Rating: Summary: Fantastic Review: This is one of his best. I couldn't put the book down and read the entire book in 1 day. The story was fast paced with interesting twists and turns. The ending leaves you waiting for the next book in the Alex Cross series. Already recommended this to everyone I know.
Rating: Summary: Roses are Wilted Review: I love mystery stories -- those by Ludlum, Marcia Mueller, Anne Perry, Michael Connelly, William Bernhardt, Bill Pronzini and Michael Palmer -- to name just a few off the top of my head. This was the first time I read James Patterson -- and UGH...It is so slipshod -- and the ending is just for shock value -- no preparation -- no follow through -- I felt as if I was being set up for the NEXT book....but you can be sure I will not read it. And the style -- there are 126 Chapters all about 2 pages long, large print, extensive margins -- and no content...And the characters leave a lot to be desired. PLEASE, PLEASE -- maybe someone else is ghost-writing Mr. Patterson's books... I have to say the plot was thrilling and interesting...but the execution (forgive the pun) was poor. PLEASE forwarn your readers....skip the roses...this time...no accolades, no flowers and no champagne on this one.
Rating: Summary: Dr Cross Rides Again! Review: The latest in the highly successful continuing Dr Alex Cross series, this book is a read-in-a-day novel for serial Cross fans. Following a series of hostile bank robberies that always end in murder, Cross and his partner John Sampson find themselves running ragged all over town chasing the shadowy killer "The Mastermind" and his crews of hired robber/killers. The FBI lead this investigation so more hands on deck - but how does the Mastermind always seem to be a step ahead?
Rating: Summary: Just another Alex Cross book Review: The book is a quick read, and that is the best I can say for it. As always, Patterson's plot is convoluted. Usually the twists and turns come together to make an interesting whole, but this book has major plot lines left hanging.
Rating: Summary: Patterson mails this one in Review: I've been a Patterson fan from Day one. I have read all of his work to date but "Roses are Red" is just a stinker. The story line has great possibilities but goes nowhere. There is absolutely no resolution in any of the twists and turns of the story. Though you eventually find out who the murderer is, he is still at large at books end. Patterson will have to pony up a better story next time or fans will be jumping ship bigtime.
Rating: Summary: Roses are Red Review: Not James Patterson's best. This book was a bit of a let down compared to his others. Poor start, had some holes, but picks up at the end. Some of the story just had no reason to be there. What was that? I finished it because I started it and wanted to know if ANTTHING would happen. Hope the next one is better than this one. Read if you have nothing else.
Rating: Summary: Call me crazy, but I loved this book Review: Three good books in a row for Patterson. This book is a bit different from his previous (Pop goes the weasel), in that it's less of a straightforward novel and more of a whodunit, but it still makes for a great, somewhat thoughtfull read. The final paragraph at the end knocked the heck out of me! Good job Patterson. Now bring back Geoffery Shafer in the next book!
Rating: Summary: Patterson and Cross usually deliver better than this. Review: I have been a big fan of Patterson for many years now. I like his short chapter style, his ability to keep the action going and keep you guessing. While this book delivers on all three of these, it is just not as strong as other Patterson titles. The twists and turns become almost predictable at times. I am a firm believer that John Grisham got to a point with some of his first few novels that I felt like I was reading the same novel, only with different characters. I don't think that Patterson has gone that far, but this one was much more predictable than his other Cross thrillers.
Rating: Summary: Not the best one written but pure Alex Cross Review: This book took me 5 hours to read. I could not put it down. Patterson really makes you sympathize with Alex Cross and his loss of Chrsitine. This is one of the few books that I had no idea who the killer is and keeps it open for a sequel (we can hope). I really enjoy Alex Cross and hopefully he'll find a woman one day that can stay with him. If Alex can't, maybe Sampson can!
Rating: Summary: Exciting Review: I'm pretty surprised at the all the differences in the reviews of this book. If you like Patterson at all, what's not to like here? The pacing is fast, I really enjoyed the back-and-forth between first and third person narratives (first person DOES take away much of the suspence, after all), I had no clue as to who-dun-it, and as for the ending that so many seem to be bothered by ... I was blown away. Normally I would find an ending such as this bothersome but not this time. Somehow I can't think of a more appropriate way to close this book. The villain in "Roses Are Red" is so completely evil as to be almost indestructable, and this is the sense I was left with.
