Summary: Reprehensible
Review: I kept waiting for a character (JUST 1) to have moral qualms about four politicians being murdered (even though we're told over and over that they were "corrupt"). It never happened. Apparently the murder of four politicians, an ex-cia operative, two seemingly innocent security guards, and a National Security Advisor (who I guess we were supposed to hate but his morals were no different than any of the "good guys") is OK. Not one character had a problem with it. When a character is confronted with this reality, they quickly justify that these murders were somehow for the best, that they were somehow patriotic and justified.

BUT, these same characters are outraged that two "good" (or so we're told) politicians are murdered, along with some innocent secret service men.

WHAT'S THE DIFFERENCE?

Murder is murder.

I trodded through the last 300 pages of this book with growing unease and a growing disdain for every single character. Not one character had a moral compass. At the end, I could not identify with any of them. Every character sold their soul.

I finished this book not caring what happened. I could care less whether or not the congressman was saved. In fact, the book would have gotten another star if he wasn't.

Summary: Close but no cigar.
Review: At times the story takes predictable turns and the detail of the scenes lacks what would be needed for the story line to make sense.

Summary: Term Limits
Review: This is a very interesting but highly implausible scenario. The mystery is well written, but the thrust of the plot could not go unpunished, as in the book. The bad guys black hats were too black and the good guys hats for the most part too black. It was really hard to distinguish one group of bad guys from the other group of bad guys. Thank goodness for a Boy Scout Congressman with a luscious girlfrend.

Summary: Will have politicians looking over their shoulders nervously
Review: This novel has all the ingredients of an engaging thriller: a larger than life ex-marine hero who anyone in trouble would want on their side, impassioned and embittered ex-commandos who have moved from protecting the country from its enemies to protecting it from its leaders, a cast of vile, arrogant politicians collectively cast as the antagonist, and a complex (though pretty improbable), makes-you-think plot.

Though the novel isn't perfect--as I said, the plot is pretty improbable and some of the characters are little more than straw figures--it's very fast-paced and pulls you so totally into the inner world of DC's power corridors that you won't notice the book's relatively minor flaws until after you've finished it and had a chance to think it over.

Some of the criticisms of Term Limits seem to be written by people who read the book way too literally. Term Limits in no way celebrates commandos that kill off crooked politicians, nor does the book's hero, Michael O'Rourke, think they've done a particularly noble thing. To suggest that it does colors a good book that's just meant to be entertaining with a mean-spiritedness and cynicism that simply isn't there.

Summary: Boring and unrealistic
Review: I was given this book by a very conservative man I know with a taste for military books and deep a love for almost anything anti-government. Having read "Term Limits" by Vince Flynn I can now see why he loved it and I hated it.

"Term Limits" would be the kind of book Timothy McVeigh would become inspired by; an exercise in anti-goverment hatred that somehow manages to include an elected Congressman as one of those baring their teeth the most.

The book is slow and plodding, both in plot and writing. Most of Flynn's dialogue sounds as if it was being said by someone coming out of a coma with still limited verbal capacities. The idea that the so-called hero of the book supports the vicious terrorist murders (going so far as to protect someone he believes may be responsible) of three members of Congress is absurd.

Ignoring the plot for a moment, the filler is rediculous boring, simply there to take up space. As a journalist, I was insulted by the idea that O'Rourke's reporter girlfriend could be so easily made to ignore the idea of militant and governmental murder. The very idea is preposterous.

Also preposterous is the idea that every member of the military hates the government. They are fighting and dying to protect just such as government and yet we're supposed to believe virtually every soldier in uniform has a hatred so strong, so burned into their soul that even those in government would suspect soldiers were behind the murders. That is an insult to anyone who has put on an armed forces uniform.

"Term Limits" is only for those who enjoy being mad or offended by what they read. That and people who are already members of militia groups or are thinking about it.

Summary: Best book from this genre I have ever read.
Review: I read this book 2 years ago, and am now looking to see if Vince has any new books out. I could not put this book down. Not to eat, sleep, watch The Simpsons, nothing! I have read some Tom Clancy, and found this much more enjoyable. There is less of the boring, non-stop detailed technical blabber, but more than enough to keep you totally enthralled. This is a real thriller, guaranteed to keep you on the edge of your seat, bed, sofa, etc. A must read for action junkies!

Summary: An outstanding read!!!
Review: I have been hearing about Vince's writing for quite some time. I had started this book, got one chapter in, and while doing a major renovation on my house misplaced the book. I found it again and re-read the first chapter and didn't put it down until I finished. A very compelling story. The details regrading various military actions that take place throughout the story are extremely accurate. I imagine I'll be reading this book again!

Summary: Great plotting and wow what an ending!
Review: If You plan to start this book don't start it over the weekend. I could not put it Down!!

Summary: Intriguing but contrived
Review: The clerk at my dry cleaners highly recommended this book to me. I love personal recommendations for two reasons: sometimes they uncover great literary finds and second they reveal something about the person recommending. This was definitley the second. Term Limits is poorly written; although the surprises which keep popping up every other chapter are what keeps one turning the page. Everything that happens is impausible and contrived. The reader has to totally suspend all his or her beliefs in government, the eletoral process and the intrigrity of every one who holds natioanl office, appointed positions and serves in the military. The book is overrun with grammar errors and inconsistent plotting. Don't waste your time with this book. There are much better writers of this genre out there. I only finished it because my dry cleaning lady wanted to know what I thought. I'm now taking my dry cleaning elsewhere.

Summary: A good book for a long trip
Review: A homerun his first time at bat. Although I think the story itself maybe somewhat dangerous the authors keeps people on their toes and jumping. An easy read without being too simplistic will keep people wanting to read more.
