Rating: Summary: Fast paced Review: This was a heck of a book. Fast action, well written, with a believable plot for the first 3/4 of the book. The last was a little weak in plot but the first 75% was so good it still gets a five star from me.
Rating: Summary: Entertaining with some improbabilities Review: I thoroughly enjoyed Term Limits as I am a great fan of Vince Flynn, having also read Transfer of Power. Term Limits is a real page turner with a fascinating plot involving the killing off of prominent members of Congress to force the changing of government. The main character is a congressman who gets involved in the investigation as well as some killing himself. Here is where the improbabilities come in. It is somewhat improbable that a congressman would get involved in such activities, but this doesn't detract from the story. Flynn is a masterful storyteller with obvious knowledge of the inner workings of the White House, Congress, the CIA and Navy Seals. You won't put this one down.
Rating: Summary: GOOD STORY Review: I just finished listening to this story and I have to say that I liked it. I am reading Transfer of Power also by V. Flynn but have that book at work so I decided to catch up with Flynn by listening to Term Limits on audio at home and I enjoyed it. I normally dont like a condensed version of a book but I have so many books that I want to read that I thought that I could save some time by doing it this way. It was pretty cool to be able to pop the tape in to my car cassette player and listen to the story as I ran around doing errands and then at home just put on some headphones and listen to it as I kicked back. I even had my wife listening to this story with great interest. While I did like the story I have to say that in all honesty that I am really enjoying Tranfer of Power more. Vince Flynn is a good writer and I recommend either of these two books to anyone who might be looking for a good political thriller!
Rating: Summary: Clancy Fans will love this book Review: I read "Transfer of Power" last week and decided to try "Term Limits" despite some of the poor reviews. Bottom Line...this book will grip you if you like suspense. Character development through the book was excellent. Flynn takes you inside the head of several of the lead characters allowing you to see what they see and think what they're thinking through subtle observation of human behavior. Admittedly at first the twists in the plot bothered me, however Flynn sews them together masterfully and keeps the reader on edge to the end. Must buy for the politically astute.
Rating: Summary: One MOA out of the box..... Review: Whether a fan of conspiracy theories or just plain fed up with the way things have recently gone, this book cannot be set down once you've started. Say what they may, reviewers of this book who would push it down because of the "conspiracy theory" feel to it have lost the direction the book is taking.Merely reading the book for what it is can and should make someone worry about the "State of the Union". Aside from one the politicians in this book are no more and no less corrupt than the politicians we deal with every day. They make promises they never intend to keep, just to keep getting elected. Those who do intend to keep their promises soon fall subject to the influence of special interest groups and lose sight of the promises they made to their constituents. Being a nine year veteran myself and a member of special operations teams I have shared the disdain for politicians who have sent us out to do jobs they would not do themselves. Sitting comfortably in their leather chairs and heated/cooled offices while our sons and daughters are sent to the ends of the earth in the hottest and coldest of climates in order to NOT finish a job. Read this book for what it is. Not for what someone else tells you it is. Those who don't like this book, like the way things are, and enjoy being able to avoid taking responsibility for anything. I am not encouraging taking any actions based on this book, but as many of the characters in the book stated "I'm not going to shed many tears for it".
Rating: Summary: A dangerous book Review: The fact that the hero of Term Limits, a young Minnesota politician, condones and abets the assassination of "corrupt" politicians is symptomatic of a sick society that spawns violence from Waco to Columbine. Mr Flynn seems to have learned little at his Catholic Liberal Arts College. Instead he preaches a dangerous philosophy that rank him right up there with rap singers calling for the murder of policemen. There are no consequences for the assassins in this book and that, too, should be condemned. I give this book a well-deserved thumbs down.
Rating: Summary: Fairly Good Political Thriller Review: Mr. Flynn comes out of the gate swinging with this novel. He does not waste the readers time with endless motivations by the characters in the book. While the characters do seem a bit one-dimensional, they are easy to keep track of. While several stereotypes are played out here, they all have a ring of truth to them. Yes, there are people in the world who see everything in black and white, and there are certainly politicians that strive to make political gains out of any situation. The picture painted of "senior White House Officials" basically rearranging the deck chairs on a sinking Titanic rings true. There is very little doubt as to who is doing what to whom. Mr. Flynn does not try to make this a mystery novel, rather a procedural on assination and it's aftermath. We are introduced to some characters who have deep motivations for what they do, and we can sympathize with them. Mr. Flynn does not resort to "deus ex machina" by having magical weapons or characters appear when the situation becomes dire. What transpires in the novel appears to have a genuine flow to it. As a first novel, I reccommend it with few reservations. As I have started his second novel, I now look forward to finishing "Transfer of Power" and going on to the third novel. I will note that while some characters do make appearances in both of the novels, each book is certainly a stand alone read. Mr. Flynn looks to be quite the writer and if he keeps this up, I will definately keep buying his books.
Rating: Summary: Action Packed. Review: Vince Flynn manages to keep the action moving at break-neck speed for over 600 pages. There are practically no slow spots. The premise is fairly preposterous, and the climax totally unbelievable, but who cares? This is fiction, and an exciting and enjoyable read. There are more plot twists than a Clinton Presidency and more shoot-'em-ups than a Clint Eastwood movie. Vince doesn't even slow down long enough for any kissy-face. The comparison to Tom Clancy is inescapable, so here goes. While the writing quality in Term Limits is professional, I have the sense after reading numerous Clancy novels that his language skills are bit more high brow. There is a higher level of sophistication in Clancy books. And while Flynn obviously did a lot of research, Clancy does more. But for that reason, many readers will prefer Flynn's books. Clancy tends to focus more on technology; Flynn goes right for the gut. Action, action, action. This is a must-read for political thriller lovers, and a good choice for all other suspense fiction readers. --Christopher Bonn Jonnes, author of Wake Up Dead.
Rating: Summary: Righteous Congressman Condones Political Assasination Review: Righteous Minnesota representative angry at the government knows who killed four sleazy Members of Congress but only tells his girlfriend and his killer grandfather. What a sleazeball. Simplistic yarn.
Rating: Summary: Can't put down! Review: Full of actions, thrills and lots of page turners... I finally finished it and I'm looking forward to read Mr. Flynn's next novel.
