Rating: Summary: THIS IS THE ONE!!!!! Review: ....Omar Tyree has written a wonderful story that just about everyone can relate to. You don't have to be involved in the music industry to benefit from the overall message. Many different people let several different things go to thier head and forsake all that is valuable, sacred and rational.I'm not going to tell what the book is about. If you consider yourself to be a true reader, I will say this, go out and get the book and read it "TODAY". Never take someone else's word for law. Always, always, always, form your own opinion. Regardless to what you are dealing with. Remember, "One man's poison, is another man's meal". Having said that, Omar, I would like to take this opportunity to tell you (hopefully you read these reviews), that aside from "Flyy Girl", this is my favorite book written by you. Keep up the good work, and I look forward to reading you next novel. Oh! One more thing, while reading fiction, try to remember one thing............it's just that "Fiction".... Much love to everyone and god bless MOMMIE 24/7
Rating: Summary: Just Say No to Buying this Book... Review: Again, I can't believe that people over the age of ten years old actually read Omar Tyree books. The book Just Say No, and the accompanying CD which features Tyree "singing" are just plain embarassing. I agree with the other reviewer that said the characters were predictable, including John "Loverboy" Williams. It's like Tyree has a formula that he must use for all of his books. I don't recommend this book, and I sometimes wonder if the positive reviews for his books are written by Tyree under different names, or by blind people without access to Braille. Pick up a serious piece of African American fiction instead of this tripe. Oh, and if you don't believe me, read this sentence. It begins the book and almost made me stop reading right there. Notice the abundance of prepositions. "I stopped daydreaming about the past and looked out of my cab window at a mental hospital of red brick and gray cement that was out in the middle of nowhere within the state of Maryland."
Rating: Summary: Brothers enjoyed it Review: I am fortunate to work in an environment with other professional black men. Sometimes we have the usual picnics, birthday gatherings, etc. This time we decided to find a book with African American male characters that we could relate to. Well Omar Tyree's "Just Say No" was our decision. Of course we had some guys who didn't want to read fiction. However, this was something that we were going to try. Within the first few day's this book about two very good friends started becoming the focus point of our conversations during lunch or just in passing. Our group of seven gave this book 4 stars out of five but my personal vote is 5 stars. John "Loverboy" Williams and his best friend could only make us think about our friends growing up and the friendships that we have developed at work. I know this isn't a typical review but I consider this to be one of the best books that I have ever read. This is the first book written by Omar Tyree that I have read. Because of this I decided that it's okay for my daughter (12yrs) to read Flyy Girl and I picked up one of his books for my wife (No, Not Single Mom:) but Sweet St.Louis. They're both enjoying the books and we all agree that we like his writing style and the messages that he hides in the books. Well I guess that means that now I am an Omar Tyree fan. I will call his work faction.
Rating: Summary: Enough all ready! Review: I couldn't get through the first couple of pages. Wait for the paperback, better yet don't waste your time at all.
Rating: Summary: same old thing Review: The story is slick. You know what the characters will do before you turn the next page. Tyree never delves too deeply into why Loverboy Williams does the things that he does. The friendship between the two men is nicely done. For Tyree fans only.
Rating: Summary: Highly Entertaining and heartfelt Review: This book gets into the music business with exciting experiences of John Loverboy. With the constant media that celebrities obtain this book is true to life. Behind the scene drama with a strong message. The famous saying all that glitters ain't gold comes to mind when I was reading Just Say No. I have to respect Tyree for showing love of his craft by bringing something new to us reader every year. Be ready to see this novel climb the charts.
Rating: Summary: For The Love Of Music!! Review: " Just Say No" by Omar Tyree What can I say Omar Tyree "Just Say No" was a yes in my book! We start off meeting to childhood friends John Williams and Darin Harmon, which is was the only friend that John had. John was a music lover. I would not call him a nerd but he was one of the guys that just couldn't get the girls to look his way. As for Darin he was he was a football star and as we all know all the girls LOVE a man that is an athlete, so of course he got all the girls. Out of no where John decides to enter a talent show that the college is holding and from there on we all know what happened... "Just Say No" takes us for a ride with John and his singing career with his boy right by his side. We all know how it is in the music industry today once you get caught in a web you are tangled until you have the strength to pull your self out. Is that what happened to John, well you will just have to go out and get this book. Darin tried to get his football career started but do to and injury he was there by John's side through thick and thin I think everyone that's in the music industry and they start out young should have a friend like Darin BKA D.Harmon. Omar Tyree has finally written something that had me feeling these characters; it was a well-written story. That kept me turning pages until I was done. I'm still left wondering if this story was about a current singer that we all listen to today... Blessings goes out to Omar Tyree I loved " Just Say No"
Rating: Summary: This book is "Just ALL GOOD" Review: Thanks again Omar. "Just Say No" was worth the wait. John "Loverboy" Williams and Darin Harmon reminds me of my friends. You know, those who knew you before you knew yourself. The characters really make you think about some of the decisions that we make in our daily lives and who is really in your corner. I thought the book was funny, while also dealing with serious subjects such as drugs, sex, loyalty, and the music industry that creates our idols. I would love to see this on the BIG SCREEN. The CD was off the HOOK!!!.
Rating: Summary: Entertainment at its Best!! Review: Have you ever thought of how some people are always at the right place at the right time? Well this is kind of what happens in "Just Say No". John Williams was the high school nerd, who always stayed to himself, played in the band, had only one friend, D. Harmon, had an overprotective mother, and you know the rest. John was like many teenagers, who also wondered about his missing father. Then he surprises everyone at school and enters the college talent show. The rest, shall we say is history. "Just Say No" vividly describes what happens to John as he embarks on a singing career. Tyree candidly describes in great detail, John's introduction to drugs, groupies, death and his own self destruction. The story is told by John's closest friend and manager, Darin Harmon. Darin, on the other hand, was very popular football star but after an injury he decides to help make sure his friend gets established in the music industry. Darin has a great business mind and realizes that he has given up his dream to help his friend. Tyree has written a very good story. It really puts that reader in the middle of everything as it happens. However, there were a few points when the story just seemed to drag or when I thought Tyree had given too much detail. Yet, once you got the end of the story, you were satisfied. I really enjoyed the way Omar kept the events of the story current with the music industry of today. (It really made me wonder whether this was based on someone that we currently know in the industry...Hmmmmm) Hats off to Omar... Great story! Peace and Blessings!!
Rating: Summary: WOW!! Review: This book was the BOMB!!! I am tempted to read it again. It shows the importance of a solid friendship, no mattter what. The book was funny, but real. John was an only child who was over protected by his very religious mother, then he met Darin, an average boy who wants to show him the ropes. Over the years they become best friends, eventually going off to college together. One day, John decides to sing in the Homecoming talent show, and after blowing the crowd on to their backs, especially the 'ladies', John jumps on the fast track to stardom. Darin being the good friend that he is, backs him 100%. Before you know it, you are being sucked into the fast and wild life of stardom, sex, drugs and money. Its amazing how someone so sweet and innocent and can be turned out so quickly and easily.
There is only one problem, the beats and lyrics are hard to follow.
