Rating: Summary: I Hate This Woman, And I Have a Point to Make Review: Ann Coulter is a horrible, horrible person. I know this because I have read in-depth her work, and her beliefs, which we expouses regularly on her website. Because of her pervasive intellectual laziness, she constantly resorts to invective (while accusing "evil" liberals of doing the same), uses gross generalizations and egregious leaps of logic, etc. Her unfounded (and by that I mean that it is at all backed up with any sort of genuine research) hatred of liberals and the Monolithic Conspiracy of the Left is completely irrational; her arguments generally read, and I say this without a moment of hesitation, like that of Mein Kampf, and she is no more credible than the author of *that* irrational screed. OK, here is my point, which may sound a little tame by comparison with the rest of the aforesaid comment:On the very front page of Slander, which pictures the devil incarnate herself reading a newspaper, no doubt published by the so-called "liberal media," that says in large print the word, Slander. OK: slander is a lie that is *spoken*, Ms. Coulter (and I say *Ms.* Coulter because I don't think that any sane man would marry this b*tch -- sorry about the censorship there but I want Amazon to post this). *Libel* is printed. So, the reader can see right away that this woman has no idea what the hell she is talking about. And plus, the book itself is filled with so many lies that the title almost describes itself ... twice, because 1) it ought to be the word 'Libel,' and 2) it accurately describes the entire content of the book. Maybe she purposely steered away from "libel" because it sounded too much like "liberal," and she would never allow that; she wouldn't want her screed to be titled Liberal, would she.
Rating: Summary: Slander: an appropriate title Review: I could not stand to finish this book. I found this book to be largely consistent of Ms. Coulter's whining, griping opinions that are based on poorly researched, often confused, and nearly always twisted, "facts"; and the introduction made me physically sick. I am glad that I did not purchase this book, and would suggest to anyone who is interested, to borrow it from the library, and then do your own research. I am sorry I wasted the time reading, except to gain further knowledge of how the "conservative right" (in her own words) is working to keep their interests above the American people's, by bombarding them with untrue, stereotypical, and discriminatory views of anyone who leans a little to the left of Jerry Falwell. It is preposterous the way she ridicules racism (she pretends that it no longer exists), environmentalism, and feminism. But then again, what would a white woman, who surrounds herself with rich, white, conservative men know about any of this (or any other subject concerning mainstream America)? I'm happy for her that she has never encountered any type of discrimination. Perhaps she should step out of her bubble. This book is a terrible, awful, ridiculous, waste of time.
Rating: Summary: How Dare She??? Review: As someone who lost a beloved spouse on September 11th, the question I have is how anyone who considers themself a patriot could wish planes to crash into more New York City buildings, i.e. the New York Times building? That comment took my breath away. More suffering and loss, simply because this so-called author feels that the Times is too liberal and that somehow threatens her? This is simply grotesque and she should be ashamed of herself! I had considered myself a conservative, and even voted for George Bush (sorry!!!) but after reading this piece of DRECK, I will never vote for another conservative ever again. I am still shocked and stunned by her total lack of compassion. Even if it is said satirically, or in humor, it is unnecessary and completely inappropriate. Shame on her! The thought of what she has written makes me physically ill.
Rating: Summary: American Right, stay away from me! Review: The libruls don't slander the American Right. It is not slander when a statement made is true. The American Right lacks veracity and therefore they deserve to be criticized. That is why libruls criticize the right. When the criticism is true, it is not slander. It is the truth. A good example is right here. Coulter's book has been shown to contain many false statements. Her footnotes have been shown to tell outright lies, or claim her enemies make statements they never made. To summarize: Coulter's posits do not hold up to scrutiny when you apply the scientific method. Remember: The American Right tells lies. The American Right wants to take away your freedom. Ignore them!
Rating: Summary: The media is right Review: Ann Coulter persuasively demonstrates that the mainstream media is well to the left of George W. Bush (Thank God), and that conservatives as a group have no sense of humour. Not news. The book is filled out with virulent rhetoric attacking anyone to the left of Genghis Khan. Nowhere does it attempt to defend Bush's indefensibly atrocious domestic and international policy that is making a laughingstock of the world's most powerful (and dangerous) country. A complete waste of time.
