review: When i started reading the novel "high fidelity" by Nick Hornby, i was immediately caught by the style it is written in.For me as a german student in the upper grade, it was a bit difficult, to understand the whole content of the book, because almost the whole book is written in colloquial englisch.I couldn't understand every ironically written sentence, but when i watched the film in english, it was easier to understand.I was hardly impressed by the main character, Rob, who behaved like an idiot and didn't really care about other peoples' feelings. He is such an egocentric man and when i read the book, i often wondered why he did things the way he did.I wasn't angry about his behaviour(i often have problems, when the main character doesn't act the way i want him to act...)when the women disappeared, because these experiences were necessary for him to change. All in all i liked the book, but i'm sure that not every kind of person is able to understand it.
Rating: Summary: It is so boring... Review: The novel "High Fidelity" written by Nick Hronby is about a man called Rob Fleming, woh wants to meet all his ex-girlfriends and wants to ask them, why they left him. All this he does because Laura, his last girlfriend left him because of an other man. Now he asks himself, what he did wrong in all his relationships. I think the novel is not really good, because the story is not very realistic. The protagonist Rob Fleming is a childish and inmature man, who's only interest is how good his sex-life is. I think the story is not realistic. And all that makes the book unreal and stupid.
Rating: Summary: it's worth reading it. Review: High Fidelity is a book about a record-shop owner called Rob Fleming who describes his relationships and split-ups with girls. Because he is such a music freak, he lists things like "most memorable split-ups" in a top5 or top10 order. He has two friends, Dick and Barry, who are working in his shop and are also his best friends. It's really interesting how Rob tells the reader about his relationships to girls. I think, also it was a little bit hard to understand the book in English (I'm from Germany), that it was a funny book and that it's worth reading it. The only bad thing with this book is, that there are some really boring scenes in which there is not really action.
Rating: Summary: What a boring book!! Review: High Fidelity by Nick Hornby is a boring book and not very interesting because it doesn't have much suspense and there are long passages in his shop or long descriptions which are very unintersting. The main plot is that Rob Fleming was dumped by all his girlfriends and wants to see them again. Rob is a "macho" because he is egocentric and doesn't think about the emotions and feelings of other people. Laura, his last split-up, dumped him because he didn't develop and she wants to think about her life and what she wants. Rob still loves her and tries to get her back, even if she has a new boyfriend. The language is very colloquial because Rob speaks and behaves like a teenager. This language is typical of him and shows his emotions, because he is impolite and insolent. Rob doesn't speak respectfully nor in a mature way, he still has a young-boy-image. All in all, I think that this book has quite a boring plot with a few funny passages in it. It's intersting for readers who like stories about relationships and don't need much action.
Rating: Summary: Review of High Fidelity Review: This book was enjoyable from start to finish. The main character Rob, a record store owner and a music freak tells about his relationships to girls and why everyone of them left him. He has a tendency to rate everything in top-five lists. Rob also lists the top-five of most dramatic relationships in his life in the introduction of the book, and then briefly tells about them. He compares his top-five list of girls with his last girlfriend Laura, while he tries to work out his future, and by doing so he shows the reality of growing up, finally, in his thirties. Rob reveals a universal personality allowing everyone to read and to enjoy the book and to be able to compare his own life with Rob's complicated lifestyle.
Rating: Summary: High Fidelity Review: On the one hand I didn't like the book but on the other hand it was okay. Nick Hornby is a good author, I think, and he is very creative. His speech is funny and varied. He has chosen many different and also extreme characters. "High Fidelity" isn't a book like others. I think it is both, a diary and a novel because you find out a lot about Rob's thoughts and feelings. But what I didn't like was Rob's character. He often is selfish and egocentric. He can be a real macho and isn't interested in someone else than himself. But after a while ha changes. It seems as if he has matured. He develops from a boy to a man. All in all the book isn't the worst I have ever read. It has a few boring passages bur if you don't take Rob seriously the book is funny, too.
