Rating: Summary: Room for more Review: I will have to say that this book was both riveting and dissappointing. The subplots didnt make much sense (Cross's daughter's illness) but I loved the surprise ending. What he lacked is linkage...there were alot of holes in how the robbers tied to the mastermind and how he had time to find them and when. That was my most dissappointing moment after the end...you realize that Patterson didnt use details as in previous books. BUT for the record...I really enjoyed this book because of the ending. It will make for an excellent sequal if it isnt rushed by Patterson or his publishing company.
Rating: Summary: Patterson is the only victim of the crime. Review: Patterson apparently has deterined that the pattern for success as a writer must be offset by the failures of his hero (Dr.Cross). Cross fails to capture the killer, fails to mend his romance with Christine and fails to develop his new love interest. "Roses" allows Patterson to continue with this theme in the sequel that will no doubt tie up all the loose ends. Unfortunately he will have considerably fewer readers if he doesn't maintain some continuity of effort.
Rating: Summary: Major Disappointment Review: This is the first book I've read by this popular author. And it will be the last. The plot was just interesting enough to keep me wondering how the book would end, but the writing style was way too simple-minded and predictable for my taste. I kept thinking "2nd-grade primer".Several years ago I saw a movie adapted from one of his books, and it was good. Perhaps his stories are better told on the screen.
Rating: Summary: Another page turner... if slightly unbelievable. Review: This is again, a very fast read, as most Patterson novels are. And, ok, I love the two and three page chapters. Part of the charm of this author, and this book, like his others, is you actually care about the characters. Nothing makes a book like a well developed character. This one has those. I don't care what anyone says, you won't figure out the villain and you will be surprised at the end. As another reviewed wrote, when I finished, I said WOW! I literally sat there for a few minutes with my mouth hanging open. And, then, I realized I didn't buy it. Even though the connections that hold this book together tend, at the end, to be tenuous at best, it doesn't stop this book from being a fun read. This is down and dirty and fast and furious. That's what makes all of Patterson's novels "fun". So what if you find you truly have to suspend your disbelief for a while?
Rating: Summary: Good to the last word Review: I could not believe the pace this one unfolded with. I was stunned at the end and am already waiting for the sequel...there has to be more! Alex is faced with so many conflicts and challenges at once. His whole world is constantly rocked, and rocked again. I loved it and didn't want it to end.
Rating: Summary: I'm a big Alex Cross fan, but... Review: I give the book a generous three-star rating because the writing, right up to the final chapter, is up to Patterson's usual high standard. However, the ending has an almost farcical, tacked-on-at-the- last-minute feel that was profoundly disappointing and unrealistic to me. Sorry, but this one just doesn't do it for me. Suspension of disbelief is totally lost in the last chapter. I hope Mr. Patterson gets back to his old standard in his next Alex Cross novel, because I've enjoyed them all up to now.
Rating: Summary: Wow Review: If you're a fan of the Alex Cross novels, the ending will blow you away. If you're not yet a fan, start at the beginning and read them all. Patterson is one of the best.
Rating: Summary: Is there an order form at the end of the book? Review: As an avid James Patterson fan, I was excited to get my hands on his latest! As I raced through the book in no time flat, exlaiming aloud on the final chapters - never have I been more frustrated! I'm all for surprise endings and being a bit misguided as to who the killer is - but puh-leeze! Surprised and angry are the only words I can drescribe for this ending! I feel like I was taken to the edge, only to be left unfulfilled! I'm assuming we're supposed to sign up right now to receive the sequel. I think Mr. Patterson was spending too much time in the heads of his misguided characters. That or his publishing deadline snuck up too quickly. Unfortunately I'm a sucker who will bite, and be back for the next one.
Rating: Summary: Interesting!! Review: I thought this book was okay. This is the first I've enjoyed in a while by this author. It moved at a good pace, even though it did get kind of flat at the end, which could have been much better. It's not his best, but I did enjoy. Hopefully the follow-up will be much better.
Rating: Summary: Not One of Patterson's Best Review: I have always been a fan of James Patterson's books. I have read several and found them to be fast paced, an easy read, and thrilling with great character development. However, his latest book came as a bit disappointing. When I began reading the book, I couldn't put it down. As I approached the end of the story I was hoping for a big climax and dramatic ending, but what I got was disappointment. Although I completely understand Patterson's reasoning for this abrupt ending, as I'm sure it leaves room for another book to follow, but I can't help feeling cheated. Also, I felt Patterson could have allowed more story time for the "Mastermind" character. He was a very intriguing character, but when his identity was finally revealed, I was left frustrated and let down. Please don't misinterrupt my review, I'm not giving this book a bad rating. This book kept my interest the whole way through. I am sure one will find this story line enjoyable, however, I wouldn't say it was one of his best.