Rating: Summary: Coulter Writes What Conservatives Always Knew - The Truth Review: Conservative commentator Ann Coulter must surely be a puzzle to liberals. After decades of painting all conservatives as ugly, stupid, ill-educated, easily led fools - and perhaps even believing it's true - here comes Ann Coulter, blond, dishy, an attorney, educated, literate, articulate, highly intelligent, well-versed in the issues, fiercely opinionated....you know, the sort of woman who should be a liberal. Unfortunately for liberals, she loathes the very air they breath and can make good case for why. Slander is Coulter's second book, following up her best-selling High Crimes and Misdemeanors: The Case Against Bill Clinton. It addresses the long-standing liberal bias in American media, whether newspapers, magazines, book publishing or television. It's made up of nine chapters and a Conclusion. Here's one quote from each section: Chapter One, Liberals Unhinged: "Often short on details, the classic liberal response to a principled conservative argument is to accuse Republicans of planning a second Holocaust. No matter how inured to liberal hate speech, the regularity with which Republicans are compared to Nazis still astonishes. One would almost think fascist dictatorial regimes demanding governmental control of the major means of production were an immoderate extension of efforts to trim the income tax." Chapter Two, The Gucci Position on Domestic Policy: "There is no more pristine example of the left's 'in'-crowd snobbery than their treatment of conservative author and activist Phyllis Schlafly....Her very name prompts derisive hoots from Hollywood starlets who couldn't approach Schlafly's IQ if they were having brains instead of silicone injected." Chapter Three, How to Go From Being a "Jut-Jawed Maverick" to a "Clueless Neanderthal" in One Easy Step: "Politicians with something to hide - say, wild promiscuity, stupidity, Chappaquiddick, or a former membership in the Ku Klux Klan - had best be liberals. There may be other reasons to be a liberal - generalized hatred of America, for example - but one very good reason is that you need the media's protection." Chapter Four, Creating the Psychological Climate: "Claims of 'conservative bias' in the media are amusing oddities. But a claim that the New York Times has a conservative bias can be explained only by the joy liberals take in lying." Chapter Five, Advance As If Under Attack: Fox News and the Election: "'Fairness & Accuracy in Reporting' (FAIR), comically dedicated to exposing conservative media bias from its headquarters in the Manhattan heartland, has been especially rigorous in ferreting out Fox News's slant. In a shocking report released in July 2001, FAIR revealed that during the first few months of the George W. Bush administration - when the White House was Republican, the Senate was Republican, the House was Republican, and the new administration's appointees were all Republicans - Brit Humes's new report interviewed almost entirely...Republicans!" Chapter Six, Samizdat Media: "The monopoly media of television, newspapers, and magazines can inflict liberals on the public without paying a price. Noticeably, however, liberals fail in any media where there is competition. In the three media where success is determined on the free market - radio, books, and the Internet - conservatives rule." Chapter Seven, The Joy of Arguing With Liberals: You're Stupid!: "If liberals were prevented from ever again calling Republicans dumb, they would be robbed of half their arguments. To be sure, they would still have 'racist,' 'fascist,' 'homophobe,' 'ugly,' and a few other highly nuanced arguments....But the loss of 'dumb' would nearly cripple them." Chapter Eight, Clever Is As Clever Does: The Liberal Dilemma: "Gore is only the most recent Democratic mediocrity to dazzle media shills with his genius. Whenever the public fails to be similarly dazzled, the media leaps in to explain that the Democrat is 'too smart' to connect with ordinary voters." Chapter Nine, Shadowboxing the Apocryphal "Religious Right": "In 1994, the Reverend Jesse Jackson blamed the Christian Coalition for the Holocaust....While he was at it, he blamed the Christian Coalition, formed in 1989, for slavery, too." Conclusion: "Part of the reason liberals prefer invective to engagement is that - as Richard Nixon said of Albert Hiss - if Americans knew what they really believed, the public would boil them in oil....[They are] savagely cruel bigots who hate ordinary Americans and lie for sport."
Rating: Summary: EVERYONE SHOULD READ THIS BOOK Review: . . . and then go out and get Al Frankin's new book, because reading this first makes Al's even funnier. I shudder to think about what Kind of childhood trauma Coulter must have suffered that caused her to write and think this way but I hope the therapy doesn't help her for a little while yet--so that she can keep producing these steaming piles of conservative goodness. To the conservatives out there--you might want to get her some help soon because she's making you look like fools. Anyhow, if anybody is actually thinking of reading Slander (yes, I did read it, including the endnotes) I would wholeheartedly suggest it. Read Coulter first (yes it will probably repulse you), Frankin second for a good laugh, and then try some Chomsky if you are actually curious about how our media outlets work rather than just a partisan sheep.
Rating: Summary: A fun, pithy look at how liberals operate Review: Slander is a very fun book (assuming you are a conservative). Coulter's sardonic story of the left in America is well documented and irrefutable (she has already responded to the liberal attacks on her book and does admit a serious error: the NY Times did run a front page story about the death of Dale Earnhardt). Of course, now that Slander has been thoroughly repudiated by the left, there is really no point reviewing it. Actually, that is a good example of the basic premise of Slander, the liberals tendency to throw the baby out with the bath water. If you can disprove one paragraph on the last page of a book, then the other 204 pages with thousands of footnotes must also be false. Coulter brings this type of scenario up an excellent argument for the failure of the left to accomplish anything for the past 40 years (oh yea, what have they accomplished then?) The left repudiates an entire 205 page argument based on one paragraph and is given cover by the media. This has led to a kind of intellectual laziness on the part of the left. Since they are never forced to defend themselves for their bizarre beliefs, their beliefs tend to become even more bizarre and ordinary Americans reject them even more. The good news is the left has learned a darn thing and we can assume conservatism will continue to win for a long time to come.
Rating: Summary: Better than Treason Review: I liked Treason, but Slander is even ten times better! Slander may be one of the most important books on the market. Every student who is sick and tired of being spoon-fed the liberal spin should read this book. Ann provides undeniable proof of the leftsist slant in the media. If someone read this book and denies that newspapers, magazines, and television are mediums under the control of leftist extremists, they should list their nationality as PINK. You rock Ann Coulter!
Rating: Summary: Jerry Springer in a skirt. Review: Reading this book was a bit like watching the Jerry Springer show, no offense to Jerry Springer. Ann Coulter should hope for a musical based on her "life." As a conservative, I feel like a follower of Islam on September 11th. Can't relate to the hate or rage. She has issues, I think.
