Rating: Summary: Best I've read since DeMille's Charm School Review: Couldn't put it down. The only books that I can recall topping this is Charm School and perhaps a couple of Dean Koontz's early works such as Watchers and Strangers. Terrific-can't wait for his next.
Rating: Summary: Excellent insight into Washington politics, the CIA, FBI. Review: An in-the-mind look at a SEAL operators endeavors to uphold the constitution. A thrilling premise - term limits on congressman; one way or another. You'll enjoy this book to the end and think about what if.
Rating: Summary: Nonstop Reading! Review: Excellent political thriller. Stayed up into the early morning hours as I could not put it down. Very Clancy-like although has his own style. Can't wait to read the next one from Vince!
Rating: Summary: Great Tom Clancy-like action book Review: I had not read something this good since the early Tom Clancy days
Rating: Summary: Fast paced! Explosive! Review: I haven't finished yet, but haven't been able to put it down either. Flynn definately provides an insiders view of Washington Politics with an interesting "what if.." scenario. Flynn keeps the action going while painting a detailed picture of what goes on the the back offices of the White House. A very satisfying read...
Rating: Summary: Excellent Book, Dealing with Honor in a nation with none. Review: In a nation that was created by men with honor and valor we now find ourselves without much of either. Mr. Vince Flynn writes a story that any true American Patriot will enjoy. Reading about an honorable man in a job of public service actually serving his nation with care and honor. Michael O'Rourke is an man of true Honor and Valor and has served his Country in Battle. Little did he know that the real battle was yet to come. American's who love their country will enjoy this book as the outcome has twists and turns but in a world where the bad guys win, it is refreshing to see Good Triumph over Evil. Righteousness succeed over self interests. I would rate this book 5 out of 5 stars. Recommended reading for anyone with any Patriotic or Political interests what-so-ever. Wonderful Book. Way to go Mr. Vince Flynn for your masterpiece.
Rating: Summary: Excellent Political Thriller Review: I couldn't put this book down. I also loved the plot of corrupt politicians paying for being so self-serving, i.e. The "Honorable" Edward Kennedy. I also liked O'Rourke's typical never-give-up Irish attitude.
Rating: Summary: Strictly Limited Review: Mr Flynn manages to put together a thriller which doesn't quite cure insomnia, but neither is it something worth staying up late for "just one more chapter." There was a fair amount of good action -- and the action was pretty well portrayed. If I was rating it on that element alone, it'd be worth 4 or 5 stars. Generally, though, I like more in a novel: things like characters with depth... images that spring to life in my imagination... a chance to cheer for the hero and boo-hiss the bad guy.Mr. Flynn writes like he wants to be the next Clancy. If you like Clancy, read Clancy -- don't read Flynn. Richard Marcinko apparently offered some technical expertise. If you like Marcinko, read Marcinko (or his ghosts). If you like Flynn, well, good for you and better for him -- that way, someone will pay non-used prices for his novels. Do me a favor, though: sell your books to a used bookstore, because that's the only place I'll buy the sequel.
Rating: Summary: Good fast read, but too much like television ... Review: I enjoyed this fast reading novel, but found the repetitive character descriptions a bit underwhelming. Plot development was so-so -- did the author forget the President declared martial law? Did Congressman O'Roarke's security detail forget to show up for work? Shouldn't the FBI know the old hair on the suitcase trick? I won't bother with his next novel, probably catch-up on Clancy instead.
Rating: Summary: Have to accept a rather far-fetched assumption Review: to enjoy this book. And I'm getting tired of special ops guys being portrayed as socio-paths. After twenty years in army special operations, I have nothing but the utmost respect for those in my service and the others-- even muscle-bound navy SEALS-- to easily read fiction like this. You want good stuff, read Bob Mayer's Special Forces books.
