Summary: A Real Cathartic Experience
Review: One always gets this vague sense of being manipulated by the media (CBS, NBC, ABC, and especailly the endless psychological gamesmanship of National Public Radio, which has barely a single gentile on its staff). How interesting and revelatory to read the facts: the media IS in fact manipulative. The facts are set forth in 'Slander' in an objective and empirical way. To resent their being truly stated, and to thereby criticize this book is to rail at the sky for being blue. The book is also very witty. Satirical, but also good old-fashioned earthy humor. I recommend it highly to all but the radical leftist extreme, who might lose their intellectually precarious raison d'etre for being so damned nasty all the time about conservatives.

Summary: I Can't Believe This Garbage
Review: I've read a lot of trash in my days but this book wins the "Plastic Dumpster Award." Ann Coulter comes across as an angry, malicious person who loathes anything Democrat or Liberal. Although she presents "facts" to support her claims of media bias, the thing to remember about "facts" is that they are always based upon data that is subject to interpretation. For example, we had "facts" that indicated the Iraquis had weapons of mass destruction and consequently, supported our invasion of Iraq. Those facts told us what the Iraquis had and where they were located (Remember Colin Powell's presentation to the United Nations). Those "facts" were based largely upon intellegence data amassed by various government agencies. Here we are 8 months into the invasion and, alas, no weapons. I do not say this to criticise the war effort but to explain that fact is not always factual. I am very much a Conservative but I'm not an ideological drone. One thing that many people fail to realize is that the media is neither Liberal (as Conservatives would have you believe) nor is it Conservative (as Liberals would have you believe); the media is opportunistic. Has everyone forgotten the incessant coverage of the Monica Lewinsky scandal, impeachment hearings, presidential court hearings, Whitewater, Kenneth Star, etc.? Ann Coulter has managed to capitalize on "your" collective ignorance. Remember, she gained notoriety for her very insulting book about the Clintons. Since that sold so well, the media was the logical next target of her venumous tirades. By the way, for all of you Rush Limbaugh listeners (as I am), what were Rush's 2 main targets of criticism in the 1990's? The Clintons and the media. So, Ann Coulter simply gave the public what they wanted to read. This book exhibits no journalistic mastery. It does not compel one to try to understand her thoughts (her writing comes across incoherent). It is simply the rant and ravings of a bitter and empty opportunist.

Summary: just what you would expect
Review: repetitive, accusatory, the same dogma we've heard again and again from this type of 'author'

Summary: I'm thinking of a five letter word that starts with a "B"
Review: Pure drivel! Where does she come up with this stuff. After reading this book, there is no doubt in my mind that she's crazy.

Summary: Valid arguments, but style grates
Review: Ann Coulter's case for media bias is well-founded, and she presents trustworthy data and analysis. The liberal bias in the media is well-known to many people, and the slim number of major right-wing media outlets (Fox, Washington Times) as compared to left-leaning outlets (all the others?) supports this.

However, I found her polemical style just too over the top - no wonder some of her critics here are incoherently foaming at the mouth. The book's purpose can only be to provide readers that are already on Coulter's side of the argument with ammunition - it will never serve to convince doubters. That said, maybe it is an effective way of presenting potentially boring reams of data?

(...)P>I think Coulter's style does disservice to good ideas and arguments, even though she is right on a lot of issues.

Summary: No Facts, plenty of inflammatory fluff
Review: Wow. I guess folks really like to read mish-mash novellas. The book is not factual. Period. The end-notes show a great disregard for reason. Yup if you type illogical searches into a search engine (LexisNexis) you can make a case that anything is underreported. Type a long enough search into Google and get no results. From this the author tries to draw false conclusions. I thought Americans had at least enough cynicism to doubt the silliness that this is. Minus the tone of the text it belongs under "comedy." Want some straight dope, try:

It's kind of ironic -- unintentionally so it seems -- that the book is titled Slander. It purports to expose slander, but rather is itself Slanderous.
What does this kind of disrespect of your own readers mean? Lack of self-respect? Lack of values.
Ego likes attention. She gets attention. If you have a big sense of humor the book might be funny/fun, otherwise it is sad that someone lies and then pretends to be doing something else.

Summary: A must read! Ann Coulter is the heart & soul mate of America
Review: A must read! Ann Coulter is the heart and soul mate of America!

However,
¡°Sister Souljah is the rap singer who expressed enthusiasm for the idea of blacks taking a week to ¡®kill white people.¡¯ p. 178

¡°¡¦She said it was ¡®wise¡¯ for blacks to kill whites whom ¡¦¡¯have a low-down dirty nature.¡¯¡±

¡°A presidential candidate stands on a podium recently occupied by the black equivalent of David Duke and timorously takes exception to the earlier speaker¡¯s enthusiasm for mob murder. An oblique statement of opposition to racial killings¡¦¡± p. 179

I would like to see the reference/s where former state representative and European preservationist, David Duke ever advocated any form of violence against anyone, much less for ¡®racial mob murder.¡¯

Has Ms. Soul Mate of America (sincerely,) cast the same type of aspersions on former state representative and European preservationist, David Duke that communists were casting on that great American, Senator Joseph R. McCarthy?

Summary: Slander, indeed!
Review: You'll never see Ann on Leno, Letterman, Kimmel or Conan. Why? Because she's a conservatve. Ann tells it like it is. Apparantly for liberals, if someone agrees with them, they're a genius. If someone disagrees, their facts are "wrong." She covers everything from 9/11 and the left's constant refusal on the war on terrorism, to the whole election "mess" caused by democrats. Just watch the media and see how much it doesn't like Bush (CBS, ABC and NBC) compared to FOX. FOX is more fair and balanced. Even as a Democrat I thought so. PBS is also more fair and balanced as well. I also noticed how many people repeatedly bashed Bush without any factual evidence. Just theories. My complaints about Clinton as a former democrat are fact-based. The only thing cranky can do is complain about how I read from people who's books are based on facts. Coulter gives an in-depth analysis about who REALLY controls our media. The only thing cranky can come up with is the Reagans. The main problem with that was the man is 92 and in critical condition for God's sake. It is disrespectful. Even if Clinton was 92 now in critical condition, I still wouldn't make a movie portrating him in a negative light. Give Ann Coulter a chance. Just because she disagrees with you, doesn't make her wrong, which is what a lot of liberals seem to think. Have they actually read this book?? (yes I read Moore's and Franken's)

Summary: Embarrassed Conservative
Review: This book was truly awful. As a conservative, it is embarrassing to read a poorly written book that essentially whines about how poorly conservatives are treated by liberals and the media. The book is short on facts and long on complaining and name calling.

If you are conservative and want to explore "liberal bias", read Bernarnd Goldberg's Bias.

Summary: Companion book to Al Franken's book
Review: Come on Amazon, you should offer a sale price on
"Slander: Liberal Lies About the American Right"
by Ann Coulter

with
"Lies and the Lying Liars Who Tell Them: A Fair and Balanced Look at the Right"
by Al Franken

They go perfectly together.
